Actually today I typed and posted in great haste since the available time was sandwiched in between two blood sugar tests viz fasting and P.P.!!! :roll:

Hello All ,as I go through the post VR Mam blood test ,just made me to pen(type) down .pls tell me honestly ,how many of our tb members go through master health check up yearly. mostly it could be official -as physical fitness,to cover for insurance, for airways trip to know the person physical status. I suggest person above 40yrs should start it at once ,as it could (if so ) rule out any medical disturbance present in early stage it self.when we spend few hundreds,thousands for this routine test we can be assure,better to know about ones own health. .these master health check up is the passport of our health.,I recommend (not advice) people to rule out any disturbance many conditions are reversible ,near normal if treated promptly/ early.

I thank Dr.C.Narayani for her pro-active approach. Just to add few more points in complementing....

Indians are very susceptible to diabetes. The rate i think keeps increasing every year. There are some myths about diet -

1. Wheat is not any better than rice. Both are carbo-hydrates, both are equally not very good. Rice ( saadham), idli, dosai, pongal and all the other things made from rice flour..... avoid or drastically reduce them. The same goes to chapathi, parotha etc.

2. Eat as much vegetables as possible. I cook minimum 1 Kg vegetables everyday. My wife mostly eats only vegetables with curd. Once in a week, when my cooking comes out with 'Wow' factor ( in her opinion!), she might consider a cup of low GI Basmathi rice. No chapathi; no bread; no french fries; no potato; very little fruit juice ( no added sugar. Possibly, only freshly squeezed apple with milk).

3. Regular walking. Note - if you feel drowsy or giddiness, excessive pallor, confusion, unsteady.. check your sugar level immediately. That is the indication for low blood sugar levels... indicative of getting diabetes. Similarly, if one feels very lathargy soon after meals, feels like sleping after lunch... check for 'Glucose tolerance test'.

4. Be happy. If you can't change something, don't stress out. Stress is a huge factor to bring diabetes.
 
Hello Raghy Sir ,thanks for your concern .its usually stated in medical field that the three main vital signs to rule out diabetes. 1.POLY URIA2.,POLY PHAGIA ,3.POLYDIPSIA. ie,1.excessive urine out put rather than the usual 2.excessive hunger ,increased appetite. 3.excessive thirst. one should not neglect this vital signs and never go in for self -compromise,I had more water,I skip my food so very hunger,Its a very hot so more thirsty ,even it could be normal as you suspect ,do not miss the bus.one should go in for proper diagnosis with both blood fasting ,then comes PP. these can predict your body status. once its delayed in diagnosis,diabetes can effect any system from head to toe .do not panic just do the proper blood test not that is avaible in your home /medical shop .cos you do not know what food .time you had it.even its positive proper food pattern with few modifications is enough .but moniter it for once in 3 months and file it.

Ref your post # 2088: ' Repulsion' is a more conclusive evidence of magnetism - not 'Attraction'.

When two things repel each other, then you know, both are magnets.
When one thing attracts another, there is always a doubt as to which one
attracted the other.

What's your take on this ?

They come in friendly groups and always on a life time contract (our lives)!

They are thick chums and do not like to part company.

It was a test performed to confirm whether the change in the dosage
of medication is working well and I am happy it does! :)

Apparently I am becoming SWEETER by the day!!! :rolleyes:

While we need A.C for a rotating a motor and for electric magnets :bowl:
we need only D.C for permanent magnets and perpetual attractions! :)

Yes, Cholestrol and diabetes can be kept at bay.

When diabetes is is the primary issue, BP can become a secondary issue. But if BP is the primary issue, then diabetes need not follow. Cholestrol issue is in our hands; what we put in, we see that in our blood stream.

If the BP is the primary issue, then it shows, our body could not maintain 120/80 perfect figures. By taking anti-hypertensive and calcium channel blockers, we actually not only reduce BP, but also reduce blood flow to extremeties. That's why these anti-hypertensive tablets cause erctile disfunctions. So, we have to take a bit of compromise and allow to live with slightly higher BP with regular monitoring ( higher BP will lead to stroke. Consult your doctor first.If there is any family history of stroke, it can be really hard decision). But take blood thinners like Asprin, 100mg per day; they are good. but make sure we have eaten before taking asprin. On any vradham day, don't take asprin. with sensible diet, we can keep diabetes away. Rule of thumb is, eat very less; eat very often.. instead of 3 square meals a day, it can very well be 8 much smaller munchies a day. ( simple rule- do away with your plate. Pick the coffee dabara.... serve in that dabara and eat with a tea spoon. But we have to make sure that small meal is very nutricious, cholestrol free, rich in fibre and reasonably filling too. In between meals, we can follow Sowbagyavathy Renuka's idea of warm water to keep the tummy satiated. Lastly, keep checking for diabetes condition. I am adding a link about the herbals that can be added in our diet in a regular basis -

Indian Herbs and Herbal Drugs Used for the Treatment of Diabetes

( if you have space, grow manathakkali keerai ( மணத்தக்காளி கீரை). It canbe grown in pots. It tastes very good too ( cooked with mung dhal; cooked with tamarind & green chillis; fried with onion; simple boiled, little salt added and taken with curd... many possibilities)

To keep the cholestrol away, consume only HDL ( High Density Lipids). Choose your oil well, use very little oil; only dream about vadai, appalam etc; just give up poori & bhajji. For making Chapathi use butter ( so that we will use very less!). And of course, regular check up to make sure we haven't got in to trouble. ( Most tablets come with side effects and extra strain to the liver. So, it is better to control our food habits than to take tablets).

I know the advantage of several small snacks over
three square ( sleep-inducing) meals a day! :hungry:

I know about the nibblers ( frequent snack eaters)
and the gobblers (kalyaana samaimyal chaatham type) who promptly go to sleep like actor charlie in a Tamil movie. He would fall asleep in front of his plate, even without washing his hands! :)

I have the blessings of all our ancestors along with their diseases.
Three out of four brothers (my father included) suffered from high B.P but only one of those three actually suffered a stroke.

My high B.P started with my second pregnancy way back in 1974.
I keep it under control with drugs and have regular check ups.
Ecospirin 75 is protective coated and when taken after food, does not harm the stomach.

I gave up vratham involving skipping of meals long ago. My vratham is related to mind and is confined to reading/ chanting/ paaraayana.

To the attention of all people like me...

"Coffee kudikkatheengo! Coffee chappidungo!!"

I eat plenty of fibers! In fact I have stopped just short of eating grass :rolleyes:

I don't even dream of fried food, vadas, puris etc. When the children are around I feel like cooking rich food.

What does an old man and his wife need to eat -
