Which country does not have a self-centered view of exceptionalism? Britain, Rome, Greece, Egypt, China (Middle Kingdom), Japan, Saudi Arabia, Iran/Persia? Even our own motherland steeped in daily corruption?
The above statement is an empty truism pointing to fundamental human nature.

Why do you say African Americans look like they brag?
I dont know them much but from what I know some are pretty cool and frank and funny at times.
I think we Indians mistake being frank and humorous for being a brag.
BTW there is one thing African Americans can brag about if they want..after all the saying "once you go black..you never turn back" must be having a deeper significance.

I hope you *really* read posts, because I began my post with "N***a is a very derogatory term for blacks" . It is for the original poster to avoid references to pejoratives.
I think any reference to me is not called for since I do not have to proclaim I'm not racist, my homeys will do that for me.
What's truly galling is the holier-than-thou attitude adopted by some people (even in this forum), and simply advising someone to edit something when that person in actuality is anything but racist. Dragging peoples' names into stuff they have no connection with is not really polite.
Being 'senior' also entails acting senior.
Indian politicians represent a certain large cross section of people who have eroded values,not very honest and partly criminalised. in fact they truly reflect society and definitely represent us as we have voted them in . I am a great follower of indian politicians . pl do not run them down
You have got it all wrong TB boys Have High IQs and their mothers brag about their academic excellance. TB boys themselves are poor at chasing skirts. they cannot even hold on to TB girls. others are taking them away
Krish ji, with all due respect for the Indian politicians, dont you still think they are worse than the general public? I think that is true for politicians throughout the world.

I am forced to tell you a real story. My son was a topper i n every term in CEG and getting a gold medal every term. A certain brahmin girl classmate was getting egged on by her mom to be No1. getting ahead of my son. and get atleast one gold medal . the girl could not achieve this. so the mother got her daughter married to my son. the girl has both my son along with it all the gold madals., the girls mother now boasts how smart her girl is getting a boy with 8 gold medals. true storyDoes it imply that a mom will brag about her daughter even if she is not good at studies??

I agree that America excels in many areas. But interpreting those achievements as America is exceptional is not correct. There are a number of factors that contribute to a country's preeminent position. It is coming together of those factors that puts a country at top.
I am sorry to say that America is bound to lose that top position because I see it is not a country which looks beyond its own interests. Even that is ok but it vigorously pursues policies that are aimed at vitiating any country that it sees as a threat to its position. It is a country that mostly inflicts harmful effects on other countries and that cannot happen for long.
I see so much people coming in defence of Americans when I said they nurture the idea of exceptionalism. I will hold on to that opinion because that is what I was able to read from my experience. I understand that others may have had a different experience or may be unwilling to say the truth because they live in the U.S.
Americans probably think they are exceptional because they have been very creative in many areas. I agree they have been very creative in many areas but to consider themselves exceptional because of that is not justified. They really need to be down to earth. They also need to focus more on their own improvement and lessen their focus on others.
