chiffon and georgette,

are a heavy woman's friend. they are thinly textured, and stick to the body. as opposed to pattu sarees, which appear to add girth and body to the person, chiffon makes the wearer look slimmer and more gracious. incidentally, it is also my personal favourite among all sari materials.

nowadays, the beauty and innovation of the blouses are in the rear. you can see an example, in parineetha, with the song, 'hui mein', where vidya's blouse shows off the beauty of her neck and back (and incidentally comes easily off).

in the olden days, the blouses used to change only re sleeves - puffed, short, mid, long, sleeveless. also whether the button is up front or at the back.

today's blouses, can be as simple as a piece of string holding the front together, to elaborate bead and sequin laid paraphernia, costing a few thousand rupees to make. the blouse of today, is as much a fashion statement, as a piece of clothing.

you've come a long way baby!! :)

Rekka, Bushugaru,

You guys are just like my mum :). Shes also very very stylish and loves wearing those type of cholis/ravikai with designs, pattern. I remember when she was younger she would take the trouble draw her favourite pattern be it neck, arms, back and take it to her tailor to get it made and her colleagues would follow it (she used to wear sari daily to work, heels and kannadi valaiyals).

I'm pretty simple. I feel less is more (not clotheswise i do assure you!) I do like some gold jewellery not too chunky and i also loveee crystals and bead of different colours. I currently wear white gold and platinum tiny pieces. I will admit i'm a lazy dresser. Depending on my mood sometimes i don't bother with all the matching stuff. I'm also not into heels preferring comfy flats/slippers or at most kitten heels.

My cholis/ravikkai are conservative. I don't wear too big a neck nor sleeveless nor halters etc. I don't feel its me nor do i feel comfy wearing those. We have to wear what we are comfy in otherwise we become too conscious. The only time i have worn "risque" clothes relatively is when I was clubbing. No more now. No reason to. Been there done that.

My saris are all either silk (kanjeevarams and banarasi) for weddings etc and cottons. My personal preference is cotton ie bengal, ikkat and gadwal. I have some tissue and organza as well. I stay away from chiffons and georgettes because im on the slim side and those make me skinnier than ever. So prefer a starched cotton sari anyday! Someday when i've put on some more weight I would love to try these and thin silks as well as garden sari type. Recently i got one full net sari for the 1st time last year and may wear it this year (everyone here gives me such grief for only favoruing cotton and being so bucolic). Its the first time I will be wearing a sari out of my comfort zone. I also absolutely love puffed sleeves. I think its so cute!

Hey Amala,

I am also thin but I still wear georgettes and chiffons..it hugs body nicely and looks very graceful.
I was smiling reading what you wrote..you come back to Malaysia I will spoil you rotten.
You know if my mum reads what you wrote she will be wishing she had a daughter like you!!!
You know when I was small my mum use to tell me that saree blouses must not be revealing etc and I grew up totally opposite of what she used to tell me.

But when ever she complains about my saree blouses now I will tell her "amma I am not the body..and I will sing [TABLE="width: 85%"]

[TD="width: 93%"]Mano Buddhi Ahankara Chitta Ninaham
Nacha Shrotra Jihve Na Cha Ghrana Netre
Nacha Vyoma Bhoomir Na Tejo Na Vayu
Chidananda Rupa Shivoham Shivoham

And she will get so mad!!!!

BTW you know when I am in Puttaparthi praying you will be shocked to see me cos I will be fully covered even my head i will cover fully.Somehow during prayers at temples I wont even expose my hair.thats the only time I am conservative!!!!

Hey Kunjs..

Not bad yaar..you know lots about women.

Kunjuppu,

I cant stop laughing you know why??Enough times when we see patients who come to us sometime some guys dont wear underwear beneath their jeans.
And when I want to give injections that time they will be shy saying 'doc I am not wearing underwear" and I will say "Its Ok..makes my job easier..nothing to remove prior to injection"

Some women come in to clinic fully covered up in saree and when I check them they wont be wearing underwear and sometimes i hold back the desire to laugh.

Even better are some female patients who even wear their husbands underwear.Seen lots of females who do this and when i ask them why you wearing male underwear they say there is a lot more room.

Amala..listen to Kunjuppu Ok..He is 100% right.

Hats off to your love, care and effection Renuka....Glad to find people like you to patch up any hurt and missunderstandings of members here.. I liked your healthy appoach towards life..

Amala,

All in good humour kanne, don't worry too much.. we all understand that is your choice, but Kunjuppu is only talking about what is today's trend and I can also say it is done with affection, since we all have been talking so much about pretty much about everything.. in fact you guys have been much more than I have..

If this was said by a women, you perhaps would not have taken offense..
Kunjuppu, you too don't be so daring when it comes to your narration of what is to be worn.. it does make one delicate, not in our case.... at this age, nothing shocks me.. in fact, like Renu, I was laughing at your remarks.. :-))

so take it light deary, let it go.. I bet you are a very pretty woman and by the way Renu is right.. you would look great in chiffons and georgettes.. I love those materials too very much.. try it.. and when you take a picture with your Net sari, please post it here, we all would love to see it..

Good luck.

I don't find it funny you as a respected elder whom i consider as my father writing such things about me, a single girl. I'm sorry I'm not Bridget Jones. I'm also sorry that i have a more conservative bone and no doubt many people here may think i lack a sense of humour. Oh well i cannot lie that I'm not extremely disappointed and offended this to coming from my favourite person.

sorry, modified as per noted. apologies..

sorry for the late reply.

i had to step out for a few hours, and hence missed the little storm in the teacup here. otherwise would have responded instantaneously.

i do respect people's sensitivies and was unaware that the particular post could offend.

other member folks, who have quoted the offending post, may please delete it as they please.

btw, one clarification:

i treat (or i wish to think i treat) everyone here regardless of age, or gender, as friends and as my equals. just friends, and no more and no less. i do not wish to attach relationship attributes to any one and i do feel uncomfortable if any one bestows such on me

thank you.

Dear Amala,
I have deleted the portion of the post that I had qouted. So its all Ok now.

take care.

Bushu,

You are right..Amala is a very pretty girl.

These days wife only wants to have her way in most of the households.Onmmany occasions she is liable to go wrong in many decisions. Is thjai a social problem? Refuasal to comply with her wishes means the family peace wrecked.

Respectable members, Greetings.

I am quite surprised to read this opening post. I am further surprised to see 32 pages of discussion in this thread.

Women's desire to have her own way in running the household is quite common. It is very nice too. Most if not all the households presided by women stay happy households. It is always desirable to have a happy woman in the house; otherwise, it can be bad news for everyone.

In my personal experience, all the decisions taken after our discussions and equal participations yielded good, expected, nice results. On several occassions, my wife took the decision to go ahead with more stronger desire, where opposing such ideas could mean friction... such decisions turned out as bonuses! For example, my wife decided to buy a mortgage in a very nice, beautiful, expensive place... but, not so readily accessibleto work though. I didnot resist the decision (we don't have to live there).... Was it a wrong decision?... not really; now I am seriously considering buying one more mortgage to suit my wife's wishes, close to work. (So, the net result would be, additional properties).

Women's nature is to wish and to desire; any man worth the salt should make it happen. That is the secret of winning the women everytime, all the time.

Cheers!

Dear Bushu,
You think a lot like me!!! I like that a lot cos I hardly find anyone like me.
I like your fun loving approach in life.
Got to go now..Just worked out and have to get ready to teach my son religious lessons on Sunday.
On saturdays I help my dad preparing his lessons for the religious classes he takes for kids.So weekends I am a good girl and rest of the week I can be a "Devil" here.

I feel bad when guys talk about under garments! There is no need for such detailed discussion! :pout:
Glad that those posts are deleted! :peace:

Dear friends, A few of the comments by decent ladies are quite subjective, at the same time, objective as well. I for one have read && observed a lot in my life & this forum of Tamil.Brahmins, I always wish that we show unity among us & be really helpful, without animosity. I see that all are well read& let us progress in forming the ultimate opinion that, we are the real good lot, care for the Brahmins&& ii rise to occasion on demand

Perhaps living away from India and in a total different environment where talking about under garments or otherwise is not a tabu might have been the reason for the open writing, I can understand that.. when I was new to US, I used to take offense to anything and almost everything some one would say to me or I hear in general conversations.. but now after over 32 years and of course the age I am in, nothing bothers me.. when we all get together, it is like we are one family, and the gender just drops.. we all discuss a lot of things, but of course not such intimate details, but I know people do discuss a lot of other things I am still shy about, but again, nobody takes offense.. We just laugh it off.. :-))

It is just the place, some of us are at this time in life, I think it is simply that..

I can fully understand the delicacy of such writing and how it does affect a lot of women and men.. :-)

Thank you Bushu, for your message. I wrote my opinion. You have understood it well.

Also, open 'pachchai' talks are too embarrassing, for me!
:dizzy:

You do have a point to a certain extent but when people are close like good friends and even family..sometimes we do sort of tease each other in ways that may seem a bit not so conservative.

My younger brother is somewhat kind of "conservative" and we elder ones keep teasing him sometimes.

I remember when we were kids..both my brothers used to tell each other that they will share what ever they have with each other for life and they used to say they will have even a common wife(I was 10,my elder bro was 14 and younger bro was 8 that time).
They took a pledge hugging each other and I was the witness.

Ok so when all of us grew up..and my younger bro had a girlfriend that time my elder bro and I thought we will tease my younger bro by reminding him of his pledge that he needs to share what he has got.
and he was OMG!!! you elder ones?? How can you guys tell me this??
See its sounds not conservative but its just for fun we tease him.

I feel there is lot more to life in this world and being close gives us the liberty to be a bit "naughty" sometimes.
