Dedication is extremely essential to enhance the love towards God than earthly items.
It is also impossible to attain his love without absolute faith in HIM. HE will come near
only to those who are near to HIM provided he/she understands the first and foremost
thing is to have confidence in HIM always. We have a number of scriptures and
Ithihasas to explain all the details in this direction. Once a person develop a faith
to trust HIM, then automatically he/she would enjoy HIS great pleasure of HIS presence.
Once that stage is attained, it will be easier to stand before HIS radiant presence,
which will be a treasure in one's life. Initially, one's heart may not be at it. If a
person joins a satsang and continue spiritual practices regularly, his/her heart will
hear HIS glory. If that is enriched, love towards God and the devotees closeness
to God will grow and will never cease from the mind nor will it ever end. It is
rather unchangeable or unalterable once established , and it will never run out of
mind and heart.

Every one knows that mind is the thought process of person to think both of good and
bad. Bit if there is a continuous flow of good thoughts prevail towards the Supreme power
one would automatically be lead to the arena of unaffected devotion. If a person has
devotion either towards Lord Sankara or Lord Narayana and worship HIM followed by
all dedicated activities towards HIM, it would automatically ensure that the devotee gets HIS
blessings. When once the sense-organs are not engaged in the right spirit in seeking
HIS bliss because of sense-appetites for the sense-objects, then it may be difficult for
a person. If one enters spiritual field with courage, confidence and absolute faith and
start their honest efforts, it will be easy to achieve the divine power at some point of time.
One must be determined to pursue daily meditation. At the same time, every effort put
in by that person will automatically guide him towards this truth. One should never give
up the practice in despair. Sincerity and earnestness will make heart and mind to earn
the desired result.

Normally, when one of our close relatives stay away for sometime, say has gone to abroad
for a couple of years or so, one speaks daily and thinks of him without fail. It is because, one
can not see him directly. Then what we do. We take the photograph of that person and
look at him/her for sometime to get a solace. Though, it is a paper where the picture of a
person is printed, we give importance to that, because our heart and minds reminds about
that person because of love and affection towards that person. In that way, we think of
the picture of God or Goddess that we have at home or the idol at the temple. Once we
sit or stand in front of that great image, automatically our mind reminds about HIS/HER
supreme power. As it is not easily possible for every one to conceive a formless supreme
power in the mind or heart, our puranas and ithihasas have given a direction to conceive
a form of God in the form of an idol. That is why, one gets an affection and desire
to decorate the idol and enjoy the pleasure and happiness. In any country, normally
the citizen salutes the Country's flag and give respect. The flag gives a sort of feeling
and consciousness to salute it. Therefore, the idol appears as a living embodiment
of his God/Goddess to pay his/her respects and affection of bakthi. Some people
go into ecstasy also, as if they do not remember their presence in the temple premises.
Some forget the ideals in one's life about the significance of the idols. Therefore, it is
necessary for all of us to remember that the idol worship which is in the temple is
nothing but the presence of God/Goddess, representing the true form of the
God/Goddess. Through continued prayer and worship, one can certainly attain
the bliss of the God/Goddess.

Be thankful to the Lord, for He gave you Time, as well as action to fill it with. He gave you food, as well as hunger to relish it. But that does not entitle you to engage yourself in action indiscriminately. When you build a house, you install a door in it, don’t you? What is the purpose of the door? It has dual objectives - to welcome all you would like to offer hospitality to, and to keep out all and sundry, so that they cannot walk in whenever they like. So too, install a door in your mind. Select the impulses, the motives, and the incentives that appear in your mind and welcome them in. Keep out the demeaning, the debasing and the deleterious. Then, gradually you will be able to admit and experience the highest wisdom of the scriptures, the wisdom culled out of the crucible of experience (anubhava jnananam).

A question may come up in everybody's mind who is near to God. To be precise,
one who is completely devoted towards God, will always be near to God. We
have a number of examples towards this. For e.g. Radha was a Gopi. She was
most near to Lord Krishna. Our literature explains about this in detail. Since
Radha's
devotion and dedication towards Lord Sri Krishna was complete, she was most
dear to Lord Krishna. Radha was always thinking of Lord Sri Krishna and never thought
of anyone else besides Lord Krishna. Similarly, if one's
devotion towards God is
complete in all respects, then there cannot be any other reason to say that God
shall not be with that person. In this connection, we can read Verse 14 of Chapter 8
of Bhagwat Gita
ananya-cetah satatam, yo mam smarati nityasah
tasyaham sulabhah partha, nitya-yuktasya yoginah"

Lord Krishna says to Arjuna, Whosoever, always & constantly remembers Me
with undivided mind; by that person, I am easy to obtain, O Arjuna, because
of his constant engagement in the devotional service to Me.

Affection and Devotion are the keys to reach him.

It is very easy to cultivate a habit of mentally visualizing the form of Lord
Shiva or Vishna as one likes and repeat that viz. Om Namah Shivaya or
Om Namo Narayana before going to bed every night. One has to acquire
a burning desire to seek Self-knowledge and it has no obstacles. There is
another way to get concentration i.e. writing of Mantra is the easiest way.
For e.g. a Mala contains 108 beads. Normally, we notice that a mantra
is chanted while turning each bead. This practice of Japa is also a good
practice. While doing Japa, one has to sincerely attempt as far as possible
to keep away from all extraneous thoughts from the mind particularly,
during the period of japa practice. We have a number of Upanishads and
Ithihasas. One can choose a Mantra a day and understand the meaning
of that also. If one reads it with concentration and allows the mind to
reflect on that, effect of the mantras can be felt. Further one can have
a separate notebook exclusively for this purpose so that one can regularly
write the chosen or selected mantra about a page everyday. During that
time, one should not speak or look around, nor move away from the writing
activity until he/she completes the job. This sort of practice will certainly
enable a person to have immense concentration. In the process, the mind
also gets merged with that mantra as one whispers while writing. While the
hand is engaged in writing the mantra, the eyes are watching the mantra,
the mouth is silently chanting the mantra, and the ears are able to listen
to the mantra. The mind is thus directed towards one direction.

One has to try to keep away from material benefits or gains to gain the divine power through
attachments towards God. Besides, if a person does service to the society with a single thought
of offering service to the God as an act of worship, that would also bring a person into the divine
society. Thus the devotional attitude and service can certainly transform a person's mental attitude
and lead to the spiritual way of practice. As and when time permits, if a person is able to do
service to the society with dedication in HIS glory, such activities would become sanctified.
This would in turn pave a way to gain opportunity for the development of inner divine growth
which would result in happiness and fulfillment of the objectives of life. Normally, if a person
is dedicated and does service regularly, such actions gives an inspiration and sense of purpose
could be attained without any selfish approach. The selfless service helps to purify the mind.
If one develops love and awareness towards God, one can achieve a higher form of service,
and would be able to feel the divine presence in and around him/her. If one completely surrenders
to the God as the only truth of attaining Moksha, one would be able to enjoy the boundless
of joy of HIS presence and existence in him/her. Selfless service if dedicated, would not give or
create a feeling of tiresomeness or boring rather worshipful service gives dynamism, interest
and enjoyment to one's life. For all this one has to have absolute faith and self-confidence
to achieve the desired results.

While man desires to enjoy the life with all pleasures and comforts, he should not
fall prey only to merely material gains alone. As our ancient puranas and ithihasas
mention one can swim in the turbulent stream of life but has to come out of it
without being washed away by its water current, however to be in it and yet out of it
just like a lotus leaf in water. Even if a person puts in all hard effort to attain
a better life ethically and spiritually, it would not be fruitful without the grace of God
and hence there is a need for constant dedicated prayer towards God by chanting
HIS name through Nama Japa, contemplating on HIS divinely beautiful image
with the association of good persons who are devoted to God. We all know that
the human body and life are impermanent. But we take time to understand and
accept of the reality of existence sorrow and happiness, pleasure and pain, hopes and
despairs, etc. There are certain methods through which one can reform himself/
herself by coming out of illusion. One should not get trapped by the objective
world as Baba says. Meditation, Study of ancient and holy scriptures, rituals, and
above all Nama Sankeerthanam are some of the methods that would help us
in getting purified. One should not think that a prayer is merely chanting
of mantras or slokas. One should not come to a conclusion that a prayer
is recitation of some Vedas too. A prayer should be a heartfelt expression
with the concentration on divine energy along with the Satsang. Service to God and
to humanity is also a great prayer. Similarly one should love the people around is
the real devotion.

Forget the past; do not worry about possible errors or disappointments. Decide and Do. Sairam!
It was in the year 1961 that Swami instituted the first Veda Purusha Saptaha Jnana Yajna, during the sacredNavaratri Celebrations. Ever since, year after year Prasanthi Nilayam has been thronged by eager devotees during the seven days it is held on. Every year Bhagawan invites and hosts Ritwiks, individuals dedicated to the study of the ancient Vedas to conduct this Yajna, and also blesses His own students to join them in the incantations. Over half a century has passed, yet this fire-sacrifice is carried out just as it was done in 1961 - scrupulously following ancient vedic traditions. The grand worship concludes on the holy Vijayadashami day with the Poornaahuti function.
As part of the Dasara celebrations Bhagawan also conducted and presided over the Prasanthi Vidwan Mahasabha - an event in which scholars, elderly devotees and students of Bhagawan addressed the assembly of devotees. The day's function would conclude with a Divine Discourse.
For years we at Prasanthi Nilayam have had the privilege of witnessing this divine event. But this Dasara, for the first time, you can be a part of these celebrations from whichever part of the world you shall be in.
We at Radio Sai are happy to inform you that with the blessings of Bhagawan, we will be broadcasting Live the Dasara celebrations of this year. The yajnam will be broadcast live on the first, second and the last day, while all sessions of the Vidwan Mahasabha will be broadcast live from the Sai Kulwant Hall everyday. The detailed schedule of the Live Broadcasts is given below.

We read many scriptures and puranas in our live. Only reading them will not give us
the correct solution. One has to take an oath that one will not do any harmful things
or adopt forbidden procedures or practices. One has to use the intellect and wisdom
to carry out any action, rather as an act of divine worship without anticipating any outcome
with pure mind and heart. In fact this has to be ab initio practice to everyone. In order
to achieve this, one has to exercise good control over the senses and mind. If one
practices of good deeds or good service, etc. one will be easily able to lay the foundation
for spiritual practices. If one is not able to carry out good deeds, it becomes difficult for
him/her to look for better result as his/her mind will be always loitering with worry and would
not be able to reach the steps of devotion to God and realization of the Supreme Power.
One has to regularly practice of Pranayama . Similarly, if one does Japam and Meditation
or Dynam daily, naturally the mind would get relieved from all stresses and strains. Further,
one can worship any God of his/her choice with good deeds. One can chant
any mantra or sloka that is preferred by him/her and repeat the same sitting in front
of the image of the chosen God/Goddess. In the process, such good deeds, bring
mental peace to a person which enables a person to purify one’s mind and concentrate
on the worship. Generally, a selfless activity, without anticipating any favour or good
result, can be regarded as the highest and best in one's life. We notice plenty of
good sayings or quotes in our scriptures. By merely reading them one will not become
religious unless one makes an effort to practice it religiously. In fact, one must
must practice the virtues that are mentioned in such scriptures in order to acquire
love towards God. If a person adopts a proper spiritual approach, he/she will automatically
change and the behaviour of the person will also change. If one can spare or
take out some time every day for contemplation on the Godly image or do Sadhana,
it will go a long way in one's life. It is very difficult to take birth as a human being.
God has given an opportunity to be born as a human being mainly because of our
good deeds in the earlier generation and this is really a bonus to us. Therefore one
has to take a leap forward and concentrate to do all divine activities so as to be
in HIS vicinity.

A merchant was once brought before a magistrate for selling adulterated ghee (clarified butter). Judgment was pronounced and as a punishment he was asked to either consume the entire quantity of the foul ghee or receive 20 whips or pay a fine of 100 gold coins. He preferred the ghee and started drinking the stuff a little bit, but finding the smell unbearable, he then chose the stripes. He received a few but could not stand any more. So finally he pleaded with the magistrate to let him go with the fine and paid his dues. If only he had opted for this initially, he could have avoided the foul drink and the excruciating pain. By swaying in his decision, he had to taste the wreck and the rod. So too, most people do not opt for God in the beginning when grief overpowers them. They do not recognize the inevitability but eventually come to God, sooner or later. Make your choices wisely.

One night while bhajan was going on as usual in the prayer hall at Prasanthi Nilayam. I happened to sit near the throne of the Lord. But He was not present at the moment, in the form we know.
A great light dawned upon my mind. What sublime happiness and peace, of the nature of bliss, I enjoyed while it lasted! It lasted only for one hour, if I well remember. Because of the new, sudden and unexpected nature of the impact, I could not endure the elevated state of mind I was in, longer. Undoubtedly it was the experience of the highest spiritual order. But it was so overwhelming that I was afraid of losing all sense of the world in which I live and to which I was deeply attached. It was this fear of losing what, in fact, I do not possess but still imagine that I possess, of losing what I do not enjoy in this illusive and deceptive world of sense perception, that caused me to take a false and unhappy step at that critical juncture of my life. What a shame! I do confess now that instead of, availing myself of the great opportunity to grasp what is real, I prayed to the Lord, at that fateful hour, to relieve me of His grace! The reason for this fall is the existence in me of unfulfilled earthly desires and aspirations. This clearly shows how, in the absence of self-renunciation, I was not fit for the spiritual elevation I enjoyed.
After some time Swami came to one of the rooms of the Prasanthi Nilayam colony where I stayed and told me about the conversation that took place between Ravana and his wife regarding Sita when she was kept in Ashoka Vatika. Ravana’s wife, knowing that her husband can metamorphose himself at will into the form of any person, asked him why he was hesitating, in this respect, to adopt the easy method of assuming the form of Rama and make Sita fall into his trap. Ravana told her in reply, that to assume the form of Rama was to get rid of gunas or character traits that were the cause for his present immoderate behaviour! In the absence of these gunas the desire for Sita ceases to exist.
Since then, I was in distress. Fate is sterner than what I thought at first. When I complained of my distress, one day, Baba said that if the sugarcane is not to go dry and its sugar contents are to last for some time, its juice must be extracted in time, after proper crushing and then boiled until it is made into jaggery or sugar.
HE, like a goldsmith, tests our metal and throws it back into the red hot coals of spiritual fire, when not up to the mark, fans into flames, until He sifts the pure from the dross.

If one wants really peace and mental satisfaction, one has to render service to the
needy people irrespective of the caste or community. In fact their satisfaction will be
regarded as a highest prayer. As Baba says, one has to love the people living around
them which will automatically develop a concept of devotion not only towards
people but also towards God. One has to cultivate a habit divine compassion
for all living creatures in this Universe. If we go through the people in our Society,
one can notice that people may not be suffering for want of money or wealth but
would be looking for deep love from kith and kin and also from the neighbours who
are known to them. There is a proverb to say that love and affection towards
people is equivalent to the sun and moon showing affection towards certain flowers.
God only wants our dedicated mind towards HIM when a person prays, as he is very
much aware as one wishes to say to HIM during the prayer. Some may commit
mistakes while chanting slokas or mantras but HE does not take it serious and punish
a person, if the devotee is absolutely sincere while chanting it, because God knows
that the devotee is doing the prayer from his/her heart. HE listens to it without any
differentiation and HE understands the language of love and compassion for all beings.
Thus one has to cultivate a habit of doing prayer with deep faith and affection towards
HIM and also help others both physically and if possible through economic means.
As Baba says one has to be content, grateful to the God whatever happens to a person
as nothing can happen against HIS desire. One has to recite the Namasmaran with
dedication and do meditation with concentration without any disturbance from the
surrounding area. As we experience pleasures or pain, animals too suffer. Therefore
one should not be cruel towards animals too. They also depend on food just like us.
One has to love the animals and protect them to the extent possible when they are
in trouble.

Cleanse the heart with the water of love and the detergents of prayer and contrition, so that the stains of desire will be removed. Then God will pour His Grace into it. If you yearn for God, you should give up attachment to the external world and to the body (Loka bhranthi and Deha bhranthi). There is no use trying to put one foot in one boat and another in a different boat. You may have been a spiritual aspirant for 20 or 25 years, but if you worry more about physical needs and comforts than meditation and spiritual progress, then the years of practice is of no value, as there has been no progress. The waving of the camphor flame (aarti) at the end of the prayer or bhajan session is to remind you that your sensual cravings must be burnt away without leaving any trace behind. You must offer yourself completely to God, to be merged in His Glory.

A question always arises as to how to achieve enlightenment. It is the spiritual activities makes
one to understand it. It allows a person to understand the realization of the supreme power.
Practicing spiritual activities regularly with dedication may lead a person towards spiritual path.
May be one has to adopt a method taking the guide of the Maharishis and Puranas. For example
Ramana Maharshi attained liberation at age of 16 owing to his continuous visits to Meenakshi
Amman Temple in Madurai as a result of his deep bhakti towards Goddess. It appears he had
a life changing experience. He spontaneously initiated a process of self-enquiry that culminated
in his own permanent awakening. Normally we notice people practice meditation and also practice
spiritual activities over the entire life span but unable to reach an enlightenment status owing to
non-concentration and dedicated act. While some attain it much faster with little mediation.
By going through our puranas and spiritual books it is felt that the spiritual transformation takes
places when the Divine consciousness enters the mind, vital body, and physical body, and replaces
their consciousness with its own. A person who is able to obtain mastery over his mind
can be termed as an enlightened person and who is always at peace no matter what changes
that take place around him/her. Sometimes, some people mistake them and talk in a different
way as if that person has become a Sanyasi or disinterested in the life, etc. Therefore, as
Baba says one has to do meditation, prayer, etc with concentration on the Supreme Power forgetting
as to what is happening around a person.

Only yesterday I was thinking that all the talk on Sattva and who is and who is not and how do we really know our spiritual progress in the sense there in no equipment which we can measure any spiritual progress or our gunas too.
So none of us can actually for 100% even know about anything in ourselves or anyone else.

And today I have my answer:

What is a barometer to measure our spiritual progress? Bhagawan sets the benchmark and gives us clear guidance today.

Cleanse the heart with the water of love and the detergents of prayer and contrition, so that the stains of desire will be removed. Then God will pour His Grace into it. If you yearn for God, you should give up attachment to the external world and to the body (Loka bhranthi and Deha bhranthi). The waving of the camphor flame (aarti) at the end of the prayer or bhajan session is to remind you that your sensual cravings must be burnt away without leaving any trace behind. You must offer yourself completely to God, to be merged in His Glory.

Every one hears often from people that they are unable to control the mind and
not able to concentrate either on bhakthi marg or devotional/spiritual activities, etc.
It is because the mind of that person transacts all the activities whether good or bad.
Thus, it becomes the mental actions which leads to the real or actual actions of
that person. Sometimes, the person is carried away by the mental actions and
performs the task knowingly or unknowingly. But generally one defines that
the action of the mind are only the actual effect of the mind and indeed the actions
and not relevant to the body as such. Suppose if the mind is turned to a particular
thought process and continues in it, one can notice a definite vibration of that in
him or her. For example, if one keep starts listening daily for sometime through the
record player "Om Nama Sivaya", automatically, the vibration makes an effect in
the mind of the person and he/she always starts thinking of good things. This not
only brings vibration in the mental structure of the person but also transmits it
to the physical body of that person. It is that thought prone-activity causes
the changes. Soon, the body follows the mindthoughts, sentiments, modes and
emotions, which indirectly produces the strong impressions on the face of that
person. There is a proverb, agathin azhagu mugathil therium. The face is just like
an notice board wherein one can notice what is going on in one's inside of the mind.
Because, one can hardly hide the thoughts and feelings in the face. Sometimes
one may feel that he/she has hidden the thoughts in secret without letting it
out if something unusual happens. Feelings/thoughts of lust, greed, jealousy, anger,
revenge, hatred, etc., immediately produces the impressions on the face
of a person. Therefore, it is said that face is a sincere record player and
rather a sensitive registering apparatus to register just like a computer
and records all the thoughts that are running in one's mind. One can also
say that the face is a polished shining mirror to ventilate the nature of the mind
and its details at a particular time or period. Therefore, the mind has to be
controlled and trained in the spiritual path through yoga, meditation, worship,
prayer, namasmaran, etc.

If a person wants to attain the bliss of the God, one has to be very firm in
one's own efforts and is not to be worried or discouraged with the ups and downs
in life that he/she may come across. No doubt, this is unavoidable. For example,
a child before tries to walk, falls number of times and even sometimes get injured.
Like that in life one may have to welcome such ones not worried about it. In fact,
sometimes, the actual truth is that the failures enables us to learn some great
lessons in life. In the process, failures & ups/downs make a person to be more agile
and alert, besides makes one to be more of cognizance to further intensify the efforts
with full inspiration. It also paves the way to attain humility, compassion and ability
to forgive others, if situation so warrants. Failures give us an opportunity to
reform one's in-born imperfections, if any, with a view to seeking perfection.
Mind produces thought process in everyone. The mind makes the sense organs
to function. So, by raising the vision of the mind and engaging the mind in good
direction or towards the spiritual path, it can enable the flower of God to blosson
in one's own mind or heart. Mind as such cannot be straight away uplifted to a
higher vision unless the motivational force, which functioning in it are completely
purified and controlled. Meditation or Worship only can help one to concentrate
on God, which enables one to attain the grace of the God. Some people do
abishegam, pooja, etc to invoke HIM to attain HIS grace with sincerity and earnestness
and selfless act through dedicated regular service of worship. One has to completely
negate the ego, if any through absolute surrender, and once this is achieved,
one can easily attain the bliss of the Supreme Power and can dwell in the divine nature.
