Renu,
If a girl/lady walks around wearing mini skirts or shorts or revealing clothes and still she does not get a stare from a man, then either the man does not know how to "admire" "pleasant looks" or the girl/lady does not really "reveal" anything. Ha Ha Ha .
:boom:

Hellooooooooooooooo........there is a lot of difference between an admiring glance and a lust filled stare ok.

Admiring glances are fine..even females give admiring side glances to sharp dressed men.

But the Sahasranalocana stare is different...it is not a stare and NOT a glance.

If indian politicians pass the anti rape act, even staring will become a non bailable offence. Sharad yadhav, janata dal leader is very much against this clause, as it is against (hu)man nature - how can a boy find a mate to love, if staring is banned?

Eve teasing, voyeurism and marital rape are all important issues in the proposed anti rape bill.

Dear Sarang ji,

Once a particular attire is worn often..even if it is exposing no one really stares or glances becos they have got used to it.

Out here Chinese girls love to wear shorts during shopping and Malay girls almost never do so..so if at any one time a Malay girl is seen wearing shorts many will stare cos they are not used to seeing a Malay girl wearing shorts.

Out here wearing a Saree is considered revealing and some Non Indians do stare at the waist when a saree is worn.
But they might not stare when shorts is worn cos they are used to seeing legs being exposed.

So true. 30 odd years ago, in Melbourne, Australia when my wife was wearing sarees and going to work everyday, her female boss told her (very politely) that she was making people at work very uncomfortable by revealing her midriff. Could she wear something more appropriate for the work place.

It is all in the eyes of the beholder :-)

Dear Sir,

What about showing Thighs, wearing skirts and crossing the legs while sitting, as commonly found in westerners/Ausies - Goras. Do these people never get distracted by this? Just my thoughts on such things in places other than in office.

One Man will say he gets uncomfortable seeing legs, one will say about midriff, one will say about big breasts and hips and one would say that he terribly gets uncomfortable in beaches, finding girls/ladies in bikini. LOL!!

In all, I feel, wearing loose Parda like conventional Muslims would effectively solves all the problems.

But, off course, such an idea will create terrific unrest from other community girls/ladies.

Why should ladies be considered as Sex Object?? A million dollar question!! Accusations on Male Species!!!

LOL!!

Dear Mr. Ravi,

It is not a question of right or wrong. It is a question of what you are used to. If you had grown up in the west you would not see anything vulgar when women wear skirts.

Let me give you an example. When I was growing up in Delhi in the 50's, girls would wear Salwar/Kameez all the time and no would even bother. However when my sister wore the same clothes in Tamilnadu/Chennai people would stare at her on the streets. In fact some "well wishers" would come and advise her to dress properly. Even now when Salwar/Kameeaz has become the standard in Tamilnadu what they wear is very loose compared to what people wear in Delhi or Bombay which are more fitting. It is all based on perspective. Another example: Having lived in the West for so long I am used to wearing shorts during hot days. On my recent visit to Chennai a couple of weeks back, out of habit I was walking around wearing shorts and T-shirt and sunglasses. This invited all kinds of stares and strange looks, especially when I went to a place like Mylapore. In fact my cousin was laughing at this and she was telling me that males in Chennai wear their shorts only when they go for their early morning walk.

When you travel around the world you will see that different places have different dress codes. This is one of the reasons American travelers are considered arrogant around the world because they don't learn the local dress codes when they travel. I am quite sure the region where you currently live has its own dress codes, that someone else may find odd or restricting. It all depends on how ethnocentric one is.

I am very uncomfortable with women wearing a full burkha that even covers their eyes. How then do we know who they are ogling? :)

LOL! Some how Ravi's has the ability to really get to the point when it comes to describing females!

BTW who says women do not like being considered a sex object?

You see there is a difference between sex object and lust object.

Women surely want to be the object of desire of the man or men they fancy.

The only thing is they would not want to be a lust object of the person they do not fancy!LOL

The saree and 'madisAr' saree have be quite often discussed in our forum. IMHO, any dress could be worn in a

modest way and a revealing way! Have you not seen ladies like M S amma, Sushma Swaraj who wear sarees?

Ram's mother was an expert in wearing fully covered 'madisAr' saree. :thumb:

This it so? his is news to me!

In our area many mAmAs come for shopping in shorts and T-shirts!

So West K K Nagar is more advanced than Mylapore! :D

Dear RR ji,

Saree is all about a slender waist..there is where the beauty of a saree lies.

Once women lose their slender waists..they tend to try to hide the spare tires of fat by wrapping the saree to hide the imperfections.

That is where we women go wrong..one should think that "if I want to wear a saree..I better keep fit and trim and maintain a slender waist.

Saree is a good garment to motivate anyone to remain slim.

In fact I have a wedding to attend in June and I have started working out higher intensity to look good in a saree by June.

So saree is the best garment still for motivating a person.

Ref post 310 and 311.

May be wearing shorts is the accepted norm in Chennai now a days. I was there only for a couple of days. May be the stares I was getting could be that I might have looked like a creature from a strange alien planet and not due to my wearing shorts. Who knows?

Dear Kumar ji,

May be you must be looking real good in shorts!
So take all those stares as a compliment.

Very few Indian males have good toned legs..somehow mostly will have skinny legs even though their thighs might be toned.

So for all I know you could give Hugh Jackman a run for his money!

Dear Renu,

You are right! Because those ladies with a slender waist, the saree is now the most revealing dress.

Added to this is the barely-there blouses! As a matter of fact, any revealing dress will look good ONLY

if the lady is trim. But, in Sing. Chennai, many of the barrel-mAmis also wear the see-through sarees

set to low hip. They make me sing to myself 'HippO hippu'!!

Sex object (females) in no time will turn out to be a lust object (females)!! This is universal human truth.

When a female who wish to be a sex object BUT don't want to be a lust object of the person she do not fancy, how can she control and escape the pulsating lust full urge of some men who could fancy her?

YES!! Law and order is there. BUT, when and to what extent the law can come to her rescue and totally revert the physical and mental damage caused to her, when its too late?

Fortunately or unfortunately women now have the courage and intellect to go on a nude protest, stating - "MY BODY MY FREEDOM. I can wish to expose anything to any extent and you MEN have no rights to attack us". Sounds really human and legal!!

dear raji, renu,

i would beg to disagree.

my daughter has a t-shrt bought in madras a few years ago..captioned..the sari, the most socialistic of all garmentss- one size to fit all and can make all look equally elegant.

without doubt, a slim built person, can turn heads in a good sari, but she can do so in any garment. that is an advantage that she has.

but with a sari, a well endowed lady can still look elegant and attractive in a sari, which she might have problems in a form fitting western dress or even in a salwar kameez.

just go to a wedding occassion, and hear the sarak sarak of all the silks rubbing against each other and feel the natural sense of grandeur - looks great irrespective of the size of the persons. no?

LOL! This is not the first time I have heard a TB male talking about the Sarak Sarak sound of silk rubbing against each other.

I am quite sure that Sarak Sarak sound is a "turn" on for some! Ha Ha Ha.

BTW Kunjs...I do not like or wear Silk Sarees mainly becos its not Ahimsa(involves the death of countless silk worms) and secondly it does not hug the body like a chiffon or georgette does.

Silk sarees make people look fuller.

BTW men really have finer sense....and have paid attention well to even actually detect the Sarak Sarak sound.

I have not paid any attention so far to detect any sound when a male in a dhoti walks.

So when I attend any marriage in the future I am going to be all ears and pay close attention to any dhoto clad male and let me hear whether "Sarak Sarak", "Saran Saran" is heard when a male walks.!LOL

Dear Renu,

There are expression in Tamil to describe activities.

madak madak for drinking water;

padak padak for heart beating fast;

minuk minuk for twinkling objects (stars);

paLa paLa for shiny objects;

thaLa thaLa for nice growth and so on.

sara sarakka is special for a silk saree. (K sir gave the special sound effect!)

You can find in many Tamil stories: 'pattup pudavai sara sarakka vandhAL!'

I have noticed that those girls / mAmis who appear 'bhaja gundu' appear just 'gundu' when clad in a saree! :thumb:
