Has life any meaning? Or, is it a purposeless sojourn on earth? Are we merely being driven remorselessly, like dumb cattle, from the cradle to the cemetery? And, what is the journey like? It is only through a dark vale of tears, with occasional flashes of what is commonly called happiness. It looks as if we are drawn by an inexorable force; we find limitations binding us from every side. These thoughts naturally torment every thinking mind.

Life is a beginningless and unceasing manifestation of the One and only Truth, Sath-Chith-Ananda. The good and bad, happiness and sorrow, and similar dualities are mere concepts of your mind. You are, in fact and reality, Sath-Chith-Ananda and, not any of these material envelopment, body, mind and intellect. The latter change from moment to moment, but, you are the non-changing entity – the unchanging Witness!

The ego or jiva, which is no other than a thought, but, nevertheless, the root of all other thoughts centering round the nation of `I’ and `mine’ is the cause of all this mischief .

It parades as though it has an independent existence, when in reality it does not and cannot exist apart from the One Truth. Wrong identification by the Jiva or `i feeling’ with the body, the mind and the intellect makes it share the vicissitudes to which the latter, by their very nature, are subjects. If this identification is erased and you feel one with the ceaseless fount of Sath-Chith-Ananda, which is deep down in your own heart, the meaning of life stands revealed. The passing panorama, which we call nature, world, including the ego, is mere appearance, fleeting over the canvas of Truth, of Pure Absolute Consciousness.

I refuse to call any person a naasthika (an atheist). All beings exist as a result of His Will, in accordance with His Plan; no one is beyond His Grace. Everyone has Love towards someone or something and that Love is a spark of the Divine. Everyone has ultimately to base his life on some Truth; that Truth is God. No life can be lived out in complete defiance of Truth; one has to pay heed to Truth and speak the truth to someone in order to make life worth living. Now, that moment is God's moment and at that moment when one utters the truth or loves, or serves, the person is a theist. It is also the responsibility of all pious individuals to demonstrate in and through their lives that piety is not weakness but strength; that it opens up a vast spring of power and that a person with faith in God can overcome obstacles much more easily than one who has not.

The attitude and method of worship, prayer, behaviour, etc. of a devotee
towards the Supreme Power has its own effect. If a person has no faith,
it does not bring any positive result. Faith is very important factor and it is
the primary thing of a devotee. Faithless persons, even if he offers gold to
the Supreme Power, it does not bring the desired effect. For example, abhisheka
is a part of worship. The worship becomes incomplete if it is not done to
Lord Shiva, rather it is called the bathing of the Siva Lingam, may be in temples
or at home. Further, in the case of Lord Siva, Monday is an auspicious day
for worship of Lord Siva. Similarly, the thirteenth day, i.e. Thrayodasi day,
also known as Pradosham day, both after Amavasya and Pournami, are also
considered sacred in Siva Temples. On these days, devotees devotees offer
worship. The water of the abhishekam is considered very sacred. It is said
to bless and bring benefits to the devotees who take it. In fact, it purifies
the heart of a devotee and destroys countless sins. One should consume it
with intense faith and devotion. Therefore, true devotion can bring bliss and
prosperity as Baba Says.

From the Form to the Formless - a Hindi song on Sri Sathya Sai Baba - YouTube

"Why do you bind Sai in the bondage of birth and death? Have you forgotten the Truth that Sai resides in every atom of the Universe?"

That is the rhetoric of this beautiful Hindi song which was composed to mark the 12th Anniversary celebrations of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences on the 20th of January of 2013.

The song outlines the greatest consolation for any devotee that is missing the beautiful form of the Lord in our midst... The rest will be conveyed by the tears of love and joy that will roll down the cheeks.

This song truly is divinely inspired. It had the entire audience in tears when it was first performed for Bhagawan's 87th Birthday celebrations function at Raipur, Chhattisgarh on 23.11.2012. Kudos to the Sai Youth from Bhopal for the composition (Sri.Prasanna Kumar) and soulful rendering of the song along with the well-compiled visual.

The Na Jayate shloka is from the Bhagavad Gita, translations are available for eg.
Bhagavad Gita As It Is, 2: Contents of the Gita Summarized, Text 20.

Rough translation of Hindi lyrics:

Why bind Sai in the bondage of birth and death?

Have you forgotten the truth that Sai is immanent in every atom?

Sai taught that the human form is the embodiment of the absolute,
this body is perishable, but Sai is eternal and immortal.

Lovingly, He taught us that "My Life is My Message".

By following this path of Sathya, let every life become Sai's message.

Then we will have Sai's darshan every moment in the window of our heart.

Have you forgotten the truth that Sai is immanent in every atom?

Why bind Sai in the bondage of birth and death?

How can the Lord of the Universe be bound by Time?

How can we celebrate the birthday of the One who is never born, who is eternal and immortal?

Come, let us implement His teachings in our lives,
let us celebrate His advent by loving all and serving all.

Then, Sai's birthday would be every moment of our lives.

Then we will have Sai's darshan.... (3)
every moment in the window of our heart.

Sai will be our Charioteer and will guide us from within.

Now this life is redeemed by offering it to Sai.

H (HISLOP): What is duty to society?

SAI: Duty is the exercise of your freedom, but in such a way that you do not deny others their freedom. For example, a teacher's freedom to leave the classroom is dependent on his duty to teach the students. A politician's freedom to run for public office is dependant on his ability to serve the people.

H: Is duty to society universal and binding on every person?
SAI: If a man is living on spirit, he has no duty or obligation to society.
H: Living on spirit must be having total faith in God and total dependence on Him?
SAI: Faith in the Divine is single and cannot be gained by reason. Either there is or there is not faith. It can arise through sadhana…Why are people unhappy?
H: Because they are not fully surrendered to God.
SAI: That is overall. But what is the immediate reason? The reason is they do not live in the present. Young people think of the future. Old people think of the past. While you are here, do not think of the world, or the Sai Organization. Be only in the present. Think only of Swami and be happy.

Your blood, your food, your head, and your money - all these are gifts of your parents. You do not receive these gifts directly from God. Young children understand the meanings of the word apple or dog only by seeing their pictures. Similarly, it is only after seeing the parents that one can understand the existence of God. On Saturday..May 6th 1972..The Divine Mother..Easwaramma merged with the Divine Lord and on Thursday..July 20th 1972..Swami inaugurated the `Easwaramma High School..` in Puttaparthi as a fitting Memorial to Mother Easwaramma who had prayed to Swami to provide good education to the simple Village Children.

Easwaramma Day is celebrated in commemorating the anniversary of the passing away of the saintly lady who was blessed to be mother to the Avatar of the Kali age. Swami exhorts all of us His devotees, especially children, to revere the mother as God. Hence, this day is a celebration of the sacred ideal of Motherhood and also called " Mother's Day.

Mother Easwaramma was very fond of children and was one of the pioneers of the Bal Vikas movement. Hence, this day is also celebrated as " Bal Vikas Day.."

In His Ladies Day Discourse in 2001..Bhagawan said the following of the Divine Mother...

The mother of this body was Easwaramma. She was not a scholar. She did not know even alphabets. Yet, she always spoke good things in life. Her heart was filled with compassion. One day she approached Swami and said, "Swami there are so many rich people in this region. Yet, the children of our village have to walk all the way to Bukkapatnam to attend school. My heart grieves to see these little children walk miles. Swami, could you please build a small school in our village?" I replied, "I don't have money!" She immediately removed the gold chain from her neck, gave it to me and said," Swami, please sell it and build a school."

I told her, "Don't be hasty, it is only to test you I said so, I will definitely construct a school." On the following day, the foundation was laid, and within a short period the school building was ready. Then I asked her if she was happy. She did not appear completely satisfied. I asked her, "What else bothers you?" She replied, "Swami, when children fall ill, their mothers carry them all the way to Bukkapatnam for medical treatment and things may go wrong on the way. So please build a small hospital in the village." Thus, she always thought of the welfare and happiness of others. She used to say; "It is not enough if these facilities are available only in our village. They must be available to all the villagers around, and everyone should be happy."

Respect your mother, obey her commands. Give her the utmost importance in human life. There may be a wicked son, but not a wicked mother. It is because of the noble feelings of the mothers that children become virtuous, intelligent, attain exalted positions and earn name and fame. The mother fosters you, nourishes you, knows your choices, preferences and fulfils all your needs. So, be grateful to your mother always. Mother protects and helps her children always, in many ways and even after her death. Never disrespect your mother or disappoint her or hurt her feelings. Try to satisfy her in all respects. Only then will the seed of devotion sprout in you. Everyone should follow the dictum, Mathru Devo bhava (Mother is God) in letter and spirit and receive their mother's love. Also never look down upon women. They are embodiments of Nature and most virtuous. With all the sacred feelings in your heart, respect women and be respected.

ESWARAMMA DAY (MAY 6th 2013)

This morning the scene was shifted to Samadhi Road, which has Swami's parents Samadhi. The road was beautifully decorated just as those good old days of Swami's visit on this holy day. Special floral decorations by the Chosen parents samadhi was just mesmerising..

The immediate family members of Swami along with officials from the ashram and devotees were assembled. The students chanted vedam and some beautiful bhajans on Mother Eswaramma. Looking at the beautifully decorated Samadhi of the Chosen parents, the sweet memories of Swami's visit flashed in the mind. It was in the year 2010, when Swami personally installed these marble statues. Even a Poorna Avatar, showed that respect for His physical parents only to remind us how important are our parents in our lives..

This morning after offering prayers and arathi to the chosen Parents of Mother Sai, sumptuous prasad was served to all the assembled devotees.

All beings have to do actions (Karma), it is an universal inescapable obligation. Some feel that only meritorious acts or sinful acts are entitled to be calledkarma, but your very breathing is karma. There are physical, mental and spiritual karmas and doing each one of these for the good of the Self is called dedication. Do not waste a single moment of your life, for time is the body of God. He is known asKaalaswarupa (of the Form of Time). It is a crime to misuse time or to waste it in idleness. Like the force of gravitation which drags everything down, the pull of sloth (Thamoshakthi) will drag you relentlessly down. So you must be ever on the watch, be ever active.

Swami has mentioned many times that everything happens for a reason. He has given good examples.
Some people don't like if it is raining. If you are driving on a busy freeway and to attend an important meeting then you certainly want the rain to stop. But how about the farmers who are only 20 miles away from you? They need the rain and are praying to God that it rains.

God sees the truth and then acts accordingly. God realizes that a person who is driving on a highway will be delayed for an interview if it keeps pouring. But then he also realizes that a nearby farmer will be lose $10,000 if the rains stop. So God evaluates the situation and determines which party will have the greater impact as a result of the event.

So whatever God does, he does it for a reason. Nothing is coincidental, accidental, or by luck. It happens for our good only.

Everyone has to spend sufficient time and effort to achieve
the desired goal i.e. to attain the Bliss of the Supreme Power
Sometimes one has to sacrifice things in order to be devoted
besides being disciplined enough to stay in the spiritual activities
to be a successful devotee. When one does this regularly
with complete and absolute faith, one can achieve the desired
goal. One has to sincerely try adapt and practice the methods
of spiritual activities without wasting time to nurture one's own
growth in the devotional activities.

Many social workers visit hospitals to do service. Most of the work done, like fanning patients, writing letters for them and singing bhajans, appears mechanical. It is done as that is what is defined as service and done without paying heed to what the patient really needs! That is incorrect. Service must be done with the full cooperation of the mind, gladly, intelligently, and reverentially. The patient should not feel disgusted at the fussiness of the social worker, but indeed look forward to their arrival, as that of someone near and dear! If you do not like one type of service, do not engage in it. Do not burden your mind by the unpleasantness of a task. Work done mechanically is like the flame of an oil-less wick. Your mental enthusiasm is the oil, pour it and the lamp will burn clear and long.

The thirst for worldly goods can never be allayed; trying to satisfy it makes it only more acute. Thirst can never be quenched by drinking salt water, which is the objective world. Human desire is illimitable, without end. It makes you pursue the mirage in the desert, it makes you build castles in the air, it breeds discontent and despair once you succumb to it. But develop thirst (thrishna) for Krishna, and you will discover the cool spring of bliss within you. The name of Krishna makes you strong and steady, it is sweet and sustaining. Whoever has the thirst, Krishna will quench it; whoever calls on Him in the agony of that thirst, Krishna, the rain-cloud, will answer that call and appear.
