One need not have to become a Saint, but one can try to keep away
from egoism, likes and dislikes, selfishness, lust for comforts, greed or
anger, etc. In fact, one has to frame the mind to have a balanced
stage with a vision to have mercy towards the needy and tolerance
to forbear the troubles or problems, observance of righteousness, and
so on. To attain the divine power or spiritual wealth one has to practice
all spiritual activities without giving any gap and break incessantly while
maintaining rigid concentration and attention on the Supreme Power.
Spiritual power is equivalent to an ocean and it is very difficult to swim
in it without any practice. One need not have to go to Himalayas
like the Saints of yester years. One need to have pure mind as it is
quite difficult to achieve in a Samsara, that does not mean one has
to leave the family life and keep away from family members. No one
can stop births and deaths or troubles or problems in life like joy and
sorrow come in a cycle. One need to have an intelligent and sincere
Satsanga or association with those people who observe the spiritual
activities in a true spirit. The Supreme Power will love us, if we love
HIM with full attention of our Heart and Mind.

Our humblest Gratitude to YOU, dearest Swami, for coming into our life and making us Yours.
You are our Father, our Guru, our Lord and our Best Friend.

Offer your heart and your entire life to the Lord. Then your adoration will transform and transmute you so fast and completely, that you and He will be merged into One. You will be transformed, as a rock is transformed by the sculptor into an idol, deserving the worship of generations of sincere people. In the process you will have to bear many a hammer stroke, many a chisel-wound, for He is the sculptor. He is but releasing you from petrification! Do not defile time or waste this life and body seeking paltry ends. This life is part of the long pilgrimage you entered when you were born, which may not end even when you die. Never forget this fact. Be pure, alert and humble as pilgrims are. Treasure the good things and the truths you see and hear. Use them as props and promptings for further stages of your soul’s journey.

In life one has to follow certain guidelines like Ahimsa, truthfulness and honesty, remembering
the divine power and practicing daily the spiritual activities, non-possessiveness, and must follow
certain self-guidelines for attaining the bliss of the Supreme Power. Further, one has to
acquire purity of body and mind, contentment in life, training the senses and controlling them, self-study
of certain scriptures if not able to participate in the Satsang, identifying the right step to control
negative attitude and emotional feelings. Thinking of misery and sufferings often is not going to take
a person to the salvation in the life. One should never hurt others or cause any sort of ill-feeling or
pain. If one is steadfast in the prayer or worship or meditation etc. daily, one can develop cheerfulness,
pleasantness, control of indriyas or senses besides achieving an experience of consciousness of the
Supreme Power. Mastery over the senses can certainly bring self realization.

The second Mahasamadhi day, the most auspicious day when Swami decided to reside in His COSMIC FORM in the heart of our hearts was celebrated in a grand way in Prasanthi Nilayam. This day in the year 2011 was full of agony, sadness, disappointment and hopelessness. Exactly two years later, even though there was still that sadness some where in the heart, but we all are very much experiencing Swami within, Life has been very beautiful as we can communicate with Him very easily, So many miracles are just re-assuring that He is very much here and gone no where..
As He has said many a times, "Do My work and I will do your work much better than you would have done by yourself". As Swami every word is SATHYA, we have experienced this many times in our lives and more so after Swami's Mahasamadhi.

Puttaparthi woke up with beautiful memories of the HOLY SON of this blessed soil. It is a hair raising experience just to imagine Swami taking birth in Puttaparthi and sharing all the divine love over the years..

As I entered the Ganesh Gate this morning, the same thought came across the mind. I was imagining, over the years, how many millions would have entered this gate, which is verily the GATES OF HEAVEN, it is every one's dream to enter the gates of this heaven on earth every day..Every sadness of yours, every agony of yours is just vanished as soon as you enter this gate.
I remember one time in darshan, there was this western devotee who had a chance to speak to Swami when Swami came walking. This devotee, like any of us, was putting forth all his problems, his problems seemed to be like a perennial river. Swami: My parents are giving me problem, my children don't listen to me, my work is a problem, my boss is a bigger problem, my neighbors are giving me more problem bla.. bla...

Mean while Swami was reaching out to collect letters from other devotees, while He seemed to be giving a patient hearing to this devotee,When the devotee paused to take a deep breath, Swami looked at him and with a very mischievous smile said, "Ask your mind to shut up" and walked away..

As i was seated very close by to this devotee, i was very sure that Swami actually said those words and to me it was bit funny. I thought, what did Swami say? Is this how God answers? Only after few years that i understood how true Swami was.. Every problem of ours starts with the mind. Swami always said, "Master the mind and be a Master Mind", Don't become slave to your mind rather make it your slave...

CELEBRATE AUSPICIOUS PAWAN PUTRA HANUMAN JAYANTI

485475_10151437371623721_1674924704_n.jpg

" Here the young people should particularly understand the implicit manner in which Hanuman obeyed Rama's orders. Hanuman's devotion and Hanuman's faith have helped him greatly to recognize the desire on the part of the master. Along with devotion and faith, Hanuman had great confidence in his own self. If one ha no self-confidence, one will not be able to achieve much although he has faith and devotion. One may have confidence in one's own self; but if he has no devotion and faith, that too will not help him. Devotion and self-confidence are like the negative and positive. It is the combination of these two that will enable us to fulfill our sacred thought.

Here, because Hanuman had the divine notion in his heart and the self-confidence, he could have the vision of Rama, the Lord, everywhere he went. When any order was given to Hanuman, he never questioned whether he has the strength or the capacity to fulfill the task. He had the firm faith that the very orders of Rama will give him the necessary strength to fulfill those orders

Guru Vandana and Maha Poornahuthi…

Maha Poornahuthi was offered into the sacrificial fire of the the 3-day Vishwa Shanthi Loka Kalyana Homam in the immediate Divine Presence of Beloved Bhagawan at 0900 hrs. this morning here in Prasanthi Nilayam.

24 April 2013, marks the 2 year completion of the fateful day in April 2011, when Beloved Bhagawan chose to withdraw from the public view.

sathyasaiaradhana_24morning_1.jpg

Commemorating the sanctity of the occasion, second year in succession, Sri Sathya Sai Aradhana Mahotsavam is being organised for the past three days.

The third and final day’s proceedings began at 0545 hrs. with Vedic incantations followed by Sudarshana Homam, that lasted for two hours, until 0800 hrs.

Guru Vandana, a musical offering, by the students that followed had some of the ever green numbers often heard in His immediate presence, enough to evoke nostalgic memoirs of the golden past. The songs were: Om Gam Ganapathaye Namo Namah:, Sai Rama Smaranam Sai Roopa Dhyanam…, a Qawwali, Tere Ghar Par Aaye Hey Hum…, Guru Brahma Neevey…Param Jyothi Neevey…, Idhey Idhey Sathya Sai Divya Prabhavam…Prema Pravaham…, Thuu Pyaar Ka Sagar Hey…, etc…

sathyasaiaradhana_24morning_2.jpg

Bhagawan’s Divine discourse followed next, played on the public address system. All spiritual disciplines render some merits, but the Ultimate Truth lies in knowing the reality behind our existence, I Am I, said Bhagawan, exhorting the devotees to work to know the Real I. Bhagawan’s discourse was revolved around the Atma Principle and Love…the most essential ingredient of human life. Bhagawan concluded His Divine discourse singing two bhajans, Bhaja Govindam…Bhaja Govindam followed by Preme Muditha Manasey Kaho…

sathyasaiaradhana_24morning_4.jpg

Maha Poornahuthi for the Vishwa Shanthi Loka Kalyana Homam followed next. Even as bhajans by the students commenced, priests went around the Sai Kulwant Hall sprinkling sanctified water, partaking the blessings of the three-day Vishwa Shanthi Homam.

Laddu Prasadam was distributed to the entire audience. Mangala Arathi was offered at 0950 hrs, marking the culmination of the morning proceedings.

sathyasaiaradhana_24morning_5.jpg

As is the tradition set last year, Maha Narayana Seva was organised for the poor and downtrodden at the Sri Sathya Sai Hill View Stadium, serving clothing and food for thousands. Thousands of devotees from the near by villages thronged the venue well in advance of the scheduled hour to receive the love offering from Bhagawan. Senior Trust Members and officials from Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, Andhra Minister Mrs J Geeta Reddy, Puttaparthi MLA Pallela Raghunatha Reddy etc. were present at the venue, participating in the ‘Yajna’.

sathyasaiaradhana_24morning_6.jpg

Interestingly, the sweltering summer and high temperature gave way to a cool and cloudy set up in the morning with rain clouds prevailing over the morning Sun.

All the five elements have been created by the Will of the Supreme. They have to be used with reverential care and vigilant discrimination. Reckless use of any of them will only rebound on you with tremendous harm. External nature has to be handled with caution and awe. So too, handle your inner 'nature,' your internal instruments! While the eye, the ear and the nose serve as instruments of knowledge about one particular characteristic (form, sound or smell) of Nature, the tongue makes itself available for two purposes: to judge taste and to communicate. So you must control the tongue with double care, since it can harm you physically and mentally. Without the control of the senses, spiritual practices (sadhana) are ineffective. If the senses are given full sway, it is like storing water in leaky pot. Pathanjali (the celebrated author of the Yogasuthras) said that if tongue is conquered, victory is yours.

- Divine Discourse, Nov 23, 1968

One get adequate spiritual knowledge in joining a Satsang in the right perspective besides fostering
devotion. Above all, one would be able to enjoy the overwhelming bliss from the divine enveloped
atmosphere because of dedicated spiritual activities. Meditations with sincere faith facilitates
conducive atmosphere towards progress on the spiritual path. One should not be impatient or
get discouraged for sitting in meditations for longer spells, if required, to obtain positive results.
To be precises, all the senses that one has been empowered with by the Supreme Power are
for their legitimate uses only, and if one exceeds the limit, it turns into sufferings or problems.
Therefore, the person who desires to practice the senses for bringing it under control, the sense
of speech also plays a vital role. To acquire divine wisdom and intelligence, one should not have
disturbed mind. Every thought, action or deeds is responsible for fostering devotion. Self-restraint
and self-control will be helpful for spiritual progress. Desire is the root cause for all disturbances
and sufferings. Attitude of one's mind too plays a key role in spiritual progress. Those who are
earnest, sincere and devoted always obtain positive results early. Every moment one gets
opportunity for practicing spiritual activities. The tongue is responsible for fostering friendship
as well as enmity. One has to keep the tongue under control. Chanting of the Divine Nama is very
essential and for that the tongue plays the key role. Everyone should have a compassionate heart
and sweet tongue so as to maintain good relationship between friends and relatives besides cohesion
amongst the members of the Satsang.

A small man makes long, loud boasting in order to centre the spotlight of attention on himself; the great man works quietly, Silently polishing the beacon that it may guide the ship safely into the desired haven.

Do not boast of your scholarship or attainments. Those who conquer states and earn fame in the world are hailed as heroes, no doubt; but those who have conquered the senses are heroes who must be acclaimed as the conquerors of the Universe. Be humble, eager to serve; conserve your speech.

The Theory of evolution

A great Indian artist's impressions of the 10 Avatars - the Dasha Avatar. From top left (anti clockwise) - Matsya, Koorma, Varaha, Narasimha, Vamana, Parashurama, Rama, Balarama, Krishna and KalkiSource: Ravi Verma

Here is what Swami said and though it is not quoted verbatim, it definitely carries His spirit.

“If you see that Avatars, the first was was Matsya or the fish. From the fish came an animal that was amphibious. That was the Koorma or the tortoise. Slowly the amphibian adjusted to land and gave up water completely. The next was the Varaha or the boar, a mammal. Then evolved creatures that were bipedal animals - the oldest ancestors of man. The next Avatar in the series accordingly was Narasimha - half man and half beast. Then came Vamana the dwarf man that we see as Neanderthals and Cro-Magnon men in scientific literature.

Parashurama Avatar represents man while the next Avatar, i.e. Rama represents the Perfect Man! Then came Balarama who was half man and half divine culminating in the ninth which is Krishna - the Poorna Avatar ( an Avatar or descent of the Lord has different attributes and it is only a Poorna Avatar that has all the 16 attributes.)”

Swami stopped at the ninth of the Dashavatara (Ten Avatars). We were all awe struck at this explanation. And Swami had said it so simply and straight. He did not bat an eyelid not conceal any excitement. No wonder He says, “What is Ascharyam (great surprise) for you is Sahajam (natural) for me.” We simply nodded and digested what He said and Swami continued to speak many more treasures.

The evening concluded so wonderfully. And as I walked back, I was pondering on this theory of evolution that Swami had gifted us, which combined in it both the views. I went through the Avatars again, one by one. And then, it struck so suddenly with great might that Swami stopped at the ninth! The tenth, the Kalki Avatar is something that is always attributed to Swami by the devotees. If we were fish at the beginning of our evolution and are men today, midway through our cycle, then our ultimate goal is to be Him! We cannot rest till we reach that objective. Whether creation is an intelligently designed evolution or an intelligently evolving design does not matter. What matters is that we evolve to our ultimate destiny - Godhood!

Swami’s sweet voice echoed -

You and me are one. I am God. You are God too. The only difference is that while I am aware of it, you are not!” No wonder it is said that the Descent of God is for the Ascent of Man!

When the One manifests as Nature composed of the five Elements, do not imagine that its value is affected thereby. When a rupee is changed into ten paise coins, its value is not decreased at all. So too, see the Nature as the Supreme One with many manifestations, not as multiplicity of sense-impressions and attractions. Wherever your eye turns, whatever your ears hear, your fingers touch, your tongue tastes, your nose smells... take all to be God-filled. Do not allow mere sound, taste, etc. to captivate your senses. Practice to see the Divine, welcome and accept only such thoughts and feelings and discard the others. Sage Tukaram was once asked how can people keep this monkey-mind controlled from running after sensuous pleasures, the Sage advised, “Let the monkey mind run, you keep the body with you, do not let it go after the mind”. He encouraged, “Tell the mind, I shall not give you the body as your servant. Then the mind will desist and it can be defeated.”

There is an imperative need to tame the mind and in fact it is the
first and initial step towards meditation to achieve the right goal.
If there is either calamity or problems/troubles in one's life,
he/she gets worried and rather becomes enslaved by thoughts
of fear, stress, pain, etc. These in turn becomes personal self-reflection
and such people behave in unusual way with relatives, neighbours and
friends, etc. During such period, if one has a practice of meditation,
it creates an awareness in the mind leading to peace and calmness.
Besides, one has to make constant effort to bring the mind under control on
the Supreme Power by non-attachment to sensual things. One should avoid
thinking of the past or the future besides not planning to have any immediate
target oriented activities. If one is alone, one has to join the Satsang for spiritually
minded overhauling, as we do for mechanical/electrial items, by doing mantra
chanting, listening to pravachanams, going through spiritual books so as to
get away from that situation. If this is done regularly, the mind gets cleared
with impurities, if any, but one needs steadfast mind or vairagyam with absolute concentration. Food also influences the mind. If one is able to do social
service in a Satsang, can join that and divert the mind. One has to do a
regular practice of meditation with absolute concentration and dedication.
These days one can find lot of Kirtan and Bhajans taking place organized by
different Mandalis, just like Panduranga Bhajan Mandali. One can join that
and participate in such activities so that one would get relief from stress and
mental pain. In Kali Yugam, the easiest method for controlling the mind and
attaining moksha is to do Namasangeerthanam and Bhajans in the glory of
the Supreme Power so that one gets away from unwanted mind provoking issues.

Many clamour for the experience of spiritual bliss, but, few earn it, because they find themselves too weak to reject the clamour of the senses! Practice assiduously the larger programme of controlling the senses. A little enquiry will reveal that the senses are bad masters and very inefficient sources of knowledge; the joy they bring is transitory and fraught with grief. So long as one is dominated by sense pleasure, it cannot be said that his spiritual life has begun. For, the senses rush towards the temporary and the tawdry; thus, they foul the heart. God asks from each of you no other gift, no more valuable offering than the heart He has endowed you with. Give God that heart, as pure as when He gave it to you, full of the nectar of love He filled it with. Your devotion to God is best expressed by achieving the control of the senses.

As Baba says one has to have sense control and also must undertake
spiritual exercises through rigorous training, so as to proceed in the right
spiritual path. This is possible only when one has genuine interest in
self-improvement with the right attitude towards gaining insight into the
area of divine power. Motivation brings in self-improvement but then it
needs a proper Guru. If one wants to enrich the spiritual path firstly
self-awareness is also essential. If that is attained, it enables a person
to come to a grip with a true self-identity. Recently in a discourse,
it was noticed that some were wanting to find answers to certain
cosmic questions and for their own faults or flaws besides the true benefit
of meditation. While some were interested in self-analysis, observing oneself
over a period of time to reach the point of deep inner peace. No doubt
self-purification can easily be achieved through repetition of mantras adhering
spiritual activities/path with positive thinking and dedicated meditation.
A simple and effective ethical life and mind training, self-restraint, guru-devotion
centered, predominate over mind control and meditation based on the
instruction from a guru with rigorous mental discipline can lead a person
in the right direction of spiritual path. Above all this, visualization is a very
important factor.

Just as there is a method to pull down an old building, there is a method to be followed in pulling down the complex structure of your mind. You can definitely achieve success by systematic efforts and become a master of yourself. The ladder must be as tall as the height to which you wish to climb, is it not? So too, your spiritual practice must be carried on till Realization (Sakshathkaram) is gained. The rice in the pot must be well boiled to become soft and tasty. Until that happens, the heat must be on. So too, in the vessel of body, with the water of the senses, boil the rice (mind), until it is cooked soft. The heat is your spiritual practice (Sadhana). Keep your Sadhana on, bright and shining; the jeeva (Individual) will at last become Deva (God).
