1. In THAT house the maid is the only dame as well as mad(d)ame.
So the gents are afraid of her thinking
"What will happen if she quits...???!!!!'

So the freedom to take leave and the royal treatment on the days she turns up for work.

But an old wife can't quit! Right? :pout:

2. THAT mother was a lucky woman who had had FANFARE all her life - though she hardly knew anything other than cooking food!

3. I had no idea that you belonged to the :ear: category!

But you have matched perfectly the volume of the sound by the size of your alphabets!
:becky:

How did you find out so accurately??? :clap2:

Because you KNOW the story or

just by observation and inference???

1. Why does the man who is afraid to take to task the paid-maid-servant (who bunks one out of three

days from work) riddles his legally-wedded old-wife with questions as to why the lunch/ dinner got

delayed by fifteen minutes???

Ans: Paid maid will leave the house!! :bolt:

2.Why the straw lifted by a man's mother appears to be a Himalayan task while the Himalayan tasks

performed by his wife appear to be lifting a straw???

Ans: Wife does NOT get old in his POV!!

3. Why do deaf men always shout??? Is it really because they do not know what they are talking -

since they can't hear themselves????

Ans: They shout to be heard by themselves and become more deaf!! :drum:

A primrose by a river's brim
a yellow primrose was to him
And it was nothing more. :bored:

But who is He, with modest looks,
And dressed in homely russet brown?
He murmurs near the running brooks
a music sweeter than their own. :ear:

# 11. Old is Gold!

In olden times it was customary to drink castor oil once a month and keep the stomach in good working order. It had a repulsive smell but we just had to drink it.

No food on that day. Only hot jeeraa rasam ( made without tur dal) until the stomach got cleared.

The body became light afterwards. The stomach could get rid of everything it need not store. The intestines got a brief resting period.

I used to give a tiny drop of castor oil even to my sons when they were very young. A stainless spoon was preheated and a little oil poured on it . This made the oil lighter and easier to swallow for the babies.

I would add a trace of powder glucose to beat the bitter taste and feed the baby. It helped them a lot. No colic pain and no constipations.

Now the stomach is never allowed to take a day off.
Result... We have become what we are now!

Castor Oil Cleansing:

Castor oil works like fiber in the food. Drinking castor oil early in the morning induces the gall bladder to pour the bile into the stomach. (Early morning bile flow is heavier than at any other time) and also the stomach and intestines are empty to be cleaned.

When hot water is sipped it causes mucus to be secreted which forces movement of bile and castor oil mixture to move down to the intestine. Bile and oil forms detergent (SOAP). A cleaning detergent is basically oil that is bonded to salt. Here castor oil forms a chemical complex with bile salts and forms a cleansing detergent.

Sipping water makes a typical "HOT WASH". This really cleans the stomach and intestines and also gets rid of the toxins that come through the bile. Thus this is a powerful way of detoxification. Thanks to Ayurvedic masters who have understood the detoxification process and the physiology of the body so perfectly.

Advantages of the Cleanse:

  • Some people tend to reduce body weight considerably within a few days after the cleanse.
  • By experience we have seen a reduction in the size of belly (tummy) within a few days.
  • Do this before pregnancy but after pregnancy do not do this because it might cause abortion.
  • It cleanses the intestines and also the liver.
  • It eliminates some parasites too.
  • It keeps you healthy.

The king and the grandma.

The King of a country had an emergency to tackle with. He raised a donation from the general public. Each one was asked to donate as much as he /she could! Money started pouring in.

An old woman who made a living by selling leafy vegetables donated four annas. The man collecting the money got wild and started scolding he for the paltry donation.

The king happened to be sitting near by and told the man in charge of the collection.

"I feel this is the best and most cherished donation. She had earned just four annas during the day and gave it away. She has go hungry till tomorrow evening.

Rich men parting with a heavy sum of money is nothing compared to this whole hearted donation by this old woman, sacrificing her own needs for the entire day."

The money-collector hung his head in shame for his thoughtlessness.

ASWAMEDA YAAGAM.

7.jpeg

After the MahAbhAratha yudhdham, the PAndavAs performed an aswamEdha yAgam on a lavish scale. Everyone invited for the yAgam was praising it sky high.

They all were startled by the teasing loud laughter of a strange mongoose which was standing in the yAgasAlA.One half of its body was golden and the other normal. The mongoose spoke in a human voice!

“So you are congratulating the PAndavAs for the success of this yAgam. But I can tell you this is nothing in comparison to the dhAnam of one measure of flour given by a brahmin family in KurukshEtrA.

The head of the family was a poor uncha vruththi brahmin who lived with his wife, one son and his daughter in law. They used to pick the fallen grains from the fields, pound them to flour and share it equally for their single meal of the day. If they can’t find any thing, they just starve.

One day just as they sat down to share the measure of flour, there came a poor brahmin, hungry and tired. The head of the household offered him his share of the flour.

The guest was still hungry. Thereafter the wife, the son and the daughter in law also offered their shares of the flour.

A miracle happened then! Flowers rained from the sky and a golden vimAnam came down to take the family to Heaven. I rolled on the flour spilled on the ground and one half of my body became golden.

I am visiting every yAgasAlA ever since then, with the hope of making the other half of my body also golden-but in vain. Nothing has equaled the gift of the measure of flour by that family”

The crowd stood aghast. Gift is not a matter of the cost price, it is a matter of the attitude. A piece of charcoal presented with love and kindness is more precious than a diamond given with hatred and grudge.

From a mail forwarded by my elder sister.

Excellence...

A German once visited a temple under construction where he saw a sculptor making an idol of God. Suddenly he noticed a similar idol lying nearby.

Surprised, he asked the sculptor, "Do you need two statues of the same idol?" "No," said the sculptor without looking up, "We need only one, but the first one got damaged at the last stage."

The gentleman examined the idol and found no apparent damage. "Where is the damage?" he asked. "There is a scratch on the nose of the idol." said the sculptor, still busy with his work. "Where are you going to install the idol?"

The sculptor replied that it would be installed on a pillar twenty feet high. "If the idol is that far, who is going to know that there is a scratch on the nose?" the gentleman asked.

The sculptor stopped his work, looked up at the gentleman, smiled and said, "I will know it."

Our dear Sis gives a lot of material for our posts.......

I wrote a Tamil write-up in the literature section (ENNa alaigaL) with this incident as the base! :typing:

Dear Mrs. Visalakshi Ramani,

True. It is what is called " excellence".
That reminds me of an incident happened in my life long back. We consolidated and finalised the accounts of our Company by working continuously day and night under my supervision . But when we arrived at the Balance Sheet, we found a difference of .02 (Two paise). My boss told me "just adjust the difference and finalise the accounts, after all who is going to care when we are giving the figures rounded off to the Rupees only". But my mind refused to accept the suggestion since I know there is a difference of 0.02 paise in my work. I continued the work, rechecked and found the difference to my relief and satisfaction. Similar things might have happened in the life of many who are perfectionists.

Interestingly Dr.Chokkalingam, eminent cardiologist who comes every Monday on TV, cautions that perfectionists are prone to cardiac problems because of the tension that they have to undergo.

Brahmanyan,

Dear Sri KB,
Your post # 1822. thank you for the hint.
I found out, you can assume any 3 digits and discover the 4th from the equation.
e.g.,1,3,4
1+3+4+x = 1*3*4*x = 12x
8+x = 12x
so, x = 8/11
so 1+3+4+8/11 = 1*3*4*8/11 = 96/11

Dear ozone,

You are absolutely correct.

Because there is only one equation to be satisfied, only one degree of freedom is required. So one can choose any value for three of the variables and solve for the fourth.

RR's observation is also correct except the condition to be avoided is that the product of the first three variables must not be equal to 1.

Dear Brahmanyan Sir,

You remind me of my write-up which appeared in the thread "IlakkaNamE pO! Pudhuk kavithaiyE vA!" in the literature section.

For easy reference:

எங்கே இரண்டு ரூபாய்?

ஒரு வாரம்

விடுமுறையில் செல்ல,

மறுநாள் கணக்கில்

ஒரு புத்திசாலி

முடிவில் கண்டார்

Dear Sir!
Namaste! :pray2:

Aiming at perfection is good. :laser:

But arriving at it very demanding.

Even the ten-in-one Leonardo Da Vinci was not

completely satisfied with his work. :pout:

So where do common people like most of us stand???

WOW! Really amazing! :clap2:

I was trying to 'create' solutions but was not lucky this time :)

Are you a maths Professor/ Reader??? :nerd:

Can we extend the problem for more than 4 variables? :bump2:

Is there any limiting value of the number of variables

which can be thus related???

May I know why imposed additional conditions such as

1. a + b = a x b.

2. a + b + c = a x b x c.

I think K B Sir was trying to point out how to extend from two variables to four, for easy understanding.
But till O3 pointed out, I did not guess the easy way to find 'd', given any numbers 'a', 'b' and 'c'! :ranger:

I wrote that we need four equations to solve for four unkowns. So when only one equation was given I should have reversed my direction and inferred that only of the four needs to be a variable. So all the other three can be assumed/ allotted values.
Apparently I am also wise AFTER the event!

# 12. Old is Gold!

Oil bath used to be a regular weekly affair. There is proverb which says "Sani neeraadu". The ladies had oil bath on Fridays and the gents on Saturdays. There were many diet restrictions and Dos and Don't to be followed on the oil bath day.

The skin got its nourishment, the joints got their lubricating agent and the body as well as the mind relaxed fully. Rich men could afford professional people to massage the oil before their bath.

Now a days people do not even apply oil on their hair. It is "No No!" but I fail to understand "Why?". Even my sons living in the dry and hot regions have given up the use of hair oil completely. I myself feel as if my head is radiating heat if I do not apply oil for a single day.

The moisturizing and rejuvenating properties of oils are therapeutic and therefore Oil bath is an age old tradition for body and health care, especially in southern parts of Asia.

It is believed that the oils penetrate deep into the skin to repair and provide rejuvenation. Here are some of the other common benefits.

Prevention Against Cancer

Though there is no substantial research to back this claim, it has been observed that regular oil baths can help protect your skin against cancer. Oil baths help you build a stronger immunity to viral and bacterial infections, skin conditions and even infections of the liver.

Improvement of Blood Circulation

The ingredients of most bath oils are intrinsically warm. When you use these oil baths, your skin becomes warm and the blood vessels underneath it become dilated. This improves blood circulation to the entire body.

This reduces fatigue and stiffness of joints. With increased blood circulation, you will also have increased range of motion in swollen joints. This can be beneficial for rheumatoid arthritis, as well as any condition which causes internal inflammation.

Health and Glowing Skin

Since the bath oils are directly in contact with your skin, their biggest benefit is to the skin. The skin becomes healthy and glowing. Your skin also remains supple and younger for a longer time.

The collagen in the skin remains healthy and the skin remains suppler for a longer time. This reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Postpartum Care

Once you have had a baby, the benefits of oil bath for you can be many. Post delivery, regular oil baths can help you gain strength. It can also help your uterus shrink back to its normal size much faster. For at least fifteen days after the delivery, the new mother should be given oil baths to bring her strength back.

How on earth can 1 out of 21534 members can make all

"important heads" quit??? :bolt:
Their scheme backfired! :boom:

They lost their case and were shown their right place. :tape:

It was too much to them since they thought the forum will

collapse without their valuable (voluminous) contribution.

It was also proved to be wrong! :nono:

They have no face to show to the rest of the people.

So they disappeared quietly - in case they have really done so.
