True education means trying to manifest the inner divinity in man. How is this manifestation to be brought about? Students must receive education that illumines every aspect of life - the economic, the political, the moral, the spiritual and the physical, the mental and the social environment of man. It should not be confined to one specific sphere. Many students consider book knowledge as education. This gives them only superficial knowledge. They need practical knowledge which will enable them to lead righteous lives. Education should also result in the purification of the heart. Men and women must be taught to be sincere in thought, word and deed, as a mark of humanness. Students must also revere their parents at all times and promote the cause of social improvement. They must co-operate with all fellow-beings. These are the things all students should learn.

Man can learn any number of good qualities from animals, birds, insects and worms. The animal, donkey is viewed with contempt. But the quality of patience to be found in a donkey is not found even in man. Whatever burdens may be heaped on its back, it bears them all with forbearance. Even when it is starved of food and water, it presents a calm face. Man has thus to learn the quality of forbearance from the donkey. The ant is one of the tiniest among insects. But the ant has a capacity for foresight; with foreknowledge of the rainy season ahead, it starts storing food from three months in advance. Then, there is the spider - Determination is one of its traits. How many times its web may be destroyed or broken, the spider will go on remaking it with relentless determination.

No doubt search for happiness is a basic instinct in every
human life. But then, happiness alone is not complete in one's life.
Religious experience gives more happiness depending upon the level
of one's spiritual awareness and could be the ultimate goal of
everyone and hence religious journey is also inevitable. May be
one has to keep away from self-centered desires, if one desires
to achieve the divine bliss. Wonders could be achieved in life if
one has a good dedicated mind following the righteousness towards
the divine power. Spontaneous realization cannot be achieved just
like that and it needs lot of effort and concentration in the above exercise.
In fact one can find happiness and pleasures if one adopts dharma and
righteousness. The exercise needs discipline giving up of all kinds
of material desires with a right concentration on the Supreme Power
shedding selfishness and dependence on the illusory or temporary
happiness.

Bhagawan: In the final dissolution, or Mahapralaya, Iswara too will become non-existent. Brahmam alone will exist, isn't it? Then, how can the Sankalpa of Iswara be the hethu? It cannot be. While considering this subject, you should not take Brahma, Vishnu and Iswara as three separate entities. These three are forms shaped by the three gunas. All three are One Paramatma. But, since it is difficult to understand the working of the world, it is explained and grasped as three; three forms engaged in three types of actions, bearing three names. At the time of creation, dissolution is absent. Both can coexist only beyond time. Man who exists in time, action and cause can never hope to grasp it. When you transcend the three gunas, you too can attain that, but, not till then. So, without spending time in such un-understandable problems, engage yourself in the things you urgently need, traversing the path, which will lead you to the Goal.

You must develop a sense of spiritual oneness. Out of that sense of oneness, love will grow. Love alone can bind the whole of humanity into one unit. What do you see in the precincts of Prashanthi Nilayam? People gather from Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and all parts of the world. What has brought them together in this small village? It is only love and the sense of oneness shared with others. The bliss of life is embedded in love, and it gives you pure bliss. When your life dances on the waves of this love, it attains fulfillment. Love and Sacrifice (Prema and Thyaga) are the two most important ideals in life. Love all, even those who hate you. That is the index of your devotion. Peace, truth and love are inherent in every being. Why do you search for them outside? Manifest these qualities which are within you. Cultivate forbearance and compassion. This is the way to foster the love principle.

- Divine Discourse, Feb 13, 1997.

One has to develop consciousness or spiritual experiences in the life sometime
or other to attain the divine bliss. Life may seem meaningless if one is not able
to derive the divine consciousness though it may look different initially to the
non-devotees of the Supreme Power but for the devotees it would appear
completely different. For this, perception is one of the main reasons. Human
understanding is only realised in perfect humility once he/she develops a sense
of spiritual oneness before the sacred world in which we dwell. Intimate relationship
with anyone brings not only oneness but also brings a feeling of interdependence
at times. Sometimes one develops an insatiable curiosity to meet others who
were associated with the spiritual oneness and become amazed or rather fascinated
on seeing them. Here a state of awakening takes place. In the conglomeration
one does not experience egos. Self consciousness is driven out and a peculiar
sensation of divine power blossoms in the heart and mind and oneness is developed.

People suffer from two types of agony - the first one can be allayed through others’ intercession and the second can be allayed only by your own effort. For instance, hunger and thirst can be overcome only when you eat or drink. However much others may eat, will it abate even an iota of your hunger? So too, if your wife, mother or son offers to take an injection on your behalf, can your illness be cured? The hunger and illness of your soul is also the same. You must help yourself. The illness you face today is due to some infection. Your illness is caused by the viruses of desire, anger, greed, delusion, pride, jealousy (Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha and Mathsarya). These viruses prevent your Divinity from shining forth; they cause discontent, worry, grief and pain. You can overcome them by manifesting your inner strength. Do not yield, fight them with the faith that you are eternal and unconquerable.

- Divine Discourse, Nov 26, 1964.

A person who holds good virtues has the mind and heart towards
sensory and spiritual deeds and in the process he/she chooses and
pursues good and concrete actions in life. Human virtues sometimes
become determined and firm attitudes. Suddenly, it becomes difficult
for some to alter their habitual practices or to govern their actions,
passions or get guided or conduct themselves according to justifying
reason or faith. Suppose if a person is prudent, he/she disposes
practical reasons and try to find out the good/wise reason according to
circumstances and chooses the right means to achieve the right goal.
If a person desires to attain divine bliss, one has to ensure firm
attitude even during the times of difficulties besides sustenance of
consistency in the pursuit of divine deeds. Thus one has to have
a virtue of will power i.e. strong and determined mind to do good deeds
prior to undertaking any task so that he/she forms a good judgment
in life. In fact, he/she should have an appetite towards divine deeds
or divine power, which would make a way to have a proper and moral
judgments besides an unclouded mind at all times.

If two people are in the same frequency of feeling and emotion,
affection, etc. then they share each other all the activities that
they undergo. As one loves his/her friend, one can also extend
love towards the Supreme Power. Some expect a reassurance
when one loves his/her own friend. If it is not perfect, it does not
exhibit complete love. It has no boundary or circumstances, etc.
But it should produce a feeling of satisfaction and contentment.
In the case of love between two human beings, at times, it becomes
difficult to distinguish between the two as to who feels what
and what other one is doing it. Whereas if a person has dedicated
love towards the Supreme Power, it is impossible to quantify. Further
it reflects the simplicity and enormous joy in carrying out the deeds
for extending the love towards the Supreme Power.

You should broaden your heart that it may be filled with all-embracing love. Only then can the sense of spiritual oneness of all mankind be experienced. Out of that sense of unity will be born the love of God. This love will generate in the heart pure bliss that is boundless, indescribable and everlasting. For all forms of bliss, love is the source. A heart without love is like a barren land. Foster love in your hearts and redeem your lives. Whatever your scholarship or wealth, they are valueless without love. Sow the seed of love in your hearts and it will grow in due course into a big tree. God is one. Do not entertain any differences of religion, creed or caste. Carry the message of unity to every home. Embodiments of love! Regard Love as your life-breath and as the sole purpose of your existence.

- Divine Discourse, Dec 25, 1994.

Generally, loving the flowers, fruits, etc is not that difficult
whereas loving the people around us could be a major challenge
at times if the understanding is not cent percent. While, if we
love the Supreme Power with absolute faith, we derive the benefits
of spiritual gifts, knowledge, wisdom, etc. Faith is the unique
ability one has to possess to trust God for great things to happen
in life. Without surrendering to HIM or expressing spirituality towards
HIM, HIS love cannot be achieved. One should possess pure and
perfect motives towards HIM to seek HIS love. It is not just an
action or emotion but we need to put our love at HIS lotus feet
with patience, sincere prayer and humble before HIM without
any expectations. Arrogance brings only disrespects. The Supreme
Power expects us to serve HIS devotees and also to be gracious
toward them at all times. Love is not a possessive one and can not
also be demanded.

Today we celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ. Jesus taught that you should seek the Kingdom of Heaven and to enter that Kingdom, you must cultivate loving hearts. Then your hearts would become the Kingdom of Heaven. When Jesus was born in the manger, three kings were led by a star to His place of birth. One of them, seeing the infant Jesus observed: "This Child will be a lover of God." The second said: "No, God will love Him." The third one said: "Verily He is God Himself." The significance of these three statements is - "To love God is to be His Messenger." To be loved by God is to be a son of God and finally, as Jesus Himself said: "I and My Father are one." Be aware that all of you are messengers of God. All of you are Children of God. So be free from selfishness and manifest the qualities of the Divine Father from today.

We have Saint Thyagaraja, an example. He was able to build a love and
relationship with Lord Rama. Through his Songs, one could understand the
love he had generated towards Lord Rama and in his songs giving narrations
of different situations. Not only he talked to Lord Rama but also he everyday
prayed HIM with dedication through his melodious versions. He could
also speak to Lord Rama that what he had to tell HIM, what he has in his
heart and how much he appreciates the good things he earned from Lord Rama.
If one had to love someone one has to be completely loyal to him/her.
Similarly towards the Supreme Power too; no matter what the cost is.
You have to always have belief in HIM, not expecting anything from HIM,
besides always stand by HIS side to seek HIS blessings. Some turn away from
HIM. If one is not able to get HIS bliss, or do not worship HIM regularly,
one may feel that he/she is separated from HIM forever. Every human being
is get caught in a cycle of sin. If one wants to be free from such things,
one has to try to get relief and free from it. For that, the Supreme Power's
love is inescapable.

In ordinary life people regard the body as permanent and for the sake of its pleasures undertake all kinds of efforts. This is a sign of ignorance. A body without the mind is as useless as a school without a teacher and a temple without a deity. The body should be regarded as an instrument for right living. Swami, looking at the faces of all the devotees, said: If no one has any question to ask, Gadhia, you ask a question!
I prayed and searched in my mind to find a reasonable question. The moment I offered my prayer, Beloved Swami helped me to ask the question, “Swami, when You were at Shirdi, You told Shama, Your ardent devotee, that he was connected with You for the last 72 generations, and when the members of the Dhurandhar family arrived at Shirdi You had said: These are members of My Darbar (royal court) and connected with Me for the last 60 generations! I am now in front of You, and I would like to know since how many generations have I been connected with You?”
Everybody greatly appreciated this question and Beloved Swami swaying slowly while on His settee, said: Very good question!
He then added: You are connected with Swami for the last many generations and you will still be connected with Swami for many more generations.
I immediately asked, “Then, no liberation, Swami?” He sat up straight in His settee and, with an unhappy expression, said: Liberation? This means you are a great hypocrite!
I immediately answered, “Swami, I fail to understand why You called me a hypocrite?”
Bhagawan said: Don’t you sing this bhajan in front of the devotees?... Tumhin Mere Ram Ho…Tumhin Mere Shyam Ho… Tumhin Mere Pran Ho…, Janam Janam Ke Sathi Ho… (meaning: You are my Rama! You are my Krishna! You are my soul and companion through life after life!)
Bhagawan continued: This means you are telling the devotees that Swami is your companion through many lives. It is only outward show, because today you are asking Me to give you liberation! Don’t you think you are a hypocrite?
I answered holding both my ear lobes with both hands, “Swami, I promise not to ask for liberation in this life, but You are going to remain my companion in the lives to come?”
He answered in a jovial mood: Yes, Swami will be with you for many generations to come. Your next birth will be in Mysore State – in Srirangapatnam, and you will be with Prema Sai. You have been serving in this life and you will still be serving more!

The human body, made up of the five basic elements and endowed with the five sense organs, is not different from the mind. The mind wears the body as a vesture. The mind, for its enjoyment, uses the body as an instrument. It is the cause of all experiences. A body without a mind is as illusory as a crop on a barren field. In ordinary life people regard the body as permanent and for the sake of its pleasures undertake all kinds of efforts. This is a sign of ignorance. A body without the mind is as useless as a school without a teacher and a temple without a deity. The body should be regarded as an instrument for right living. Today, people are developing their intellectual abilities but are using their intelligence for wrong purposes. Knowledge without right action is useless. Mere action without knowledge is foolishness. Hence it is necessary to combine knowledge with cultivation of character.
