#2104 Dr Narayani Mam, Thank you very much for your inputs. I recently went for my
annual medical check up. My cholesterol levels are currently under control, though good
cholesterol level needs to be improved. Some people think of cost effective factor with
regard to annual medical check stating that medical inflation appears to be significantly
higher than official inflation. But I do not worry about that and I do it regularly. It really
provides me measures, particularly steps towards preventive side, as the age is growing up.

Lovely fetters.

Sweet is the sound of the clatter,

And the non-stop shrill chatter; :blabla:

They love things to clatter, :drum:

Line the living room with litter;

The Greek and Latin they utter,

In speedy talking often stutter;

Their tiny feet are still flatter,

Creating as they run a patter;

You feel tied in love’s fetter,

And never in life felt better!

Why should we have

the GOOD and the BAD :decision:
even in Cholesterol??? :whoo:

As if in anticipation of your complaint, one Tamilian from Massachusetts General Hospital has reported recently ( May 16, 2012) that the so-called 'good' cholesterol may not be 'good' after all! CBS News reports May 17 that "Good" HDL may not protect heart after all 17 May 2012 CBS news

An announcement from Massachusetts General Hospital on 16-May-2012 is copied below:

A new research paper in The Lancet challenges the assumption that raising a person's HDL — the so-called "good cholesterol" — will necessarily lower the risk of a heart attack.

A team led by researchers from the Broad Institute and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) explored naturally occurring genetic variations in humans to test the connection between HDL levels and heart attack. By studying the genes of roughly 170,000 individuals, the team discovered that, when examined together, the 15 HDL-raising variants they tested do not reduce the risk of heart attack.

"It's been assumed that if a patient, or group of patients, did something to cause their HDL levels to go up, then you can safely assume that their risk of heart attack will go down," said senior author Sekar Kathiresan, director of preventive cardiology at MGH, associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, and an associate member of the Broad Institute. "This work fundamentally questions that."

HDL Not so good

My point in posting is to indicate that there is no such thing as 'good' and 'bad' - just moderation in what you eat!
People like Raghy, Narayani and others may have some answers.

By the way, even for diabetes, the general consensus today is that you don’t have to live a hermit’s life.

I will post over a period of time some personal food choices of mine to keep sugar level under control.

To begin with, I find that our tamilian dish item known as Adai is a fantastic snackfood, and even for dinner!

Remember to make it with equal parts of
rice (preferably unpolished, or brown rice) , toor-dhal (துவரம்பருப்பு)
and/or moong-dhal (பயத்தம்பருப்பு) plus Bengal-gram dhal (கடலை பருப்பு).
For chutney, use (கடலை பருப்பு)

In fact, a colleague of mine and his wife who followed the above suggestion, found that it literally brightened
their options for sugar control and life-style!

The idea behind the above recipe is the lowering of the glycemic index for Adai.

Can this be an acceptable Corollary???

By maintaining a HIGH profile a person end up making many enemies!!!

What happens when people find out that a person is NOT

what he has projected to be...:spy:

more friends or more enemies??? :decision:

Seems you got ready to take off sir!!! :)

By keeping a low profile, one 'may' make more friends.

You too do have the answers! :)
I was happy that my GOOD cholesterol value was really good!
Even that small satisfaction has now been :boom:

I have recently observed from a Diabetic patient, to control it, he uses French Bean.
French bean, otherwise known as Kidney bean, it appears, is rich in carbohydrates and
fiber. This keeps the Diabetes under control. Even the juice extracted from this is
supposed to be an excellent remedy for Diabetes.

What about the "pinnadi vara gas problem"???
My husband went to get an ECG taken due to the discomfort after eating adai.
The friendly doctor suggested a treadmill and other allied tests.
He came home after causing me terrible anxiety
plus 3 hours later and minus 3000 Rs.
I stopped making adai after that :fear:

I can NEVER understand how FIBERS can be passed on
though the JUICE of anything at all!
Fibers are supposed to be chakkai and juice is anything but chakkai!

Hello VR Mam ,Very Good Morning .,I am more happy to know the concern about the post2104,05,06 by our VR MAM,RAGHY SIR ,BALU SIR ,GURU SIR.Its actually good when we know about our health, and take at least one step forward for it,as little drops ,make might ocean.few modifications ,is always required. proper time food ,with regular interval ..as known to all ,certain vegetables like those grow under soil are to be the least /avoid.when its about fruits ,if known diabetes ,fruits like citrus ,papaya, pine apple ,gauva,melons- musk, water lime, lemon can be taken frequently. to avoid is banana, jack fruit,MANGOES.chikko- sappota.. a known diabetic person has to limit his/her alcohol intake as it completely disturbs the blood sugar level and leads to further complications. if known diabetes their fluctuations in blood sugar levels ( if above 180-200+,but depends on each person ) can disturb any system ,in dental it is shown as gum pain ,gum abcess ,tooth pain esp.molars-due to bone loss in that region .so a diabetic patient must visit for regular dental review for once in 6 months ,according to their blood sugar values. when neglect it leads to septic condition ,eventually tooth has to be extracted. This is only for my TB to know the medical outcome of a condition .do not panic/worried about the situation .Proper treatment ,maintain the physical health will do wonders.always develop positive thinking ,it will lead to good.

Inferiority

Inferiors revolt in order that they may be equals, :fencing:

and equals that they may be superior. :hat:

Such is the state of mind :whoo:

which creates revolutions.

Dear Tmt VR

We have got used to the concept of ' Good-Enough' ! [ Paravaa Illaai ]

" How is the new restaurant in your area? " Ans: "Paravaa Illai "
" How is the new employee working ? " Ans : " Paravaa Illai "
" How is the new movie ?" Ans : "Paravaa Illai "
" How is your daughter-in-law's cooking ? " Ans " Parvaa Illal "
" How did you do in your exams ?" Ans: " Paravaa Illai "
" How was your vacation? " Ans : " Paravaa Illai"

Somehow, we never tend to say "Good" or "Bad" - it's always a compromise -"Good-Enough".

Now this confusion of Good Cholesterol & Bad Cholesterol - that's only on a personal level.

A " Good Taliban " and a " Bad Taliban " have been identified - now all that we have to do is
to find a "Good-Enough Taliban", to arrive at a compromise to solve the problems of the world.

Yay Yem

I would label the impossible combination of the words

"Good-Enough Taliban" as an oxymoron!

"Thaazhvillai" got changed to "Thevalai" and

later became "paravaaillai".

The Hindi equivalent is "paravaa nahee" showing

how much alike we are in India

In Telugu it is "paravaalethandi!"

Strangely the usage is always NEGATIVE

giving a POSITIVE meaning.

There are terms like paravaa undu,

paravaa hai or parava unthandi!!!

I presume you are referring to flatulence. Intestinal gas is a by-product of digesting certain types of food, or of incomplete digestion. Anything that causes food to be incompletely digested by the stomach and/or small intestine may cause flatulence, due to fermentation by yeast or bacterial microflora, normally or abnormally present in the gastrointestinal tract. Nitrogen is the primary gas, along with carbon dioxide. Any unpleasant odour is due to the presence of sulfur-containing compounds. One of the reasons why our ancestors banned onions and garlic from the meals, in the guise of religious injunctions, is that they figured out empirically that these two contain something that is offensive – science today says that they have high proportions of sulfur-containing compounds which give rise to foul-smelling intestinal gases!! Now, how to avoid gas? While one cannot totally eliminate it, one can try to identify foods that cause excessive gas and limit their consumption.

In reference to the other half of your post, I suppose his system does not tolerate ‘adai’. Of course, there are other things that can contribute to the situation. Did his problem occur even with just one adai? Was the adai made with less or more of the frying oil?

There is also GERD(Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease ) which causes heartburn and acid regurgitation. A burning feeling starts in the chest just behind the breastbone (the sternum) that occurs after eating and can last a few minutes to several hours. There can also be pain in the chest. These symptoms of heartburn can often be mistaken for signs of a heart attack. Pain from heart condition is usually made worse by physical activity, but a heartburn is not usually caused by physical activity. However, if you think you are having a heart attack, or you're not sure, it's important to go to the emergency room immediately, to take an ECG, treadmill and and other allied tests.

I assume the ECG was ok, and that your husband got through the treadmill test successfully. Those 3 hours and 3000 Rupees were the best investment for his health.

Well, there are always individual variations. And one person’s adai could be another person’s peedai!
