Fear Forgotten
Thursday October 17, 2013

Just say "Yes" to God...Yes O Lord that You shall love me...protect me...save me...keep me upon Your lap... Say "Yes" once... and then never turn your head again and fear the conviction with which you said "Yes" to God...
The love of God can never fail you... Never! But the fear of the failure can bring untold moments of misery...

Denying the God within you...above you...below you...around you is the greatest mistake the human mind makes and brings before one's own self the punishment of enduring and defending the panic of underlying fears...

There are no "ifs"' and "buts" in the world of God. There is faith...and then of course there is the miracle of peace...

The coward mind hold on to the doubts...The intellect holds on to the "Why" and the heart holds on to the "Yes"...the "Yes" to God...

Realize that God is within you and then there is instant peace...

You shall lose your peace if you deny even for a moment that God resides in your self...your spirit...your breath. If you deny that life becomes a burden of fears...

God does not need to prove anything to you...for you already love Him even if you know it not...

The perfection of life that you paint is only a mirage...Life is perfect when there is nothing to chase...it is perfect when you realize that the entire world is a part of your own being...

To realize the truth of an Advent (Avatar), the aspirant must culture the mind as the farmer prepares the field. The farmer clears thorny undergrowth, wild creepers and tenuous roots from the field. Then, he ploughs the land, waters it and the seeds are sown. The seedlings and tender plants are then guarded from pests. To prevent destructions by goats and cattle, he erects a fence. So too, the aspirant must remove egoism, pride and greed from the heart. Truth, Repetition of the Lord’s Name and Meditation refer to ploughing and levelling. Love is the water that must flow into the field of your heart to make it fertile, soft and rich. Lord’s Name is the seed and devotion is the sprout. Protect the seeds from the cattle of Kama and Krodha (desire and anger) with the fence of discipline. Then you will reap bliss as the harvest.

Sometimes the cloud of envy and hatred come to darken relationships. This is primarily due to fear; fear that causes anger. The emergence of devotion, and the humility and wisdom resulting from it, will make fear and anger disappear. Anger wastes health, time and character. Never allow it to have a free play. Just like you cultivate the field, you must cultivate the fields of feelings, motives, desires and promptings. People are often ruined because they cannot tolerate the prosperity of another. Most people are bent on pulling down another. Jealousy is the chief cause of ruin and it is born due to the undue importance attached to the body, the senses and the accumulation of objects that cater to the senses. Develop the spirit of mutual help. See things in proper perspective; give everything its worth and no more.

- Divine Discourse, Sep 9, 1959.

Anger, hatred, jealousy is not a rare emotion. Many have these virtues
and feel it now and then in one's life. Anger, hatred, jealousy can bring
down or even pull apart a relationship. Rather, it is a signal that it is time
for a person to change his/her virtues. Only a few realize that anger
and hatred is a destructive force which is against patience and forbearance.
If one wants to reach a higher level in his/her spiritual life, one has to
eliminate certain pursuits and attachments. One may feel the pleasures
and happiness in life. But then, body is not a vehicle to such things.
One should not practice virtues for one's own self benefit. One has to
have or possess moral integrity which is very essential in one's life with
simplicity. One has to eliminate totally hatred, jealousy and violence from
one's mind and heart. There is no wonder that, at times, in one's day to
day life, one may feel angry with somebody for something. But one should
not allow this feeling to rest in the mind or heart. One should immediately
curb it instantly or at the very moment, when it arises or develops. One
should not speak harsh against anyone. Because it results in retaliation
and in the process one may exchange angry words leading to hurting others
feelings and may finally end in clashes. One has to develop a spirit of
mutual help as Baba says.

You will have faith in God when you have yourself discovered that this Universe must have a Creator and Protector who runs the show. To firmly grasp that idea, your heart must be very pure, your mind must be clear. To achieve this, performing your ordained duties (karma) sincerely is very essential. The scriptures delve in a detailed manner the methods to perform one’s duties. Of the hundred parts in the Vedas, 80 are for Duty (Karma), 16 for Worship (Upasana) and four for Wisdom (Jnana). Wisdom is the final destination in the journey. Karma has to be done in order to educate the impulses and train your feelings. Then you develop the attitude of upasana, of humility before the great Unknown, and finally, you realise that the only reality is you, which is the same as He.

- Divine Discourse, Nov 23, 1964.

One has to develop a method of regular Upasana or worship
drawing the attention of the deity through meditation as
laid down in our Vedic books. Meditational procedures can be
learnt through a Guru, which are available in our purnas. Normally,
a devotee, unless he or she is trained, would not be able to
lay the hand on the scriptures to know thoroughly the prescribed
method of worship. One can pray daily either the Kula Devatha
or the Ishta Devatha according to one's own choice and follow
it regularly. There is a saying that by mere reading one would
not get the awareness of inner conscious unless one practices
the methods regularly through Upasana with full dedication of
selfless devotion. One must have spiritual thirst and do practices
daily through meditation or kirtan/namasangeerthanam, puja etc.
by offering flowers, neivedhyam etc to an image of his/her choice
which is known as saguna upasana or one can follow the other method
which is initially very difficult, i.e. holding the visual image in front of
one's eye and chant mantras internally through meditation/dhyanam
and do the offerings which is otherwise known nirguna upasana. However,
one should start with saguna upasana to reach the next level. But all
this can be attained only through systematic regular sincere practices.

The Precious Moment

Whenever you are agitated or upset begin to observe yourself. Observe the train of thoughts that have filled your mind moments ago. Observe your reaction them. Observe how many of those thoughts became real to you. Observe how you reacted to them internally. Observe how you brought the internal reaction to the external environment. Observe how many people you transferred your agitation to. Observe how many people you blamed for your own thinking. Observe how you feel their pain, and now retreat to observe your thought that was needless…

Instead of going through a process of pain, first observe the thoughts that disturb you. Instead of waiting for the fears to grow subject the fears to truth. Turn the mind immediately inward. Think of one good moment you had with your loved one. Even if the fears keep persisting, you too must persist for the mind to think and remember that special moment.

Turn to love you felt and fill yourself with it. Smile and say to yourself that another special moment is close to you… you can bring it to you if you connect with the love you feel. Look at the picture of the loved one that pleases you. Smile and wish for that same peace to enter you. Soon the agitation will begin to lessen… your unreal expectations will begin to fade…

Your desire to be happy will turn to your faith that you can be happy if you are patient… your ambition to turn moments your way will turn toward accepting moment to moment with the peace of pure love.

Always remember that the precious moments that come to you in life were unexpected. You had not desired the moments. They came to you with God’s grace and God’s will. That is why they are so precious to you.

The moments you have planned and even received will never be a source of peace to you. Even though you were successful in receiving what you wanted they are a source of fear to you.

The present moment holds in it the gifts of the precious moments to come. Give yourself to that present moment. Be at peace… Connect yourself to pure love… Remain still in that and the moment to come shall shower you with Divine Grace. Keep within your mind only the thought that keeps you confident. A thought that makes you feel weak and desperate must be ignored.

Do not subject yourself and your life to what you think. As long as you are bound to desire the ups and downs will emerge and become real to you. But if you are committed to being at peace then you will do your very best moment to moment and whatever is the outcome you will accept and eagerly return to the peace of your soul.

The precious moment that came to you was only because you were content in yourself and expected nothing. You had given up your thought for a moment and the simple gifts of the soul came to you. A genuine smile never comes when you have planned what makes you happy. It comes when you are relaxed in faith… content in God’s will and simple in your thought. Many such precious moments await you… But you too must wait and not try to go ahead to capture them. They will come… at the precise moment, and you shall marvel at their timeliness…

There are greater things in life that grant joy and peace – try to get a hold of them. Each and every one of you have earned the right to live in joy and possess these greater things – no one can take these away from your grasp. Fix your attention on the eternal values, and then you will not be swept off your feet by gusts of passion or fits of fury. In the past, sages and saints controlled the vagaries of their minds and dwelt in peace and bliss. You too must ensure that the temple of the Lord in your innermost heart is not overwhelmed by the sands of lust and anger (Kama and Krodha). When all live in this manner, the community will become an ideal one.

Sometimes one may find very difficult or a strenuous exercise
to do the right thing against his/her own conscious by holding
the temptations. But one may have to try to resist selfish
feelings or emotions from doing wrong things. Good self-control
exercises would resist the inner desires from practicing poor
self-control. Normally people commit untruthful things just like
errand persons spending majority of the time in looking for bad
things or deeds or spending time on the past and future rather
than the present. Possessing the habit of bad preoccupation is
not a good virtue and it is absolutely vulnerable to withstand
against the swirling winds of the preoccupied mind which is completely
or absolutely polluted with bad things. All of us know the story
of King Harishchandra who never lied in his life. Though he
was a ruler of Ayodhya, because of his wise, intelligence and
truth, his citizens were always happy and Ayodhya became
prosporous. He was a person of truthfulness and he is still an
example in our history. Though the God decided to test him,
he never gave way to it and maintained truth as his breath
till his death.

Always remember that only those with ideals are respected and remembered with gratitude for posterity. We honour Rama and worship him, while avoiding the reference of Ravana on auspicious occasions. Why? Because of the character they displayed. So you must be determined and advance step by step in building a strong character. Be aware of the danger of slipping down two steps while ascending one – you can resist the slide downwards! If you have the determination to climb and the yearning to rise, progress and conquer your lower impulses and instincts, then the hidden spring of power will surge up within you. The Grace of the Lord will smoothen your path. Keep the ideal before you and march onward!

One has to attain vivekam in life at some stage or the other so as to have a
discriminatory knowledge. Normally people, develops a sense of self-depreciation
in life after having lost sufficient time in going after sensory pleasures and
doing its related activities, because of samsara anubavam, when they are able to
get an awareness i.e. nirvedham. If they are unable, then comes virakthi or vairaghyam.
At this stage, one comes to know about the bhakthi because of fear on attaining
the old age. Here comes about chinthanam of bhagawan. One has to chant the
name of Bhagawan always with a vairaghyam and humility and one has to
try to be free from all sensual pleasures and be prepared to do service to the
Supreme Power. Bhakthi and Dhyanam are absolutely essential to be near to the
Supreme Power. We read from our history and scriptures that there were bhakthas
who attained moksham through single-minded bhakthi and Naama Sangeerthanam.
Therefore vairaghyam is essential in every field to attain the desired results
and particularly towards Supreme Power to attain his bliss.

Our life has become a race these days because it is the desire that
drives us towards one another and every one has become a competitor.
Some get a result of undeserved or unmerited favour in the competition.
Everybody is aware that only a few can win and not all the persons,
yet the battle goes on. But then the God's grace is not like that. Who
ever tries and runs towards HIM with sincerity and involvement in the
right path, never gets defeated or not refused the desired bliss. There
are certain things which one can get only with the help of others.
But the devotional race is not like that. One can depend on HIM and win
the race. Once he acknowledges the bhakthi and devotion of the devotee,
HE appreciates and activates him/her to win the race for certain. At the
end, one would feel as to how it is amazing and sweet in one's life.

Importance Of Human Birth

In this wonderful universe,God has created millions (84 lakhs according to Hindu Sastra calculation) of creatures (including Gods, demi-gods , insects, beast, earth and men) inhabiting heaven, hell earth, ocean sky and other intermediate regions .Of these, those, creatures or souls, whose merits preponderate, go to heaven and live there till they enjoy the fruits of their actions and when this is done, they are cast down, while those souls, whose sins or demerits preponderate, go down to hell and suffer the consequences o their misdeeds for as long as they deserve it.When their merits and demerits balance each other, they are born on earth as human beings and are given a chance to work out their salvation.Ultimately, when their merits and demerits both are worked out completely, they get their deliverance and become free. To put the matter in a nutshell, souls get their birth or transmigration according to their deeds and involvement.

Hatred does not exist in God’s nature; He is all mercy and full of love! Lord Krishna proceeded to the Kaurava court, as a messenger of peace, with compromise proposals to show how one should be patient and self-controlled, when provoked and during difficult times. The Lord has no favourites or rivals. Like fire, He spreads warmth to everyone near Him. If you do not feel the warmth, do not blame Him; instead blame yourself that you are far from Him! Hiranyakashipu said, 'He is nowhere' and so, He was nowhere for him; Prahlada asserted 'He is everywhere,' and He appeared from the pillar to prove him true. God did not have to run into the pillar in order to come out of it, to reply to the challenge of the father. He was there all along, just as He is in everything else. He had only to make Himself visible! Take Him as your charioteer. He will steer you through the heaviest odds

Normally, it is said that a person do not have fear, if he has faith and trust in
the Supreme Power at the time of crisis, if any. It means that it refers to
one's attitude towards the Supreme Power. Because one's state of mind
will always determine as to how one should act or perform his/her deed towards
the Supreme Power. Further, attitude is based on what he/she believes and accepts
as true. Suppose, if someone believes that something is healthy and good for
the health, he/she goes in search of that item to various shops for identifying
that product. No matter what is inside, whether it is good or bad. One goes
for that assuming that it will nourish him/her. Here comes the belief that drives
him/her from shop to shop, places to places, etc. No matter what amount of money
he/she spends towards that. Here, the belief guides the deed of that person. Similarly,
if a person has godly fear he/she will soon follow the procedures as laid down in our
Scriptures and begin to attain the wisdom. Generally, it is said that a wise person would
never waste the time to find out the right path and dedicate himself/herself to attain
the bliss of the Supreme Power and become free from all fears of the Universe.
In the process, he/she gains the grace of the Supreme Power, and by his/her deeds,
he/she washes away his/her sins, if any, and try to come out of bad karma. Here again,
he/she is guided by a proper Guru to achieve the salvation by rejecting the ill deeds
or keeping away from ego, self-concentration, etc. by understanding the truth
of the existence of Supreme Power as Almighty, omnipotent God, who is all powerful
than any one.
