A proverb a day to brighten the day!

92a. Wer nicht vorwärts kommt, kommt rückwärts.
92b. He who does not go forward, goes backwards.

Life is like a non-stop, giant treadmill.
One has to keep on moving forward, to remain in the same spot.
One who does not move forward gets thrown back violently!

Footnotes:-
Wer = he who
nicht = does not
kommt = come
vorwärts = forwards
kommt = comes
rückwärts = backwards

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

93a. Wer zuletzt lacht, lacht am besten.
83b. He who laughs last laughs best.

He who laughs last may be a dull witted person(aka a Tubelight)
In spite of that ( or because of that?) he is supposed to laugh the best.

I would put it this way though....

He who laughs last laughs best - more so
when he does it from a safe distance! :ROFLMAO:

footnotes:-
Wer = he who
lacht = laughs
zuletzt = last
lacht = laughs
am besten = the best

The easiest way to remember many unrelated things
is to relate those random things with one another.

That is the secret behind the sahasranAmas of Deities.
That is the secret behind the success of The Alphabet Song!

That is the success of Venkata kavi's song enlisting all the 63 nAyanmArs
That is the success of this new composition by a fertile young mind.

She has set the names of all the Hastha Mudras ina beautiful dance sequence.
I wonder why no one thought of this before ( including me!)

Enjoy the Names of all the 28 Asamyutha mudras (single handed gestures)
followed by the 23 Samyutha hastha mudras ( double handed gestures).

I remember the names much better if I relate them to some trait seen in the person.
So people get surprised and pleased when I call them by their names after very long intervals.

When 50 different items were paced and we were given 2 minutes to look at them and 2 minutes to recall as many as possible, I would always recall more than the others since I used to remember the in many small groups of 5 items each.

It is far easier to remember the 10 groups and the 5 things in each group which are closely related!

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

94a. Wer alles recht machen
will muss früh aufstehen
94b. He who wants to everything right must get up early.

Living like a Lark ( early to bed and early to rise) has its own advantages.
One hour of Morning time = Several hours of the night time!
Mind is fresh and body is energetic in the morning after a night's rest.

I feel pained when I find people wasting 6 solid hours of morning time by waking up at 11 A.M.
Maybe I should feel happy that it is still A.M and not P.M pf that day!

footnotes:
Wer = he who
will = wants to
machen = do
alles = everything
recht = right
muss = must
aufstehen = get up
früh = early

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

95a. Wie du
dein Bett macht, so magst du darauf schlafen.
95b. As you make your bed, so you like to sleep on it.

If you want to eat well you must either cook or arrange for
good meal
If you want to wear nice clothes, you must buy them or get them made.
As you want to enjoy anything at all so must you
arrange to have them.

{ But Sleep is something which is not 100% under control
We see people sleeping while sitting and sometimes even standing.

When the Goddess of Sleep aka NidhrA Devi decided to embrace you,
you can sleep anywhere, anytime, for any length of time and in any posture!

Needless to say the quality of sleep will depend on
the comfort of the bed and the relaxed posture }

Footnotes:-
Wie = how
du you
macht = make
dein = your
Bett = bed
so = so
du = you
magst = like
schlafen = to sleep
darauf = on it

Internet has many advantages and disadvantages as well.
Remote controlling by parents / partners / spouses is a major disadvantage.

Some parents do not let their children go off the hook, lifelong.
They want to know everything done by their children everyday, including eating-out!

The true aim of any parents is to make their children self sufficient and independent for life.

We have a lot to earn from the animals and birds.
They care for their young ones and protect them endangering their own lives.

But when the young ones grow up and are ready to fend for themselves, the parents just let them go. Only man wants to exercise his influence on the children life long.

We can guide them lifelong, if they value our wisdom and seek our advice,
but we should NEVER try to remote control them.

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

96a. Liebe deinen Nächsten
96b. Love your neighbor.

How many of us really love our neighbors???
Most of us tolerate the neighbor- since there is no other choice.

Loving needs Liking as the first step.
To be liked and loved a neighbor must be friendly

Most neighbors prove to be a pain in the neck or exploit us in a subtle manner.
Footnotes are not needed for this word for word translation.

We display what we are by what we laugh at and find funny and !

#1998a. ஒருவனது நகைச்சுவை மற்றவனுக்குச் சாக்கடை.
#1998b. One man’s fun is another man’s filth.

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

98a. Wiederholung ist die Mutter der Weisheit.
98b.
Repetition is the mother of knowledge.

Before printing was invented people used to learn everything by heart.
Man's brain is no less sophisticated nor lacks the capacity of a computer.
Repetition was the only way to commit things to one's memory.
Knowledge stored in one's memory was available anywhere and at anytime!

Footnotes:-
Wiederholung = repetition
ist = is
die = the
Mutter = mother
der = the
Weisheit = knowledge

Have you ever thought of this?

When the woman causes the thunder storm in the house (as Socrates' wife used to do ) the rain follows in the form of the cold fresh water being poured on the poor man.

When the man in the house throws temper tantrum thunderstorm, the rain follows in the form of the hot salty tears of the unfortunate woman in the house.

Either way rain inevitably follows the thunder!

Men manage to hide themselves behind the newspapers
held in front of their eyes - for hours at a stretch.
How do women manage to hide from the other women???

They enter the kitchen of the bathroom and do not come out!

Which is the COSTLIEST bottle of lemonade in the world???

The one which was got poured accidentally on to a laptop ...ruining it completely!
A
whopping sum in USD had to be spent to bring back to working order.

Moral of the incident....

Never have these three in the same location at any time of the day
as in the story of boatman with a tiger, a goat and a bundle of grass.

1. A naughty 2 year old boy. ( the tiger ?)
2. A full bottle of lemonade. ( the goat?)
3. A hi-fi laptop kept ready for use. ( the grass?)

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

muss der Prophet zum Berg gehen.
99b. If the mountain does not go to the Prophet,
the Prophet must go to the mountain.

der = the

Year 1990 A.D
A ( Brahmin?) boy living abroad says to his parents,
"I love my colleague and want to marry her with your permission"

Year 2000 A.D
A boy living abroad says to his parents,
"I just married my roommate. I am sending you the photos of our wedding"

Year 2010 A.D
A boy living abroad says to his parents,
" I had married my roommate 8 years ago. I will be visiting you with my family next month.
I have a daughter 10 years old and a son 6 years old"

Year 2015 A.D (June 26th)

A boy living abroad says to his parents,
"I just married my long time man-friend. We had to wait very long to get wedded!
But it is worth the wait. You will be happy to learn that I am his wife and he is my wife!"

Year 2035 A.D
A boy living abroad says to his parents,
"I just married an Alien. I hope you would like my spouse!

P.S.
Here an Indian Brahmin had married an American lady four decades ago
(I have no idea as to whether it was with or without his parent's consent!)

He is proud that his son and his girlfriend are 'going steady' for the past 12 years!
Naturally No Grandkids! It is wisdom not to bear children out of wedlock!

The burger he ate so eagerly in one of the gatherings, surprised me!
Since I would not eat even a veggie burger toasted on the same grill!

Another lady, a T Brahmin from T. Nadu says she could not get her daughter
get married even to an American of her own choice.

Wedding means loyalty, commitment and the need to rise a family.
Freedom means liberty to indulge and enjoy without feeling guilty!

This is the current trend of thoughts of Indian boys and girls living here!
No point in lamenting about the break down of Caste System or Kulam or Gothram.

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

100a. Menschen, die zu viel im Leben erwarten, werden enttäuscht
100b. People who expect too much in life get disappointed.

footnotes:
die Menschen = the people
too much = zu viel
im Leben = in life
erwarten = expect
werden = become
enttäuscht = disappointed

Life must be lived with hopes and dreams.
But Life may not turn out to be according to one's hopes and dreams.
So as some wise people say," Always hope for the best and prepare for the worst!"

Isn't wonderful that while men live to differentiate and disapprove of one another in a fast shrinking

world, the new and the fast spreading diseases, in the same fast shrinking world, do not do so.

To them "All men are the same!" The one and only 'samarasam ulaavum idam idhu thaanO'???
