My wish "IT WAS THOSE DAYS WHEN MAHA PERIYAWAL USED TO URGE BRAHMINS TO DO TRIKALA SANDHYAVANDHANAM. THOSE DAYS HAVE GONE IT HAS FOUND ITS WAY IN DUMB EARS. IT IS EVEN WORSE NOW WE HAVE TO SEARCH FOR A BRAHMIN WHO DOES'NT EAT EGG. THIS SHOULD BE THE CAMPAIGN NOW"

Namaste all!

My name is Das, and I am a young Tamil Brahmin male who is interested in the preservation and welfare of Tamil Brahmins as a whole.

I hope to contribute whatever I know, as little as it may be, to the discussions here, alongside increasing and expanding my knowledge on our community. I am specifically interested in expanding my knowledge on rituals, mythology and history, and yes, in that order.

If you ever happen to somewhat sense the immaturity in my posts, all I request you to do is to bear with me, as I am only learning day by day.

Om Namo Narayanaya!

Regards,
Das

It is really nice to note the level of interest you are taking to keep the members more active.. I am from bangalore and stay in c. v. raman nagar and would like to know of any religious happenings in the city. Recently Sri.Vittaldas Maharaj was in the city and we enjoyed Namaa dhaara .
Also in this regard i would like to make a request in this forum. we are planning to visit govindapuram for ashada ekadeshi and if somebody can suggest any decent hotel for us to stay in kumbokanam and plan to visit temples aroundit would be of great help.
Thanks in advance.

Dear Sashikalaji
You might perhaps consider Hotel Rayaas and Hotel Rayaas Annexe (the later one is more expensive but would suit a family all are air conditioned) at Kumbakonam as we had stayed in the Rayaas annexe and found it very comfortable and convenient. You might perhaps get the address and telephone number from the internet. Prior booking is necessary.

My Remembrances- The Original Kochi

I just saw a detailed article in the 'Mathurbhoomi' Sunday edition. It was about Fort Kochin. Its hoary past. Its old buildings. Its queer architecture. The old Road names. Alleyes in a state of excellent preservation. Koder's pink house, which is a heritage marvel. The delapidated Fort, whose ruins are deep in the Arabian Sea. The point of connection of Vembanad Lake with Arabian Sea, and the slit opening which made Sir Robert Bristow to create India's one of the best natural Harbours. Sir Robert Bristow stayed at Fort Kochi. Aspinwall, Pierce Leslie, HE Day, Gorden Woodraff, Harisson Crossfield, Mathewson bosanquet, etc were British Companies, where Indians worked. And if you look at the number of Stenographers which were a legion then, you will find Thekkamadam mamas, Vedakkamadam mamas going towards British Kochi on a bycycle. Jesudas's house is seen in Kunnimpuram, and next to his house at an angle is the Government Hospital. The beuatiful Parade Maiden surrounded on four sides by Roads, and Flame of the Forests in full bloom resembling an English county, was a ground where many Cricket matches were held. We organized the Shashtri Memorial Trophy Cricket Tourney here between 1966-69. St Francis Church covers one of the sides of Parade Maidan. The famous navigator Vascoda Gama died here and was interned here. There is a centoph showing the correct spot where he was buried. There is St Marys Convent girls High School and St John de Britto School, and RDO's bunglow. Kochi, where Tamil brahmins from Palaghat and Thanjur came settled here on the dawn of the 20th century. Thekkamadam, you can see cluster houses; Vadakkemadam too, you can see 100% Brahmin population behind Rama Bai Bhat's dispensary. The Mattancherry Bazar, is an old town replacing a European Bazar. It also symbolizes the old Arab type mansions. Just behin these mansions, is the Vembanand lake. Oh Kochi history. Always delightful to hear. To remember. :clock:

intro

I'm Kathie in New England, USA. Not a Brahmin, but learning more & more about Indian culture since about '76, and visited 12 times all over India looking for nearly forgotten tirtham & beautiful murthis. Please don't drum me out of the corps.
I'm a member of Ponniyinselvan, and someone [can't remember which member] recommended your website. I'll be really interested to read comments on Murthis and Puranas.
I've got lots of photos from all over Bharata on Picasa.com under 'injamaven', if you want to look.
Thanks for accepting me.
