Rekka, Bushugaru,
You guys are just like my mum . Shes also very very stylish and loves wearing those type of cholis/ravikai with designs, pattern. I remember when she was younger she would take the trouble draw her favourite pattern be it neck, arms, back and take it to her tailor to get it made and her colleagues would follow it (she used to wear sari daily to work, heels and kannadi valaiyals).
I'm pretty simple. I feel less is more (not clotheswise i do assure you!) I do like some gold jewellery not too chunky and i also loveee crystals and bead of different colours. I currently wear white gold and platinum tiny pieces. I will admit i'm a lazy dresser. Depending on my mood sometimes i don't bother with all the matching stuff. I'm also not into heels preferring comfy flats/slippers or at most kitten heels.
My cholis/ravikkai are conservative. I don't wear too big a neck nor sleeveless nor halters etc. I don't feel its me nor do i feel comfy wearing those. We have to wear what we are comfy in otherwise we become too conscious. The only time i have worn "risque" clothes relatively is when I was clubbing. No more now. No reason to. Been there done that.
My saris are all either silk (kanjeevarams and banarasi) for weddings etc and cottons. My personal preference is cotton ie bengal, ikkat and gadwal. I have some tissue and organza as well. I stay away from chiffons and georgettes because im on the slim side and those make me skinnier than ever. So prefer a starched cotton sari anyday! Someday when i've put on some more weight I would love to try these and thin silks as well as garden sari type. Recently i got one full net sari for the 1st time last year and may wear it this year (everyone here gives me such grief for only favoruing cotton and being so bucolic). Its the first time I will be wearing a sari out of my comfort zone. I also absolutely love puffed sleeves. I think its so cute!
chiffon and georgette,
are a heavy woman's friend. they are thinly textured, and stick to the body. as opposed to pattu sarees, which appear to add girth and body to the person, chiffon makes the wearer look slimmer and more gracious. incidentally, it is also my personal favourite among all sari materials.
nowadays, the beauty and innovation of the blouses are in the rear. you can see an example, in parineetha, with the song, 'hui mein', where vidya's blouse shows off the beauty of her neck and back (and incidentally comes easily off).
in the olden days, the blouses used to change only re sleeves - puffed, short, mid, long, sleeveless. also whether the button is up front or at the back.
today's blouses, can be as simple as a piece of string holding the front together, to elaborate bead and sequin laid paraphernia, costing a few thousand rupees to make. the blouse of today, is as much a fashion statement, as a piece of clothing.
you've come a long way baby!!
renu,
i have heard about women's thing about men's jocks. i have even seen women panty ads, with panties formed just like men's briefs
it must be a woman thing, which they can get away with. just imagine the reverse!! aiyaiyyOOOO!!!!
Dear Amala,
I hope you dont take all the exchange here to heart. We normally tease those who are dear to us.
We all love you.
take care
renu
I don't find it funny you as a respected elder whom i consider as my father writing such things about me, a single girl. I'm sorry I'm not Bridget Jones. I'm also sorry that i have a more conservative bone and no doubt many people here may think i lack a sense of humour. Oh well i cannot lie that I'm not extremely disappointed and offended this to coming from my favourite person.
Amala,
All in good humour kanne, don't worry too much.. we all understand that is your choice, but Kunjuppu is only talking about what is today's trend and I can also say it is done with affection, since we all have been talking so much about pretty much about everything.. in fact you guys have been much more than I have..
If this was said by a women, you perhaps would not have taken offense..
Kunjuppu, you too don't be so daring when it comes to your narration of what is to be worn.. it does make one delicate, not in our case.... at this age, nothing shocks me.. in fact, like Renu, I was laughing at your remarks.. )
so take it light deary, let it go.. I bet you are a very pretty woman and by the way Renu is right.. you would look great in chiffons and georgettes.. I love those materials too very much.. try it.. and when you take a picture with your Net sari, please post it here, we all would love to see it..
Good luck.
love
bushu
These days wife only wants to have her way in most of the households.Onmmany occasions she is liable to go wrong in many decisions. Is thjai a social problem? Refuasal to comply with her wishes means the family peace wrecked.
Dear Bushu,
You think a lot like me!!! I like that a lot cos I hardly find anyone like me.
I like your fun loving approach in life.
Got to go now..Just worked out and have to get ready to teach my son religious lessons on Sunday.
On saturdays I help my dad preparing his lessons for the religious classes he takes for kids.So weekends I am a good girl and rest of the week I can be a "Devil" here.
Perhaps living away from India and in a total different environment where talking about under garments or otherwise is not a tabu might have been the reason for the open writing, I can understand that.. when I was new to US, I used to take offense to anything and almost everything some one would say to me or I hear in general conversations.. but now after over 32 years and of course the age I am in, nothing bothers me.. when we all get together, it is like we are one family, and the gender just drops.. we all discuss a lot of things, but of course not such intimate details, but I know people do discuss a lot of other things I am still shy about, but again, nobody takes offense.. We just laugh it off.. )
It is just the place, some of us are at this time in life, I think it is simply that..
I can fully understand the delicacy of such writing and how it does affect a lot of women and men..
