Saint Thyagaraja says about hypocrites in this song:

theliyalEru raama
raagam:
dhEnukaa

pallavi: teliyalEru rAma bhakti mArgamunu

anupallavi: ilanantaTa tirugucunu galuvarincErE gAni

caraNam:
vEgalEci nITa munigi bhUti bUsi vallanenci veliki shlAganIyulai

bAga paika mArjana lOlulai rEgani tyAgarAja vinuta

Meaning:

O Rama, we do not know the path of devotion! Men in this whole world only roam about in tension all over without being aware of

the path of devotion. They get up at dawn, attend to their ablutions, wear the emblems of creed and count the beads, appearing

to be spiritual and religious, but busy with their working out the strategy for making money by hook or crook.

P.S: Renu! The rAgam rhymes with your name! :)

Dhenuka?? I thought that was a name of a demon??LOL

When my son was small he used to keep on saying:

Renuka
Amma ka
Appa ka

Dear Sravna,

A good liar does not make it known that he/she is a liar...cos if he/she admits that he/she is lying that means he/she has spoken the truth!

A good liar is a person who does not preach that lying is good or lying is bad.

Like a skillful unfaithful wife can have a go with her lover and come home and smile at her husband and say 'I love you honey"....now that is a good liar.

She is surely not going to tell him "you know its good to have an extra marital affair" cos then the cat will be out of the bag.

Liars are very discreet.

Its the ones who are delusional that say 'Oh lying is good..everyone should lie..after all nothing is real in this world..so why even speak the truth..God Himself is a hypocrite..He uses Maya to lie to us and stays out of with by being a silent witness..so come on come on ..keep lying babe"

Now hypocrisy is when a person knows he/she has flaws but is afraid that in case the word gets out and he/she might get a bad name and acts good outside and has a Holier Than Thou attitude just to cover up his/her tracks.

I hope you get the difference now..between a liar..delusion and a hypocrite.

Dear Renuka,

A good liar is only an good hypocrite. He is able to successfully project to the world that he is not a liar though he lies because he project successfully that he is not being hypocritical about it.

OK Renu! We can give a new plot for a story with a tambram gangster. (You have already chosen the actor!)

The gangster looks wild but is very orthodox. When he goes to jail in the climax, he asks for special TB cell

where 'madi samaiyal' is served! :hungry:

Dear RR ji,

I am very known for my traffic law abiding behavior...never speed..no breaking traffic rules..etc

My husband asked me "how on earth can you remain so law abiding"

My answer is " I fear to land in jail cos out here in Msia the food in jail is non veg..I am veg..I wont get veg food"

Saint. Thigaraja moans about all men folk, not just brahmins. One point worth noticing is he excludes women folk. Women are more devotional, loyal, and strict upholders of dharma.

There are 2 reasons for this:

1)He could see the future and did not want to be called a MCP hence he left women out of the equation.

2)or may be at those times women did not really matter and hence not included in the equation to start with!

Now coming to

"Women are more devotional, loyal, and strict upholders of dharma"...actually believe me..many women would like to break free and be totally on the other end of the Dharmic spectrum but its just that society is less forgiving to a woman and so many are "forced" to behave.

Yes Sir! I too wrote

Saint Thyagaraja says about hypocrites in this song:

He also writes about women folk who lure men in the song 'thelisi raama', set to raagam
Poornacandrikaa.

Conclusion: There exist bad guys and girls!!

Same logic applies to tambrams - traditional, modernist and westernist. Of course percentages may vary.

Of course they who do not want to call themselves as brahmins are excluded! The black lord or the the star wars force will embrace them.

Scheming women were there from Ramayana days starting from Tadaka, Kaikeyi and Manthara

As a member of the group that the vile and bigoted Brahmin Supremacists see as BB, I challenge KB and his cohort supremacists, go ahead, take a position, are you like every other caste group tainted with common hypocrisy, or are you special, hardworking non-violent, poor, benevolent, disciplined, etc., etc.?

The likes of KB mired in their caste supremacy will never face the challenge and come out clean. If you are not a hypocrite then stand up and answer the questions raised by the OP. If not, accept the charge of the OP that you are a hypocrite. Don't try to change the subject. The question is about Brahmin hypocrisy, answer that charge. Changing the subject only reveals you have no answer.

Dear Nara,

I think you will remember how, when things got rather difficult for Shri KB, even with the help of the brahminist caucus here, our wise KB just disappeared from one of the recent threads. And, it is his patented Trade mark not to address the OP or the main topic/issue under discussion, but to shoot ஒளியம்பு (arrow from hiding) at tangential points about BB etc. May be he fancies himself to be the next avataar of Rama! LOL!!

So, it is better to leave his posts untouched and abide by the Tamil saying which says not to
உசுப்பி-fy a being which is just sleeping without creating its usual trouble.

From the description such as vEgalEci nITa munigi bhUti bUsi vallanenci veliki shlAganIyulai, it will appear that Thyagaraja was referring to brahmins and not to non-brahmins. Hence, it is reasonable that even Thyagaraja could not but do BB!!

Objection your honour!

The saint only condemned the 'vEshadhAri's. Haven't you seen Nonbrahms with horizontal / vertical marking on their foreheads,

do japam in the wee hours? We had quiet a few in our village!

Ha Ha Ha...I actually noticed the translation of the song and was wondering why is Thyagaraja Bashing Brahmins!LOL but I did not want to say it..but now since you said it..I can also echo the same...

cos who else fits this description:

They get up at dawn, attend to their ablutions, wear the emblems of creed and count the beads, appearing

Dear RR ji,

I have never seen..as far as I know..hardly any Non Brahmin wakes up early to Japam in the wee hours of morning!

Exactly!!

I have found many of my NB friend's fathers, right from my schooldays, with horizontal, vertical and round marking on their forehead, arms and chest, in different forms relevant to the place where the marking is made. Wear Rudhraksha Mala as well and do Japam with JapaMala (beads).

Have seen many NB men wrapping their waist with Saffron cloth, printed with "Aum" & or Gayathri Mantram, while doing Prayers in their home.

Don't know how came the Lord here could not think about it before getting into BB. Is that, the Lord never have witnessed such postures adopted by NB's, ever in his life?

Hmmm. Let me think about a nonbram who fits in the Saint's description!

Yes! Swami (?) Niththi is one of the examples of '
veliki shlAganIyulai
'! :drama:
Please check out his images

Dear Renuka,

No, he only makes people believe that he is not hypocritical though he is hypocritical. He is hypocritical because he lies though he asks others not to lie. In both the cases he is hiding the truth successfully.

Hey since when Non Brahmins got entitled to all this??

I thought all these are reserved for Brahmins..morning prayer etc..Gayatri Japam is only for Dwijas etc..Definition of Dwija is Brahmin,Kshatriya and Vaishya..as far as I know there are No Kshatriyas or Vaishyas in South of India..so how come these Non Brahmins were doing all Dwija stuff?

Hey these sounds like the definition of the effect of Maya.

Just let me modify this:

Maya only makes people believe that she is not hypocritical though she is hypocritical. She is hypocritical because she lies though she asks others not to lie. In both the cases she is hiding the truth successfully.

While indulging in Spirituality majority of the people adopt some kind of getup in some usual/common form. The saint calls them all as "Veshadhari's", to emphasis that, people get into all sort of spiritual practices and marking spiritual symbols to please God and satisfy one self, in their quest to seek something from the almighty. There is no true Bakthi & love towards God in real BUT only the spiritual presentation outwardly.

To distinguish between what is true bakthi and what is not!!

The Saint's remarks are applicable to all Theists in general, irrespective of the caste they belong to.
