U.S. investigators suspect that Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 stayed in the air for up to four hours past the time it reached its last confirmed location, based on analysis of signals sent by the Boeing 777's satellite-communication link designed to automatically transmit the status of certain onboard systems to the ground.

Throughout the roughly four hours after the jet dropped from civilian radar screens, these people said, the link operated in a kind of standby mode and sought to establish contact with a satellite or satellites. These transmissions did not include data, but the periodic contacts indicate to investigators that the plane was still intact and believed to be flying. The transmissions were comparable to the plane "saying I'm here, I'm ready to send data."

U.S. counterterrorism officials are pursuing the possibility that a pilot or someone else on board the plane may have diverted it toward an undisclosed location after intentionally turning off the jetliner's transponders to avoid radar detection.

A total flight time of five hours after departing Kuala Lumpur means the Boeing 777 could have continued for an additional distance of about 2,200 nautical miles, reaching points as far as the Indian Ocean, the border of Pakistan or even the Arabian Sea, based on the jet's cruising speed.

I dont know why..but I feel the authorities should start looking right up to some unknown islands which lie between Sulawesi and North of Papua New Guinea.

With 5 hours of travel..the plane could have reached there.

It is said that the transponder was manually turned off. One reason could be it became faulty and the other could be, it was deliberately turned off with the intention of stopping the signals from being transmitted. The former seems not to be likely because if it was for the reason it became faulty, the most likely event that would have ensued is that the plane crashed and so the plane debris and the blackbox should have been found by now.

However bizarre it might seem, the less complicated explanation is that some one deliberately turned it off. In my view it could not have been the crew on their own but under the duress of someone.

Those who could have forced the crew to turn it off, might be terrorists or, hold your breath, some alien being. If it had been terrorists I think we would heard something from them by now. That leaves the bizarre possibility that it was indeed some alien being that did it.

One more thing that could have happened is another bizarre possibility that there was a wormhole in space that could have teleported the plane to a different location instantly. Whether that is within the earth or some other place is not possible to say. The alien theory and the wormhole theory could both have been together possible.

Each passing day adds more mystery to the incident.

Malaysia is immature in it's response. China's silence is mysterious. And for the US, any disappearance is a "terrorism" incident. Coming to think of it, 9/11 was not as bad as they wanted the world to believe. In Baghdad alone, 7000 people were killed last Ramadan. Egypt, Syria, Palestine..monumental tragedies which dwarf 9/11. Whenever I enter Penn station, they give dire warnings like "see something, say something" and color-coded alerts. It is sad that we are still not able to shake off 9/11 and using these great tragedies to keep the memory of 9/11 fresh forever.

4 hrs in each direction. Maybe that's why they want India's help to search the Andaman Sea (Bay of Bengal) in the western direction. And 4 hrs south of Malaysia will be very difficult to search. The plan would have edged closer to Antarctica due South.

I get a gut feeling the plane did not crash but hijacked and landed in lesser known Island in between Sulawesi and North of Papua New Guinea....this area does come under the present 4 hours radius direction.

Search should start there too.

Needle in a haystack! China has already suppressed freedoms in its Uyghur area of Xinjiang. Because of a lone Uyghur passenger, it wants to use this incident to further suppress freedoms. There's a chance that passenger was completely innocent and just a normal traveler.

I got a question here...since many believe astrology can predict events..is anyone willing to check the horoscope of anyone random person on board to see if their horoscope shows that they are alive or dead at this present moment.

I know this sounds bizarre but an astrologer is supposedly able to tell from a horoscope if a person is alive or dead.

So wont that at least give a chance to know if the plane crashed?(if astrology is true)

May be one of the Indian families with relatives on board should try this..give the person's horoscope and try to find out from horoscope if the person is alive or dead.

I might sound insensitive here but its worth a try.

Why dont any astrologer from India offer this service free of charge.

But right now the plane should have run out of fuel..so technically not possible to be air borne anymore..so horoscope should be able to tell isnt it?
