BHAARAGAV PURAANAM - PART 2
#40a. Gajamukha asuran
The asurA were defeated by the DEvA in a battle and went into hiding. To bring back their happy days, they needed powerful asurA who could win over the DEvA.
MAgathar was doing severe penance. He could give might asurA sons – if an asura kanya could go to him and infatuate him. VibudhA was a beautiful asura kanya. She was selected for this task and sent to the sage MAgathar.
VibudhA did not disturb the penance of MAgathar but sat in front of him like a tapasvini. When MAgathar came out of his penance, he saw two elephants playing amorously. He was aroused by the sight. He then saw the beautiful tapasvini sitting in his front.
He spoke to her thus: “Why do you waste your youth and beauty in doing penance instead of enjoying with your husband?
Vibudha replied, ” I am not yet married. You have stolen my heart. I can’t marry anyone else. So I am waiting for you!”
Her words were sweeter than honey and her restless eyes were prettier than those of a doe. She was more beautiful than Rati Devi and MAgathar could not resist any more. He forgot himself, he forgot his penance and he did not even bother to find out who that beautiful girl really was!
