Right Conduct (Dharma) is the feet and Realization (Moksha) is the head of every human being. Wealth and Desire (Artha and Kama) are the trunk and the limbs. The tragedy in the present times is that the Head and Feet are ignored while trunk and limbs are reckoned as vital. Enough warning about the tragedy this approach can lead to has been given in the ancient texts. Sanathana Dharma has laid down the rules and regulations for the best possible utilization of life, but for want of teaching, exposition and example, they have been sadly neglected. The neglect of these rules which give real happiness and peace, is like inflicting injuries on oneself. The land may be rich, but, if life is mean, it is deplorable. It does not matter if the standard of life is poor, provided the way of life is pure, full of love and humility, and is led with fear-of-sin and reverence towards elders.

Baba desires that every devotee must observe truth, right conduct,
peace, love, and non-violence as one's curriculum. According to him,
truth is the breath of a person as with no breath, a person is no more
i.e. useless. To be precise, life without truth is useless. One has to
understand that truth is greater than everything and precious, because
it lasts always. Our ancient scriptures contain many valuable information
and truth alone succeeds. It is otherwise said that if truth is observed
there exists dharma. Right conduct is one of the virtues of a person, i.e.
right conduct is the basic code of conduct for everything. Right conduct
makes a person to observe certain obligations and duties in life besides in
deeds, words and behavior, etc. Similarly one must try to attain and
maintain peace of mind always controlling the senses. If this is
achieved, spiritual discipline can be easily earned. Further one has to
sharpen the intellect to the maximum extent possible by joining a
Satsang, repetition of Bhagavan's Nama, say Japam, meditation
exercises like dhynam, bhajans, Namasangeerthanam, etc.

All that I can tell you about the spiritual disciplines have been told often before; the human capacity, nature, and talents are all ancient possessions and so the advice regarding how to use them is also ancient. The only new thing is the directions in which these talents are wasted, and the way one is playing false to one’s own nature. Man is essentially an animal, endowed with viveka (Discrimination). That is why one is not content with the satisfaction of mere animal needs. One feels some void, some deep discontent and some unslaked thirst, for man is a child of Immortality and so feels that death is not and should not be the end. This viveka urges man to discover answers to the problems that haunt him: "Where did I come from, whither am I journeying, which is the journey's end?" To find answers to these questions, the intellect (buddhi) has to be kept sharp and clear.

Intellect plays a key role in a person's life. If a person is able to sharpen
the intellect and accumulate, he becomes the bigger person in handling the
senses in an able and intelligent manner. Once this is achieved, acquisition of
divine inspiration becomes very easy and the inspiration increases. Hence,
picking up as much intellect as possible is advised by going through many
spiritual books and magazines besides Satsang activities. If this is done
regularly, one will eventually find that he/she can attain much more intellect
together with divine spirit. The first thing to keep in mind is that mental Discipline.
If one is unsure of one's activity in life, life becomes useless. In fact, one should
have class room discipline in learning certain things in life, particularly in
spiritual activities.

Come, oh Master, hear my bell calling You
Each day I am eagerly waiting for the hour
To place my flower—offer around Your halo
And sniffle: "Sai-Ram, Sai-Ram, Sai-Ram!"
Known to You as my soul's "Santhosham!"
To feel the pat of Your hand as a loving care;
Your hand, feeding me the fruits, as manna from heaven.

Though I am an earthly creation,
I am different from the human perfection.
I’m trained to kneel at Your Lotus Feet,
To bow my head in humble reverence.
They feed me, they bathe me, they tease me,
But it's the form alone that tastes and feels it all
I see not the shape of You as they do,
Only find all I am within, in THAT of You.

I understand not Your speeches of wisdom,
But their sound reverberates through my being.
For in the Eternal Source of Sound,
The Universal language of Love prevails,
So well understood by man and beast.

Still I have my moods of mockery,
When missing You, too long to the outer eyes,
Or being chained in my freedom, to run out to You;
Then, oh my Master, before Your Glorious Appearance
I droop, my trunk refuses to hold at the garland.

You whisper my name, melodiously, assuring;
And, yielding to the tenderness of Your attention
I lift up the garland in worship to You.
For ages in the past our souls understood;
And as now, you are my Beloved Master.
In ages to come, in form and in spirit,
I shall remain Your devoted servant.
To You I bow down, again and again,
Forever saying: "Sai-Ram, Sai-Ram, Pranam!”

Sri.Sachin Tendulkar loved our Bhagavan Baba with all His heart. It was reported that he wept like a child when He visited Prashanthi Nilayam, to pay his last respects and adoration to his chosen Lord. From that day onwards, he batting skill stated to decline. He is losing his grip on his Cricket bat. How come this decline in his skill?

Sachin please go back to Sai Samadhi in Prashanthi Nilayam the soonest, and get recharged with Divine Grace...We are all praying for you.

We will now recall the plight of Arjuna, as explained by Bhagavan Baba, in Bhagavatha Vahini. Arjuna returns back from Dwaraka with the saddest news of Lord Krishna’s swargarohana. He explains the situation on the last days in Dwaraka, to his brother Dharmaraja. He laments,
“My might and skill had gone with Krishna when He went from here. Or else, how did this misfortune occur of my being a helpless witness of this kidnapping of women and children entrusted to my care?â€

“I peered into the night and found a horde of forest-dwelling nomads rushing upon us with sticks, spears and daggers. They laid hands on the jewels and valuables; they started dragging away the women and binding them hand and foot.
Like a lion whose teeth have been plucked out and whose claws have been sheared, I could not harm those ruffians. I could not string my bow. I attacked them with the arrows in my clasp. Very soon, even the stock of arrows was exhausted. My heart was burning with anger and shame. I became disgusted with my own pusillanimity. I felt as if I was dead. All my efforts were in vain. The greatly blessed 'inexhaustible' receptacle of arrows had failed me, after Vaasudeva had left.â€
“ Every muscle is but a lump of His Love, every bone and cartilage is but a piece of His mercy. Unable to understand this secret, we strutted about, boasting "I achieved this", and "I accomplished this". Now, it has become clear to us that without Him we are but bags of skinâ€.
Of course, the fate of all men is the same. I firmly believe, and hope that Sri. Tendulkar himself may be aware that all his achievements in the field of cricket, was mainly due to best Grace of His chosen Lord, which stood by him in all the games which he had played so far..
With Love Regards, Mumbai Srinivasan

Captain Jagdish Oberoi retired as General Manager, Commercial, Indian Airlines. A devotee of Bhagawan for many years, he settled down in Prasanthi Nilayam after retirement and Bhagawan gave him the opportunity to serve as the Aerodrome Officer in the Sri Sathya Sai Airport, Puttaparthi for many years. A lover of music, Captain Oberoi, used to sing Ghazals, a form of music popular in North India. He was advised by Swami to sing Bhajans. Towards the end of 1981, he developed a severe throat problem. Diagnosis showed it to be throat cancer.

Oberoi came to Bangalore and found that Swami was flying from Bangalore to Hyderabad. Oberoi joined Swami on the flight. Capt. Oberoi describes what happened next:

During the flight, Swami called me and asked me to sit beside Him. When I was seated, Swami asked me about my health. I replied, "Swami is Antaryami , and He knows my problem." Tears came to my eyes; I was moved. Swami wiped my tears and said, "I know, but I want you to tell Me. It will lighten your burden when you talk about it."

I then told Him that the ENT specialist had diagnosed my ailment as throat cancer. Swami called for a glass of drinking water. He then materialized a blackish powder, dropped the powder into the glass, stirred the water with a spoon, and then gave the water to me to drink. The taste was very bitter but I drank it all.

Swami then rubbed the remainder of the black powder on His finger-tips and then on my throat. It was very soothing. The pain disappeared immediately, and the hitherto uncontrollable cough was almost gone!

Swami then asked me to consult Dr. Kameswar in Madras and get a second opinion about my problem. I pleaded that since I was now feeling better, I didn't need to go through another painful physical examination. But, Swami insisted and said, "Apne Swami ka agya palan karo aur second opinion lo
[Listen to the command of your Swami and seek a second opinion]".

Oberoi went back to Madras and consulted Dr. Kameshwar, who after examination confirmed there was no trace of cancer - Swami had already cancelled it.

The world today is suffering more from Rajobuddhi (passionate intellect) than Thamas (inertia). People have violent likes and dislikes. They are carried away by noise, show and propaganda. That is why discrimination has become essential. To reach the goal, Sathwabuddhi (pious intellect) is essential. This intellect will lead you to seek the truth calmly and stick to it, unmindful of the consequences. You might have heard people talk about the miracles; of My 'materialisations', of My fulfilling all your wants, of My curing illnesses. But they are not so important as the Saathwaguna (poised state) I appreciate, promote and instil. In fact, I confer on you the boons of health and prosperity, only so that you might, with greater enthusiasm and less interruption proceed on the path of spiritual practice.

Meaning Of Purnima
"We are celebrating today (15 May 1997) Buddha Purnima or Buddha Jay anti. What does Purnima (full moon) signify? It signifies wholeness. When the mind is filled with love, it achieves fullness. As long as the mind is filled with darkness (evil thoughts), there is no meaning in celebrating Buddha Purnima. Get rid of this darkness." Sai Baba, SS, 6/97, p. 149
Why Buddha Was Called Gautama?
"The name given to Buddha at the time of birth was Sarvaartha Siddha." Sai Baba, SS, 6/97, p. 147

"Buddha's mother Maaya Devi passed away on the seventh day after his birth. Suddhodhana's (Buddha's father) second wife Gautami brought up the child." Sai Bab a, SS, 6/97, p. 147

"Buddha was looked after by his step-mother Gautami. She fostered Buddha with boundless love. To perpetuate the name of his foster mother for the love she bestowed on him, he was called Gautama." Sai Baba, SS. 6/98. p. 150

Buddha Means The Enlightened One

"Many high-souled spiritual leaders like Buddha have shown mankind the path they should follow for reaching the highest goal of life." Sai Baba, SS, 2/98, p. 32

Meaning Of

"Buddam Sharanam Gachhami,

Dharmam Sharnam Gachhami,
Sangham Sharanam Gachhami"

"It means Buddhi (intellect) should follow the path of Dharma. Dharma should be fostered in the society (Sangham). Only then country will prosper. This is also the inner meaning of the word SAI. 'S' denotes 'spiritual change'. 'A' denotes 'association' (social) change. 'I' denotes 'individual change'. Man's mind will become pure and sacred only when these three changes take place." Sai Baba, SS, 7/99. p. 170

The first of these maxims tells you to purify your Buddhi (intellect) by good company. Secondly, you should use your intellect in the service of the society. This will lead you to righteous path." Sai Baba, SS, 6/2000, p. 179
"
Let the Buddhist prayer be your guide. First, take refuge in your intellect ('Buddham Sharanam Gachchaami'). Divert that intellect to the service of the society ('Sangham Sharanam Gachchaami'). Then you will find refuge in Bliss ('Anandam Sharanam Gachchaami'). Sai Baba, SS, 12/96, p. 313

Divine+Lord...+%281%29.jpg

It is the heart that takes you to the goal. So, follow your heart. A pure heart seeks beyond the intellect and gets inspired. Whatever we do will react upon us. If we do good, we shall have happiness and if evil, unhappiness. Within you is the mighty ocean of nectar divine. seek it within you, feel it,, free it. It is the Self; not the body, mind nor intellect. It is neither the desire nor the desiring, and not even the object of desire.

So do unto others as you would like them do unto you; desist from any act in relation to others, which, if done by them will cause you pain. Thus, a kind of reciprocal relationship will grow between you and others and gradually you reach the stage when your heart thrills with joy when others are joyful and shudders in pain when others are sad. This is not the kind of affection towards those who are dear to you or those who are your kith and kin. This sharing of joy and grief is automatic, immediate, and universal. Bhagavan is always with us but we may not be able to feel Him. If the radio set is out of order, can you blame the transmitting tower? No. The radio waves are always in the air. The tuning system is broken, so we were not able to tune in and we blame the tower! This is what happens.

When you become all right, they too will be all right, for you will no longer be aware of them as separate from you. Criticising others, finding fault with them, etc. - all this comes out of egoism. Search for your own faults instead. The faults you see in others are but reflection of your own personality traits. Pay no heed to little worries; attach your mind to the Lord. Then, you will be led onto the company of good people and your talents will be transmuted. Consider everyone as the children of the Lord, as your own brothers and sisters, develop the quality of love and seek always the welfare of humanity. SAIRAM

sai-look.jpg

Swami summoned eleven boys from Hyderabad into the interview room. I was fortunate to be one amongst them. In the interview that lasted for one and a half hours Swami spoke on various topics. This was my cherished chance with Swami. I had the opportunity to put forward my queries to Swami. Here are some excerpts from the interview.

Filled with patriotic fervor, bolstered by Swami Vivekananda’s teachings, I asked a few questions. Swami’s responses to them were inspiring indeed.

Me: Swami, what fortune does the soil of Bharat possess that You (the Divine) bless it by incarnating here time and again?

Swami: I would incarnate here time and again because this land has pure yearning for the divine.

Me: Swami, will we ever have a chance to witness the past glory of Bharat?

Swami: Definitely you all will witness it. (after a little pause)…… All of you may think that India is surviving because of Presidents and Prime ministers, but it is surviving only because of My grace and the divine vibrations sent by the great sages and yogis.

One of the brothers was about to talk to Swami regarding some project and during the process he used the word ‘kashtam’ meaning ‘difficulty’. Immediately Swami responded elaborating on the attitude one requires to render service selflessly.

Swami: “Seva eppudu kashtapadi cheya vaddu, ishtapadi cheyali”, meaning ‘Never render service as an exertion, but do it with liking.' Then He narrated the following anecdote.

Once four youth were watching a small calf stuck in the slushy lake bed. They were eager to see how it would manage to get out. As the calf tried to lift one leg, the other three legs went deeper into the mud. The youths enjoyed the show. Meanwhile a sanyasi came that way. He spotted the calf struggling. Immediately he rushed towards the calf and lifted the calf onto his shoulders and walked back to the bank. The four young men greeted the sanyasi and told him that they had been enjoying the drama and he had come and spoilt the fun. They asked him what had made him do this. The sanyasi said, “Brothers, I didn’t do it out of pity for the calf. Looking at the calf struggle I felt the pain myself and I felt extremely agitated; in order to find relief for myself I ran towards the calf and lifted it onto my shoulders.”

Swami concluded by saying that seva should be done with a feeling of empathy towards the oppressed and the destitute; it is not just displaying superficial pity.
