All investigations associated with the mind are delusions of various sorts. They are subjective. All that people do - seeing, hearing, experiencing and doing, are all mental delusions caused by association with the body. The mind cannot keep still even for a moment, without thinking about something or the other. Hence the mind is dependent on the body. All that the mind experiences, relates to the world that is made of the five elements. The mind sees the world through the eyes, hears through the ears. The mind has no form of its own; it is Maya (delusion). It is desire. It is Nature. It is ignorance (Avidya). Delusion is its very nature. It is extremely difficult to understand the pure and immutable Divine Soul (Atma) through an instrument subject to delusions.

When the senses are brought under control by the mind, the mind itself ceases to function; it disappears as it were. Then man experiences a profound silence. That stillness resulting from the absence of the mind is true Knowledge (Jnana). This knowledge cannot be acquired by intellectual ability or mental agility, nor by following an example. It is sui generis. Consider the ashes which cover a burning charcoal or the moss which covers a sheet of water. The ashes have come from the charcoal. The moss has originated from the water. The cataract that dims the vision of the eye, wherefrom has it come? From the eye itself! When the screen that blinds the vision is removed, the true Self will be seen in its real form. Atma Jnana is not obtainable through books, preceptors or even Paramatma (the Supreme Self). You are yourself the Paramatma, the Jnana, the Atma.

Q: Baba... Which is the quickest way to reach the Goal?
A: There are no short cuts to Truth. The short cut is always long; it merely entices and deceives. There are only two ways that have been discovered by man and taught to man in all ages and all lands. (1) Expand the ego to infinity or (2) reduce it to nothing. The first path is Jnana, where the Jnani says, I am the Universal Truth, I am all This, All this is my mental Image. The second path is Bhakti, where the aspirant says, I am Nothing; God is Everything. In both cases, the ego sense disappears. The bhakta denies himself and places himself ever under the guidance and protection of God.
Q: If it is God that motivates all acts in me, then, whatever I do must be right, isn’t it?
A: Yes. Why do you doubt it? If you are conscious that it is God that acts through you, how can you ever do wrong? You fall into evil only when you forget God and feel that you are the doer. When the light of the God within you is guiding you, you will always walk on the path of Truth and Goodness.
Q: Bhakti is described as Love of God. Tell us, Baba, how to love God and cultivate that Love.
A: Truly speaking, you have no need to love God; nor is God in need of your love. What you have to do is to become aware that God Who is Love and Love alone is seated in your heart and that your thoughts, words and acts must reveal that He is there. His Love must radiate through you; you would then see with Love, speak with Love, hear with Love, give with Love, receive with Love. You would become dynamos of Love.
Q: Should we pray to God to reside in us and radiate Love through us?
A: Prayer is only another word for communicating with that embodiment of Love. It is the channel through which His Power, Light, Glory and Purity flow into you.
Q: Can we pray for specific boons?
A: Yes; but, remember, the fickle mind of man cannot be permanently happy with the material things of the world. The more he gets the more he craves for. Gaining and losing, he involves himself more and more with the senses and the objective world. His vision is fixed on outer not inner values. What he likes at one moment, he starts disliking the next. So, the only boon one should ask for is, "Feed me with Your Grace, so that all wants cease.” Surrender to God's Will; leave everything to Him.
Q: How do we know that we have received Grace?
A: As soon as you receive Grace, your heart becomes free from greed and hatred; you will have no more ill will against anybody. You will be overflowing with love towards all beings. You will experience a rare joy, a unique stream of ecstasy.
Q: What exactly is Grace, Baba?
A: Grace is the Divine Power which reveals itself in us and turns our mind towards God, in all beings. We feel His Presence everywhere and love all beings alike.
Q: If God is Love, why did He create suffering?
A: Suffering draws you nearer to God. It is a sign of His compassion. It is a bitter medicine given to man when he is ill with egoism or ignorance. It clears the mental obstacles in the path of discovery of Truth.
Q: What is Truth? Many have failed to answer this very simple question. Volumes have been written on it but yet the matter has not been made explicit. What, Baba, is Truth?
A: Your own Self is the Truth. All the rest partakes of falsehood, unreality, modifications, change, ephemeralism.

Generally many people are constrained to face problems in life. Sometimes, it
may be in their work or in personal life. Because of that, they find it very
difficult to sort out their social life pattern. In such situations, if one sits in
a place and think himself/herself, though it may not appear to be a senseful
activity, one would be able to arrive at some decisions which are likely to be
hailed because of wise and intelligent processes. For this one has to have a
conscience thinking with confidence. Conscience could be a guide and it
conducts the behaviour and thinking pattern of a person as guided by the Guru
and one has to be steadfast to gain the result till the end. As we all know, life is
not merely a journey of pleasure as it has to face many experiences, which will
have consequences of both sorrow and joy mixed together. As salt becomes
inseparable in a person's food in the day to day life, one has to attempt to try
to achieve certain human values like devotion, dedication, constant namasmaranam,
association with Satsang, etc besides observing truth, love towards mankind
with right conduct, etc.

The holy culture of this ancient land has been spoilt by just one impurity; intolerance of another's success, prosperity or progress. If you cannot help another, at least avoid doing harm or causing pain. That itself is a great service. What right have you to find fault with or to talk evil of another? When you say that nothing can ever happen on earth without His Will, why get annoyed or angry? Your duty is to cleanse yourself and engage in your own inner purification. That endeavor will bring you the cooperation of all good men and you will find strength and joy welling up within you.

It is generally believed that one could get true satisfaction through adherence
of one’s conscience and belief in doing the right thing, rather than doing things right.
If one sticks to the values of Baba's Message, one would achieve the desired benefits.
If a person is conscious of what he/she is doing, it is much easier to practice the
right things in life. But one has to be conscious of every minute and in every situation
when he/she does any thing. May be, sometimes, it becomes difficult to do the right thing
every time and could be a challenging one and one should not get away from it. One
has to be confident and courageous to do things without fears and erase any doubt
of positive result. One has to be sure about the goal one has to achieve. One has to
have a mind to forgive and patient to hear others and has to be together without any
jealousy. This needs perfection and devotion and self-knowledge. If one achieves
self-realization then there will not be a race amongst the human circle.

Being Honest

Swami gives wonderful examples all the time. The following is an example Swami gave about being honest.

SAI BABA.webp

There are two men travelling in a train. One of them has a ticket and other does not. The one who does not have a ticket is, no doubt, enjoying a free ride. The other man having a ticket is poor and so purchase of a ticket was a financial burden on him. But the person without a ticket is always restless. He is always worried, “What if the ticket collector shows up.”
Hence, he cannot sleep comfortably and has a rough, uncomfortable journey. On the other hand, the person who has a valid ticket, though poor enjoys the train ride and sleeps comfortable

[h=2]Swami’s explanation for the Mangala Aarthi[/h]
7407706_f248.jpg

Swami says that the act of doing Aarthi is symbolic of what the devotee prays of the Lord. It inspires the devotee to become like the piece of camphor - be fragrant and spend one’s life burning away energetically to ‘show’ other devotees the face and form of the Lord!

Every moment of one’s life - every thought, word and deed - should be ‘spent’ so that humanity is en’light’ened and is able to visualize the Lord! And at the end of the whole thing, nobody’s attention is on the camphor; it is on the Lord alone because the camphor burns away leaving behind no trace of its existence. But before that happens, it also provides warmth to all the people who have gathered to see the Lord!

Meaning of Aarthi or Arati done by waving camphor at the Lord

Sai Inspires

The mind must become bhakthimaya (saturated with devotion to God). The intelligence must be transformed into Jnana (divine knowledge). The body must be a willing and efficient instrument for the practice of righteousness. Such a life is indeed the crown and glory of humanity. The rest are merely contaminated, contained and caged lives! So sadhana (spiritual endeavours) alone makes life worth while; the rest are like froth which is fake and momentary. Join the company of the good, the striving, the yearning spiritual aspirants and you will soon reach the stage of peace within and harmony without.

You may wonder, ‘How is it that the Atma is present in all?’ When you meditate in solitude on this question, a permanent, unchanging sound arises from the mind. All objects manifest the power of the atom. Every object is composed of atoms. It is the nature of atoms to combine and to separate. But in all human beings there is one unchanging and indivisible divine entity, the Inner Voice. The body undergoes change from infancy to old age, but the Inner Voice remains unchanged. People experience three different states of consciousness in the waking, dreaming and deep sleep states. But the Inner Voice has no change in the gross or subtle states of the body. What is that Voice? It is the divine Inner Voice issuing from the Atma-thathwa (AtmaPrinciple). It is continually declaring: ‘I, I, I..’ - ‘Aham, Aham, Aham’. If we go through the ancient stories and Puranas, one could notice that the
concept of At-ma is the basic one for everything. It is a changeless one. However,
when it gets into the body of a living being, it has a birth and death cycle. By
dedicated devotion and bhakthi, a person's powerful mind could convey the
reactions of at-mic instigation/reactions. A person will not have any movement
unless his/her mind operates just like a computer. Thus within the mind itself,
sometimes investigations take place prior to performance of any activity. Thus
the mind keeps on changing sometimes even in a fraction of moment. That is
why people call the human mind as a monkey. Hence, the action becomes complete
only when the mind accepts that and conveys having prompted by the inner At-ma.
No awareness take place without the permission of At-ma. There is a quote to this
effect stating that the
infant becomes a girl or boy and then man and woman etc,
wherein the Atma prevails.

Sathya Sai Baba and His Students - An Inexplicable Bond - YouTube

For the Students of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning Bhagawan Baba is their divine chancellor. But truly He is their father, mother, mentor, guardian, guru, dearest friend... all rolled into one and much more.

On November 2006 Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam inaugurated the Sri Sathya Sai International Centre for Sports (a state-of-the-art indoor stadium) in Puttaparthi. This is one of the videos made for that occasion.

Q: Baba… Which is the quickest way to reach the Goal?

A
: There are no short cuts to Truth.
