Think or sink!

I will finish listening to the marathon expansion of Vishnu sahasra naama
of 180+ hours which got spread over 30 days exactly.
I have formed a few views and have reviews.
They are NOT for discussion or arguement.
They are not for proving/ questioning the supremacy
of one bbhakta over another or even one human over another.
I am capable of both thinking and feeling
(unlike many of the super scholars and
over qualified persons in the world.)
I will voice my opinion to make people rethink
if they are still capable of this rare feat.

The Q, R, S, T of my eye surgery!

Q...Queer vision

The field of vision is now < or = 180 degress.
It feels strange not to have a peripheral vision! :(
I can imagine how a horse would feel with its eye shades on!

R...Reading glass

Reading glass is still necessary for most people - if they still wish to read. Bifocal spectacles for those with astigmatism.

S...Sacred eyes

Sacred eyes since a lot of money has been pumped into them for restoring clear sight. The normal God-given-eye may be misused, put under stress and strain mindlessly but not the man-given-eyes.

T ...Treadmill Test

That which is performed in some clinics, to keep the doctor mentally prepared, to chase the agile and active patient round the operation table, with the loaded needle, should he start to sprint like Mr. Bolt!

Human memory is SHORT lived but I never knew it was SO SHORT lived.

People do not remember the names/ titles of the threads launched by them

which might have got the Brahma's seal and his famous knot

or gone down the drain with the rain without creating even a ripple.

A useful TIP for such Kings and Queens of memory:

Maintaina a log book with the date, the name of the thread

and the section under which it has been launched.

Fate of the thread can be checked as and when it becomes necessary.

Here are three proverbs which will retain their topical interest on any day! :thumb:

185 (a). குப்புற விழுந்தாலும் மீசையில் மண் ஒட்டவில்லை.

185 (b). Pose like an owl after behaving like an ass.

862a. அன்ன நடை நடக்கப் போய் காகம் தன் நடையும் கெட்டது.

862b. Imitation is suicide.

861a. அரிசி உண்டானால் வரிசை உண்டாகும்.

861b. Self sufficiency brings self respect.

Names fascinate me ... since they reflect the personality.

Words chosen fascinate me... since they deliver part of the personality.

Two words used together must have something in common or even oppose.

Both Mottaith thalai and muzhangkaal have smooth polished surfaces.

They can form a pair because of their similarity.

Amaavaasai and Abdul Kaadhar have nothing in common.

They too can form a pair because of their dissimilarity.

How I wish all pairs of words used follow this rule!

The U of my eye surgery!

U...U V Rays

That which is a threat to every part of the body and specially to the eyes.

Outdoor Risk Factors

Anyone who spends time outdoors is at risk for eye problems from UV radiation. Risks of eye damage from UV and HEV exposure change from day to day and depend on a number of factors, including:

  • Geographic location. UV levels are greater in tropical areas near the earth's equator. The farther you are from the equator, the smaller your risk.
  • Altitude. UV levels are greater at higher altitudes.
  • Time of day. UV and HEV levels are greater when the sun is high in the sky, typically from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Setting. UV and HEV levels are greater in wide open spaces, especially when highly reflective surfaces are present, like snow and sand.
  • In fact, UV exposure can nearly double when UV rays are reflected from the snow. UV exposure is less likely in urban settings, where tall buildings shade the streets.
  • Medications. Certain medications, such as tetracycline, sulfa drugs, birth control pills, diuretics and tranquilizers, can increase your body's sensitivity to UV and HEV radiation.

Surprisingly, cloud cover doesn't affect UV levels significantly. Your risk of UV exposure can be quite high even on hazy or overcast days. This is because UV is invisible radiation, not visible light, and can penetrate clouds.

The V of my eye surgery!

Vision restored thanks to the surgery.

Vision does not mean just the ability to see.
It means a lot more than that.

The W of my eye surgey!

W ... Writer.

The young man - with a scarred pupil waiting on the bench to get operated - made me happy by claiming to be writer too. The excitement lasted until he diclosed that he was the writer in a chit fund company.

Coimbatore and Chit fund frauds are inseperable. The only warning I got from all my friends and well wishers when we decided to settle down in Coimbatore was "Beware of the chit funds - however long standing or reputed!"

Thank you for the impressive traffic to the six threads
which I fondly called as the Blast form the Past. :pray2:

I will give some more useful links in two sets, spaced one week in between,
to keep you busy during those three weeks when I will chill out of the forum. :)

The X, Y, Z of my eye surgery!

X...Xcitement

The excitement after knowing that the lens has got seated properly and there is no punctured blood vessel or allergy due to the use of the eye drops.

Y... Yellow coated IOL

The cornea absorbs light with a wavelength below 295 nm and the crystalline lens absorbs light with a wavelength below 400 nm.

Therefore, the human retina is protected from short-wavelength light, automatically.

After cataract surgery with the implantation of a clear intraocular lens (IOL), the retina is now exposed to short-wavelength light.

Consequently, yellow intraocular lens has emerged as a blue blocker. From recent studies, it has been revealed that blue-light filtering IOLs may have protective effects against exudative age related macular degeneration

Z...Zorro's mask or eye shade for protecting the eyes for the first few days after the surgery when dozing off to the ZZZZ land!

The popular word used for oneself is "adiyen"

It just means "I" and nothing more than that.

Instead of saying "naan" as we all do they say Adiyen.

If anyone thinks it carrys the bundle of humility along with it

then the person is completely mistaken and deluded.

I have reasons for this observation.

I shall give them one by one.

The main gospel of Bhagavat Gits is "sarvathra sama dharsanam"
The beautiful picture used to illustrate this concept shows
a person seeing Lord Krishna in everything around him...
in the grass, in the trees, in the birds, animals and fellow human beings.
BUT it has to be ONLY Krishna and not God in any other form! WHY???
Because ktishna is the only God.

GOD is the sum total of the Universal Consciousness, the Universal Knowledge, and the Universal Happiness.
That is why God is neither a man nor a women nor an enuch.
That is why God is Omni Present, Omni Potent and Omniscient.
We can't imagine anything without a form or a name
since we are generally programmed in that manner.
So we add attributes, guNas, forms, names and find it easier to worship
the nameless, formless, unlimited pure energy which God really is.

Simple...if all forms are included the artist wont be able to fit the whole Hindu Pantheon into the picture!LOL

If so, how can uttering the word Srirangam in Vada Venkatam
or Vada Venkatam in Srirangam be considered offensive by some people?
Both these places are sthalams devoted to Vishnu yet why this differentiation?

Lord Rama was either unaware of the fact that he was an avatar of Vishnu or pretended not to know about that - until he was enlightened by Brahma after Rama had killed Ravana.

So Rama cried and lamented when Sita was abducted and roamed in despair in the forest looking for her as a mere mortal would do.

He had worshiped Siva at Rameswaram thereby confering the name of Ramanathan on Siva ( The Lord of Lord Rama )

But it should never be that Vishnu or one of his avatars worhiped Siva.
So Ramanathan is interpreted as "One who has Raman as his Nathan".

So even when Rama is behaving like mere mortal and even when Siva is the personifcation of all asupiciousness and is bestower of Gnaanam and Mukti,
Siva must have had Raman as his Nathan and not the other way!

By the same arguement can we say that
"Rama daasa Hanuman" must mean
"Hanuman who had Rama as his daasan" or
"Rama dhoota Hanuman" as
"Hanuman who had Rama as his dootan"?
Obviously this is sheer unmitigated nonsense. Agreed!
But it shakes the very foundation of the previous interpretation!
