Most of the Hindu temples in North America have Shiva, Vishnu, Devi, ganesh, mahavir jain, Iyyappa, and some I do not even understand.

So what? They want it that way. but should not insist that all temples in USA must follow what they have done. If some temples allow patrons to enter with shoes on that is their rule and others must not complain.

Our dharma permits building of temples for various gods by various sections of people and does not force that everybody becomes ford model T. The wish of some to put all in one vessel and make a 'jail kaLi' will not work.

As usual you do not, what it takes to understand a post. My post was a statement of facts. It did not direct other temples to be built that way.
You have blinders, when you read my post. I do not like your brand of ignorance or Jan sang. If you can not understand my post then leave it alone. I never said how others should build their temple.

So please read the post and get someone else to explain it, or give it a pass.

If the pious lady does not allow her unbathed children to touch her before she finishes her morning rituals, it is not untouchability.

OMG! Even an insane mother will never consider her unbathed child/children impure!

Only a cruel Obsessive Compulsive Disorder God will expect such crazy "cleanliness".

As far as I know the Hindu concept of God is not a cruel or jealous or any angry one or even with OCD!LOL

......... It all connection and money that speaks loudly than any prescribed rules.
Yes Sir!

It is ''Show me the man; I will show you the rule!''

You might not have read my Tamil write-ups. One is about how we get Dharshan at Tirumala. The gist is this:

A man who visits the temple for the first time was amazed to see many types of long Qs in the complex and questions....

'What is this Q?'

'It is dharma dharshan Q and it will take three days to have dharshan of the Lord!'

'What is that Q?'

'It is 100 rupees Q and will take 24 hours for the dharshan.'

'What is the third one?'

'It is 500 rupees Q and will take 5 hours for the dharshan.'

This went on..........

Finally that man asked, 'If I give one crore rupees........?'

OMG! Please wait........ Lord Balaji will appear right in front of you!

Note: This is just written in lighter vein and no offense meant what so ever!!

Let me add RR ji,

Then the man asked"What if I pay 10 Crores?"

Then Lord Vaagmi ji will appear in front of you!

Moral of the story :God costs less than his Bhakta becos a true Bhakta is such a rarity!

Jai Vaagmi Ji!

For you, the highest bid is Rs.10 Cr. for a Bhakta.

In reality, it has no value at all since you cannot fix it. What is the value for Bhaktas like Nandanar and Kannappa Nainar? Further, qualification, degrees, USA job etc. are not essentially a criteria. It is only perfect devotion to God and not surrender, surranogathy or fear.

Some Punjabis I know worship money (dollar bills arranged in the altar) during their version of Lakshmi Puja.
So Lord Balaji just came to greet his wife Lakshmi presented in the form of crores of Rupees :-)

Accounting for inflation the story has to be changed to make it 100000 crores ....

You havent heard the full story yet.

The priceless Bhakta slot is reserved for you!

Jai Chandru Ji!

You are trying to measure an unknown entity with your inadequate yardsticks. I am a crorepathy and crores do not impress me any more. I ask you how dare you underestimate me so badly. Try to get realistic. LOL.

Dear TKS Sir,

On the Malayalam New year day, we arrange (my ancestors are Kerala smarthAs) rice, nava dhanyam, varieties of fruits

and vegetable and a plate containing gold coins, silver coins, rupee notes in various denominations and new coins as

'Vishu kaNi'. We get up very early and see the kaNi. After bath and poojA, the elders give the younger ones, coins as gift.

And.... I totally forgot about the inflation! Your 'amendment' is right! :)

And.... I totally forgot about the inflation! Your 'amendment' is right!

Not necessary. In the olden days before the term and practice of moi ezhuthutal, for sambahvanai, it is always aayiram katti varahan, even if the amount is a small - one rupee coin.

Our sAsthrigaL is more generous!
He says, 'padhinAyiram katti varAhan!'

Of late, Brahmins are scared of a Debate. Without a Debate, you cannot bring out the good and bad.

Shankara became Shankaracharya only because he won a debate establishing his Advaitha philosophy.

Similarly, Ramanuja and Madhwa established their views only thru Debate.
.......
I guess the next in this list might be Chandru Ji ! :thumb:

I think Chanduji is a mixed up person unable to distinguish between a street brawl and debate.

Sometimes good also come out of street confrontations with iyengars.

we might get an iyengar convert after a ' debate'

It IS untouchability but restricted to time!

In my extended family, the old lady of the house will make all the tiny tots roam around without dress, if one of the ladies in

that house has her monthly 'leave'! With great difficulty, a request was made to allow to clad the tiny tots in polyester dress

and reluctantly she agreed. :dizzy:

OMG! Even an insane mother will never consider her unbathed child/children impure!......
Dear Renu,

Let me tell you one funny incident! I happened to visit an 'orthodox to the core' house and a teenager was on her monthly 'leave'.

She was given a separate thin bed, used for those days and had to sleep in a room, alone. I pitied her plight and hence offered to

sleep next to her! The next day was the day of 'bath'; so this girl got up very early in the morning, had her head bath and washed

her clothes too! When I got up around 6 a.m, the girl coolly told me NOT to touch her before my head bath, because I had theettu !!

Sir,

I am happy ................

1. I will definitely prefer Muslim or Christian name the day your entire family becomes a staunch Saivite, praising only Lord Shiva instead of Vishnu. But you cannot escape from a situation that warrants you to name your children Obama Vaagmi or Mariam Vaagmi. I wish you don't come across such a situation, and maintain your loyalty only to Jeers, instead of Mecca or Vatican or Caterbury (if the situation warrants to become Protestant).

2. What is the role of Acharya. He should not allow short cut methods and wear pattai namam by those who are not supposed to. Why didn't he stop non-DASANU DASARAS to have easy darshan and laddu, by wearing pattai namam. The Acharya should guide the devotees properly, irrespective castes and identity. It shows that he is not a 'ACHARAMANA ACHARYA', but 'INCONSISTENT ACHARYA'.

Chandruji,

1. Don't have to worry. I chase money in India. I do not chase it elsewhere because there is enough here to chase and grab, and I am adequately equipped to do that. So the chances of my children coming in contact with an alien value system right at an impressionable age and marrying all those people you have mentioned is zero. And in India they get their values from me, their mother and their friends who are from similar background as they are. They know what they want and what is good for them.

2. In this case the Acharya, may not even be aware of what is going on. You can not expect him to leave his daily aradhana, come to the entrance of the temple, grab the Naamakkatti and Sri Churnam from the hands of the fake Iyengar and hand him over to police. He certainly guides his sishyas properly. The other fakes/imposters joining in is beyond his control. It is actually the morning Saththumarai time and the devotees who go in through that route join the Sathumarai ghoshti who chants the Sathumarai pasurams in Tamil before the Lord. A few fakes joining the group and blinking there not knowing what is being chanted is something not avoidable considering the nature of the Indian milieu which congregates there. I can write more about other acharyas and their thiruvilaiyadalkal here but I do not want to.

On plain facts as they are presented here by you there is nothing funny about it. It appears you were at the height of a condescending mood when you got up in the morning. Theettu is contageous as per the belief of Hindus. That is why the two kinds of theettu like Vritti (பிறப்புத்தீட்டு) and kshayam (இறப்புத்தீட்டு) are treated as contageous and people observe necessary precautions not to migle with others voluntarily. Similarly this theettu also is considered contageous. When you gave company to that girl in the night you were in proximity and perhaps contact with that girl and so you too were polluted by the theettu. After morning bath the girl is free from pollution whereas you continue to be with your acquired pollution until you too take bath. What is funny in this?

I am not going into whether the theettu concept is correct or not, whether it is truly contagious or not, whether it gets removed with a head bath or not etc.,

This is just to point out the flaw in your innocent wonderment. There is nothing to exclaim about or laugh at.

She at least followed the rules, at least some rules!

It is not fair to say a debate with an Iyengar is a street confrontation. I think it is not so.

At the same time, the other way is also possible. Such a debate may also create a situation that all Iyengars may become committed Shiva Bhakthas.

Was it jeer sathumurai sevai? I thought only vishnavite males join the sevai.
This excerpt is from one veshadari, in his own words.

"This is what we did

a) Took bath and sported veshti and mel thundu (uthriyam)

b) Prominent namam (Vadakalai or Thengalai, both are ok i guess)

c) Poonool is a must

d) Have to shave off all facial hair or have both moustache and beard ; only moustache or only beard not allowed

e) Shave off an inch above the ear all through the sides

f) Shave off sidelock / sideburns

Hit the queue at around 6.30 am and i guess you should be easily part of the jeeyar's entourge."

Better to leave it to devout vaishnavites.

Nowadays, the jeeyar asks questions, it seems, to weed out the non-iyengars... so much so that even iyengars who do not properly know thaniyan, or any other relevant info, are reluctant to go with the seva.

Then once inside, they have to sing the saatrumurai, with the dips and drags intact... at least they have to lip-synch...

Sir.

What is the relationship between chasing money and becoming Osama Vaagmi (wrongly mentioned as Obama) and Mariam Vaagmi. I appreciate your alertness but slight deviation may change the situation. Be aware.

So, it seems that the head is not responsible but the tail plays the spoilsport.

The Madam who narrated the incident may please note the term 'A FEW FAKES JOINING THE GROUP'.

Why are you scared of writing the Thiruvilaiyadalkal of other acharyas, whatever may be the caste. I always have firm faith only God should be given utmost reverence. If a human commits a mistake, irrespective his/her position, he/she has to face the song. So, don't feel shy and narrate the epic. Let us enjoy, as we enjoy Krishna Leela.
