Compassion towards all creatures is the greatest virtue, willful injury to any creature is the worst vice. Have full faith in this; spread love and joy, through compassion, and be full of joy and peace, yourself.

Just like a fish which can live only when it is immersed in water, when it feels the element all around it, so too man is a being that can live only when immersed in ananda (bliss); one must have ananda not merely at home, in society and in the world but more than all, in the heart. As a matter of fact, the ananda in the heart produces ananda all around; the heart is the spring of joy. That spring has to be touched by constant meditation, recitation and the intermittent dwelling on the glory, the grace and the inexhaustible manifestations of the Lord, that is, smarana, chethana and manana. Hold fast to the goal; the devotee should never turn back. Never give way to doubt or despair.

If one is in a Satsang, he/she will always be on a religious wavelength
and is more likely to choose a wise or prudent option about the need
for a prayer or meditation, etc. Because, the Satsang provides energy
and useful thoughts about the Supreme Power just like a psychological
nutrient to the mind and it also refuels the inner mind and also influences
the subconscious thoughts in the process. Secondly, if one does any
activity in the Satsang, it is watched by everyone present over there.
This indirectly gives a feeling to a person that someone watches the
deeds or acts. Similarly, it creates a feeling in one, that if one does a mistake
the Supreme Power will always watch anything that is being done.
Besides if one attends the Satsang regularly, one may not misbehave.

This in turn controls the desires and directs a person in the right direction
towards the Supreme Power. One has to always think that the Supreme
Power has wonderful things in store for a devotee. Hence worship has to
be pure and it should be based on the spiritual guidelines so as to attain
a positive mind and feelings/emotions. With the result one can demonstrate
intelligent and vigorous search towards unearthing secrets of Supreme
Power's role in different forms according to our Puranas. Thus, a right
conception absolutely essential and it should form the basis for a person
to have a systematic approach and become practical in worship/meditation
or prayer, etc which would become the foundation for a clear mind and
a pure heart.

SWAMI'S PERSONAL ROOM

During my 2003 visit to Bharoshalaya Baba's room was cleaned, straightened, and food was left for Swami. The door is always secured afterwards because it is Baba's room, and not a public venue like the bhajan halls, Swami's temple or the Goddess mandir. When we re-entered Swami's room a small portion of the food had been eaten and there was hair, the texture and color of Baba's hair, in His comb and brush set.

A person driving a car may concentrate on the road, anxious to save oneself and others from accident. Fear is what induces single-mindedness in this case. But Love is a greater force to aid concentration. Steady and resolute love makes one’s concentration become intense and unshakeable. Faith develops into love and love results in concentration. Prayer is possible and begins to yield fruit, under such conditions. Pray, using the Name as a symbol of the Lord; pray keeping all the waves of the mind stilled. Pray, as the performance of a duty for your very real existence, as the only justification for your coming into the world, as man.

Faith in Supreme Power brings peace of mind besides confidence
and happiness in sharing HIS blessings. If a person has problems
or worry, he/she knows that HE would help and develop endurance
in mind if/she has absolute faith in the Supreme Power. Above
all righteousness of a person enables to judge the true thoughts
and mends the attitudes in the right direction. One would not be
able to gain knowledge of spiritual activities or deeds unless one
has absolute faith and trust in the Supreme Power. Similar to
the remote control to unlock one's vehicle or car without the
key, one cannot unlock the wisdom of Supreme Power without
having trust in HIM and follow the instructions as laid down in the
Spiritual books or Puranas. A good communication through
prayer or worship etc builds trust in a person and enables to
control or withhold the emotions/feelings towards furthering
the devotional acts and gaining a relationship in a Satsang.

A bullock cart cannot move on rails nor a locomotive on the road. Each type of vehicle has its own type of road. But all move forward and reach the goal in their own good time. Same is the case, whatever be your functional role (Varna) in the society. Each Varna has its own set of rules, regulations and restrictions. Be it the Varnas or Ashramas (the various stages of life with their fixed duties), they are merely convenient arrangement for the conduct of worldly affairs and paths to attain supra-worldly joy. Whether head or heels, it is the same blood that circulates through each; it is the same body which claims them as limbs. Each limb has to perform its task, the task for which it has specialised. You cannot walk on your head or think with the feet. Whichever section of society you may belong to, the Lord is revealed when the heart is pure.

Suppose if we have kept any eatables or consumables in a glass bottle and
if we are to see what is inside without opening it, if the bottle is clean both
inside and outside, the object inside would be visible. Similarly if the mirror
is clean without any dirt, one could see the face clearly or if the glass of
the mirror is not good, it may show differently than what it is and one may
not see the true image. Similarly divinity shall be visible to a person if he/she
has pure hearts and true spirits of the Supreme Power. Spiritual realization
is nothing but a light that is being lit in front of the Supreme Power and also
within one's heart and mind. The body of a person only becomes a channel
for the transmission and development of feeling/emotion to attain perfection
just like blood running around the body to all the parts. Perfection cannot
be accomplished unless one has purity of heart and mind. Spiritual power and
divine culture is impossible to attain unless one has morality and good deeds
besides pure heart and mind by getting involved or submerged into the
spiritual influences or activities. It has to be practiced step by step so as
to accomplish it successfully by the divine guidance in a Satsang not attaching
too much importance to the eternal happiness only. One has to strive hard
to see the light of reality of Supreme Power and to achieve everlasting
blessings just like a fragrance in a Garden which has full of flowers of different
types or kinds.

There are four questions that every person must interest oneself with : “Who am I?”, ”Where have I come from?”, “Where am I going?” and “How long will I remain here?”. These questions have been answered clearly in the Vedas. All spiritual inquiry begins with these questions and attempts to find answers to them. If you drop a letter in the post box without writing the ‘From’ or ‘To’ address, it will go nowhere but to the ‘dead letter office’. In fact it is a waste of time writing that letter, is it not? So too, if you do not know the purpose of your life in this world, you will get caught in the cycle of birth and death, and will never reach your destination. To find answers to these key questions, you must begin enquiry about the Self. To get the answers, you must practice spiritual discipline. Then, you will find that the answers become part of your daily living experiences!

Everyone has to have some ideals in life. One of that has to be
about knowing the concept of divine joy and uniting with the
divine nature so as to realize the divine power which has to be
the goal through adoption of spiritual life. Once a person attains
some sort of maturity by practicing spiritual life through spiritual
deeds or acts, is clear in his/her mind that he/she never gets
disturbed by self-centered desires or ego. Adoption of wrong
habits of living or thinking, persistence in keeping away from a
Satsang is not going to bring the desired results. Experience
of happiness, problems or troubles in life are common to everyone
but then it should not bother a person from doing regular worship
or prayer, etc. The above things vary from person to person
whereas the destiny or ultimate goal of attaining the bliss of the
Supreme Power is common to everyone. One should not just
rest on the fate or luck in the life. Divine consciousness has to
be developed by attending all Satsang activities keeping away
from momentary thoughts as one cannot escape from the past
karma. In this life, one has to do good things so that the
good karma brings a rapid change in the journey, i.e. in the rest of the life.

Often you are aware that there is something behind and beyond all the fleeting fantasy; something that persists through all the successes and defeats, the tears and smiles, the mirth and moan - but you are unable to grasp it and realize that it is the same Entity that underlies the entire Universe. You are indeed one with the most distant star and the least little blade of grass – you shine as dew on the petal of the rose, you are part and parcel of all this manifestation! The scriptures teach you this truth through many a parable, and even directly through the experience of saints and mystics. Through meditation and practice of spiritual discipline, you can be aware of yourselves as all this. Hanuman may have the form of a monkey, but do not get carried away by the outer casement (Upadhi). Every living being in this Universe is part and parcel of the Supreme Power.
As we use the parts of our body to assist the other portion in the body,
one is required to get adjusted to any activity in the Universe. In that
process, one such activity is worship and prayer of the Supreme Power.
While doing activities, one has to understand the difference between
pious and impious. There is a difference between animal and human being.
Even the animals if they are taught and habituated like a domestic animal, viz. dog,
it does not commit an error, though a human being is likely to commit an error.
We see plenty of flowers in a garden with a good fragrance, which is created
by the Supreme Power. They are also used for some good purpose, just like
temples and puja room, etc. for worship and prayer. Similarly our body, mind
and heart also should be useful for some good purpose. In this direction, one
has to develop a conscious and understand the concept behind it, the necessity
for worship and prayer. One has to primarily understand that nothing belongs
to us and everything is part and parcel of the Supreme Power. While one dies
he/she carrys nothing with them in spite of accumulating enormous wealth and
power in the society. We live in an atmosphere created by the Supreme Power
where we are unable to see the air through our naked vision but for feeling it.
While if a person gains conscious about the existence of the Supreme Power,
he/she does not see anything else other than HIM. Once a person gains
consciousness about the existence of the Supreme Power, it would teach
everything over a period. While one can measure the well water, will one be
able to measure the water that exists in the Ocean!!

Spiritual Practice (Sadhana) must be done in a disciplined and systematic manner, in an atmosphere filled with virtues. Just as fans in a large hall cool the atmosphere and provide soothing breeze to the people gathered there, so too, the fans of Truth, Right Conduct, Peace and Love (Sathya, Dharma, Shanthi, and Prema) are necessary to reduce the sweltering heat of ignorance, falsehood, injustice and indiscipline (Ajnaana, Asathya, Anyaaya and Akrama). In a world where noble conduct is being insulted and denied at every turn, peace and tolerance are the only means through which you can save yourself. This is the most important aspect that I ask you to cultivate. In every act, have tolerance and patience with a mutual helping attitude. In the family, cultivate patience and mutual respect; in the community, have righteousness and justice.

Sincere, devoted and dedicated spiritual practice can illuminate a person
by driving out the ignorance in him/her. To take birth in India itself is a
great boon. Secondly the sacred puranas, ithihasas, etc that we possess
can change the life of a person if one has desires and interests to go through
them step by step and start practice the spiritual guidelines. Through sincere
Sadhana one can realize many things in life particularly one can gain a
lasting peace of mind. Self-discipline and focusing one's attention without
any diversion is absolutely essential. Initially long hours of practice may not be
possible, but one has to slowly improve upon. Continuous and persistant
Sadhana would enable to discover the pleasure of spiritual life. In the process
one can gain rich and highly valuable ideas which would make the life more
secure, interesting, and it would develop a vibration in him/her. Slowly and
slowly the devotee will get away from unworthy ideas and schools of thought
that emanates from the society or from the people in and around and move
into the spiritual sphere without any hesitation. Developing a dedication towards
spiritual practices brings a transformation in one's life. To start with one can
do practice daily pranayama which would be very effective. Chanting of mantras,
slokas etc can be done with a guidance from an experienced person. If it is done
regularly, it brings in a remarkable change in a person.

The body is said to be the tabernacle of God. In fact the world itself is the body of God. A pinprick on the toe is immediately recognised as an injury to the self, because the toe is part of the self-same body. So too, suffering in one corner of the world is as much the concern of the Lord, as suffering in any other. The whole world is a mansion of the Lord. All countries and states are mere rooms in His mansion. Never forget that the whole world is a temple of the Lord; it is His body and He resides in it!

Serving the Supreme Power and HIS disciples is a great assignment
and in fact it is a blessing too. In fact, service starts at home.
One has to develop absolute and true love towards everyone besides
adopting a habit of listening to others patiently. One has to offer himself/
herself without any restraint and become dedicated to render service
to others with a pleasing manner and not hurting others. This can
become part of a true worship. One should not conform oneself and
is not required to set any yardstick to it. One has to slowly transform
inwardly to adapt to any situation by a possible change of ones own mind
in times of need or necessity. As Baba says, one should not think oneself
more high than he/she is. One has to get reformed in his/her thinking
and has to judge oneself in accordance with the guidelines as set out in
our Puranas or Ithihaasas, the quantum of faith the Supreme Power has
given to one. Further, as Baba says, a person has many parts in the body
and each one does different functions. Similarly, though we are different,
one has to think that all of us are one common stature in union with
the Supreme Power. As all the parts of the body get instructions from the
brain to act, one should get mixed or in unity, function to serve the Supreme
Power without any differentiation. If there is a need to serve a society,
perhaps during calamity or crisis, one should render service without any
hesitation. If it is required to educate someone during that time,
one should not hesitate to tell them the necessity for it. If somebody needs
encouragement or requires to develop courage, one has to share his/her
feelings and try to say a few pleasing words to change his/her mind.
One has to render service generously without any second thought,
and show kindness to others.

Mud existed before plates and pots were made out of it; pots and plates are mud, and mud will remain when plates and pots are no more. The plate and the pot must be aware of their being always mud; that in other words, is Self-Realisation. When that is achieved, wherever your eyes are cast, you will find yourself; and wherever your attention is directed, you will see your reflection. Begin to feel it now, from this very moment! Seek to identify yourself as part of the grand and glorious Entity, for all Grandeur and all Glory is His, ultimately!
