Spiritual knowledge enables a person to come out of negative
and ill-effect emotions and feelings besides depression or troubles,
if any. Regular and sincere prayer brings a change in a person
and slowly influences him/her and paves way to develop faith
and trust in the Supreme Power eliminating the negative feelings
or egoism from one's mind and heart. When once a person
develops positive mind towards this concept, he does not worry
about any thing and even forgives mistakes, if any, in a colleague
or friend. First of all, one has to have humility while performing
the prayer. The prayer should not be mainly for a reason or purpose
to achieve than to understand the concept and value of the
spiritual awareness. As the mind's role changes every moment,
once the spiritual awareness is gained, one would be able
control the mind and senses.

Nothing is ever born without the will of God, nothing ever happens without His will. This is the message of the Vedas. Understand the scriptures well and this lesson will be instilled in you. Fleas suck and taste only the blood of the cow, but we draw from her, sweet nourishing milk. So too, you must draw and learn from the scriptures, the potency of the will of the Lord. If fixed in that faith, you will be able to brave all dangers. In Ramayana, not all the stones that Lord Rama stepped on, turned into a human being. Only one stone changed into the form of Ahalya, for repentance and penance had elevated that stone to win the Grace of the Lord. If God is invisible to you, the fault lies within you. You are unable to recognize His various manifestations. You yourself are His very own manifestation. Fix your vision!

Sincere effort of penance/meditation gives a person an opportunity to attain
spiritual effects as it awakens the conscience. Sometimes, one gets deceived
by the pleasures of environment and material benefits not knowing the actual
truth of its longevity. One can notice many manifestations or Avatars of the
Supreme Power in our Scriptures and they are the examples to be learnt by
everyone in life. In fact, it is like a pure mirror to watch the roles and attributes
of various Avatars emphasizing the humanity to learn from it. Various philosophers
explain us now and then about their role in this Universe by quoting examples
from the Scriptures like Ramayana and Mahabharatha, etc. in order to effectively
train the minds of human beings and educate everyone at large. The scriptures do
tell us that how one one should overcome from emotions and bad virtues viz. anger,
jealousy and hatred, etc. Each manifestation of the Supreme Power had given us
an example of different personalities and realities that existed in the Spiritual world
to be watched and sensed by everyone so as to seek/attain divine attributes.

It happened in 1979. One year after arriving in Switzerland, my wife met by chance a Sai devotee in a super market. She recognised my wife as a Sai devotee by seeing Baba’s locket in her chain. She became friendly and later introduced us to another lady devotee, living at a distance of about 30 km from Berne. In a few months time, a housewife of a family living in the same building as ours started showing interest in Baba.
One day my wife and I were going round shopping and found three small photo frames, oval in shape and made of brass. They were of the size 7 x 4 cm and had a little design on them. An idea occurred to my wife that it would be nice to present the three frames with Baba’s pictures to those three ladies on the occasion of Diwali. Incidentally only three of these photo frames were available in that shop. We took the frames home and realized, then only that they were too small to contain any picture of Baba, we had at home, even with necessary alterations.
Around this time, interesting thing used to happen at the dressing table in our home. We kept a bunch of vibhuti packets in one of the drawers of the table. One vibhuti packet used to appear now and then on the top of the dressing table. I would keep it back inside, thinking that my wife might have by mistake kept it on the table. My wife would also notice the same thing from time to time and would keep the packet back inside the drawer supposing that I might have kept it, by mistake, on the table. We came to know from each other of this phenomenon only later.
After having failed to procure picture of Baba of the requisite size, as Diwali was fast approaching, I decided to make use of the picture on the vibhuti packets, lying in the drawer of the dressing table. Those pictures were of ordinary quality.
So, on one sunday morning, I went to the dressing table to take out the vibhuti packets from the drawer. But I saw on the table itself a vibhuti packet green in colour. As the packet carried a picture of Baba on it, I opened it to empty the vibhuti and to later cut out the picture. But, then what a surprise! I found three small colour pictures of Baba inside the packet. The pictures were nicely painted on a glazed paper and at the bottom of the pictures were printed the words “Blissful Smile”. I was so much shocked that I took a few minutes to call my wife to explain the incident. She was of course equally surprised at the event and told me about the phenomenon of one vibhuti packet appearing on the table now and then, which I explained earlier. To satisfy our curiosity we opened all the vibhuti packets lying in the drawer to see if they also contained any picture of Baba. There were none. As the three pictures were obvio usly meant for the three devotees mentioned above, we fixed the three pictures in the three frames and presented them in time for Diwali.

Usually when you are asked where God is, you point to the sky or some distant place of worship and say He is there, as if He is just a person and has a definite place of Residence. Every single individual in the planet is essentially Divine. It is delusion that has induced one who is Naraayana swarupa (embodiment of God) to imagine and behave as if he is just a nara (human). To remove that delusion, there are various means suited to the needs of each sufferer. But all the treatment and all the struggle is to achieve the experience of being Naraayana, and discard the limited, bound, and relative entity, nara. That is the one harvest yielded by all the various processes. Until one understands oneself, the delusion and the resultant grief cannot be ended. Make use of this precious opportunity, invest time to understand yourself.

If one does Surya Namaskaram daily with salutations to HIM it can can produce longevity,
efficiency, strength, etc. Repeat the Sun God Mantras and Names of the Sun at sunrise.
He who repeats them before sunrise, early in the morning, will possess
wonderful health, and vitality. He will be free from every kind of disease of the eye.

Everyone of us read at home and in the temple Narayana Suktam
wherein a line mentions ”Anthar bahir tat sarvam vyaapya narayana stithah”.
It means both inside and outside, Lord Narayana is pervaded. Hence
it is Sarvam Narayana Swaroopam.

Om Namo Narayana

You may sometimes feel you are a sinner, and are essentially wicked. But if someone were to think like you and calls you “Hello sinner!”, you will resent it! Why? Because, your real nature is purity, peace and joy. You are divine. You are a manifestation of God! Your mind, intellect, memory, egoism and the senses (Manas, Buddhi, Chitha, Ahamkara, Indhriyas) are like the bricks, iron rods, cement and wood that go up to make a house for your soul to live in. They are not you; the real you is the Divine Soul (Atma). You will truly appreciate this only by constant meditation, moving in good company, listening to the talks of the realised ones, and by following certain prescribed course of discipline. That is why I lay so much emphasis on discipline.

As we all know that Gautama Buddha (Siddharth) achieved his abilities
only through deep meditation when he had renounced the world
on seeing a sick person, an old man and a dead body and lived
as an ascetic. He wanted to know the nature's role and went
on meditation leaving his son Rahul and wife Yashodhara at midnight
to the forest to undertake the tapas. He would not have achieved
the miraculous powers but for the fact of practicing the path
of "kator tapas". A person can do meditation practices daily
or once in a week according to one's own convenience either
individually or in a Satsang. Similarly there is no age limit. Anyone
can do it. However, one has to have a desire to do it willingly
without any compulsion. If it is done sincerely with full dedication,
one can feel the effect of it gradually. This slowly paves the way
for the spiritual practice. With the regular practice, it clears one
from egoism, selfishness, etc and eliminates all negative feelings
or emotions in the subconscious mind. Further, it enables to enhance
the functions of respiration, digestion, heartbeat, etc.

There is no dearth of good books, telling you how to live happily and be free from grief, and many thousand copies of them are being purchased. Yet there is nothing to indicate that the content in the books have been read and assimilated. The habits, conduct, and character of the readers of these books have not undergone any change for good. Egoism and greed are still rampant; hatred has not abated and envy eats into the vitals of the society. Henceforth, do not treat My words lightly. Decide to implement in your life, atleast one advice for your spiritual growth. Every one of you must examine your mental make-up and see whether you have used your discrimination and scientific temper (Viveka and Vijnana) to clothe yourself with detachment (Vairagya), so that you do not suffer from the attachment to the worldly objects.

Leading a devotional life is a gift to everyone and to spend sometime
everyday in the august presence of the Supreme Power is still something
great. Many visit the temples to have darshan and seek blessings. But
only a few concentrate on the Supreme Power and dedicate their mind
towards HIM without allowing the mind and heart to loiter around.
Devotional practice is not to be an informal gesture. Some talk family
matters while sitting in the temple. It is just like sowing a seed in the
garden. Only a few pay attention and attach concentration on devotion.
for e.g. You may choose as many seeds as you like to sow. You may also
water them at regular intervals with attachments. But one has to be
vigilant that it is not spoiled. You may add new plants just like visiting
many temples. But then one has to be confident and have trust in
knowing a Supreme Power in any form pleases him/her. Devotion
is not something that is done casually once a week, just like visiting
a temple on holidays or at once leisure time. It needs to be part
of one's daily practice and a routine one. If one does it regularly
it enables to build self discipline too. It paves way for a commitment
in one's regular activities. Anything one learns or reads in the spiritual
books, may have to be put into practice at least to a certain extent.

Egoism and greed are still rampant; hatred has not abated and envy eats into the vitals of the society. Henceforth, do not treat My words lightly. Decide to implement in your life, atleast one advice for your spiritual growth. The hopes raised by the advances of science and technology have proved dupes. While science has overcome the barriers of time, distance and nationality, it has done little to promote better understanding between man and man, and nation and nation. However there are heartening signs that earnest seekers around the world are turning inward to find answers to this crisis. The oneness of all creation affirmed by the ancient seers must be expressed in transcendental love that embraces all people regardless of creed, community or language, to overcome this mammoth challenge. Never forget that the real source of happiness and bliss is the discovery of the true self (Atma) within yourself. All of you are essentially divine. Observe basic human qualities in daily living and raise yourself above the level of animals.

- Divine Discourse, Aug 1981

One has to lead a life with an awareness that our existence in
this world is purely with the blessings of the Supreme Power.
While our body is perishable just like a vegetable or fruit, the
soul is imperishable. A person may have sufficient wealth and
rich in life, but he/she may not have peaceful life, either due to
fear to safeguard the wealth or due to disease not being able to
eat, etc. With the result, he/she will always be restless. Owing
to the effect of karma, a person takes birth after birth to
undergo the problems or troubles according to one's own deeds
in the earlier generation. In order to attain bliss of the Supreme
Power and to get liberation from this, i.e. troubles, problems,
diseases, etc. one has to worship the Supreme Power and attain
his divine bliss. While there are many methods, to attain this,
one has to maintain purity of heart and keep away from selfishness
and requires to be dedicated towards the Supreme Power.
As one gets up daily, if one worships daily in the morning and
do some prayer after completion of routine duties, one can
gain gradually some confidence and trust and he/she will be
free from restless mind during that day. Next step could be one
can do meditation too by keeping away from environment with a
control over the senses i.e. not being attracted by situations around.
If this practice is continued daily without any gap, with absolute
sincerity and dedication maintaining full concentration on the Supreme
Power, one can easily over a period get the mind and heart attached
to the Supreme Power.

Divinity is immanent in every being. But who is responsible for this Divinity within? The mother who has borne you for nine months with many difficulties, and is even ready to sacrifice her life for your welfare. You owe your existence to your mother. The welfare of the children depend on the mother. It is because of the mother’s love that children become eminent and great. So the foremost duty of every individual is to be grateful to one’s mother, respect her and serve her. The Ladies Day serves as a reminder that one should revere and love one’s mother and never hurt her feelings. It is not only the rulers who protect the nation, but women of great chastity are also responsible. All the prosperity and good we find in this land of Bharat is due to the strength of women of virtue.

The Supreme Power dwells within us and with us always. It is we who have
to find out and understand its existence with the faith about the mortal soul.
Some do philosophical search through the spiritual articles to get an awareness
or an enlightenment about this aspect. If that search is continuous with
confidence to find out the spiritual light or divine power, one can get a
positive result, which would be imminent. Our ancient Scholars used to
mention that as fragrance dwells in a flower, reflection in a mirror are few
examples to state that the Supreme Power dwells inside everything. One
should have longing, eagerness, and aspiration towards achieving the divine
power. If a person has a mind to go in for it, it creates an emotion in
him/her and it slowly turns into motivation resulting in an intellect or wisdom
of the divine act. Illumination of human soul takes little time but one should
not get an aversion in the process.

A Weak Moment

1. A negative thought that is locked within your mind is bound to release its venom when you least expect it.

2. When one fears the company of his own Self he leans outward to capture peace. In the attempt to capture peace one himself gets captive in the web of desire.

3. The law of karma does not bend for anyone. If you have gone against the nature of your soul you shall surely earn time to repent for the mistake.

4. Fear the moment when your weaknesses overcome you and urge you toward an unnecessary wrong doing. Fear that moment I say… and turn the weakness instead toward the blissful nature of your soul. It may be too late to fear when karma returns to you with the moments of shame and repentance.

5. Remember whenever you react with anger you are standing and being supported by the deepest fears that reside within you....

6. Passion takes you ten steps forward and a hundred steps back. Equanimity takes you one step ahead and at every step accomplishes a hundred tasks.

7. Fear is the belief in the absence of one’s Self.

8. Remember it is your attachment to people you think you love and the things you desire that make you lesser and lesser your Self…

9. You are more prepared of what may happen rather than what is happening to you.

10. Faith is the moment when the Self alone stands and the whole universe disappears in its grandeur.

11. Who says that faith is blind? Faith sees all with the eye of the Supreme Self.

12. The restless mind says to God, "O Lord if you are to fulfill this wish of mine I will be at peace.Th Lord answers to His child," My dear child you can only find peace

when you shall abandon your wish You have to wait patiently not to see if you shall receive what you have asked for.............You have to wait to see with patience what I have willed for you to do............ You are restless because you are attached to the dream of the mind and you have in that delusion forgotten to awake to the spirit of the soul in which I reflect always.............the whole truth!"

Have you ever visualised Viswa Virata Swarupa (the Cosmic Form)? Earth, water, sky, etc., can be seen in it. The universe is made of five elements, and the same five elements are present in you too. So, you are Viswa Virata Swarupa. God is in you and in everybody. So hurting others amounts to hurting God. Do not criticize and find fault with others. Love all, Serve all. First of all respect, adore, and worship your parents. They constitute the real wealth of your life. The blessings of your parents will confer health and wealth on you. God comes to you on His own when you love and serve your parents. We need not go to God but should make God come to us. One can select one’s wife, but not one’s parents. Only God (when He comes in human form) selects His parents. I wish that you obtain the blessing of your parents and set an ideal for the rest of the world.
