living in delhi has its privileges. one is seeing history being made right outside ones home

last time it was in 1977 when congress was trown out in 1977 and janta party swept to power

now in 2014 when BJP has met a similar fate

the reasons
communal agenda

arrogance of power

no social inclusion of the poorer sections

rhetoric and selling of dreams with no action on the ground

elitism and refusal to connect with people

people are celebrating with drums outside my home and hoping for changes. minimally better law and order, less corruption, power , water subsidies, women safety, end to police harassment, better women safety, some control over veg prices.

these are not high expectations . hopefully people will get them

I agree..that is why I wrote earlier that he needs to get rid of the Hindutva Brigade.

It is not easy to get rid of the Hindutva Brigade and if Modi tries to do the same he will be kicked out over nite the same way Advani was kicked out when he tried to move away from the Hardcore Hindutva line . Modi has to sail and sink with the Hindutva Brigade and he has very less choice in this .

people who said that BJP's selection of KBedi is masterstroke were wrong including myself. BJP high-command ignored local Delhi BJP cadres who I am sure subbotaged the election as Kejriwal once mentioned. Y see A Success buys an admission ticket to a bigger problem/trouble. KBedi certainly deserves success. Amit Shah's 2014 election strategy failed in this delhi election. there will be always problems between Center and Delhi Govt. I know few AAP leaders; they r not good leaders. Bharathi is one example. BJP highcommand gave tickets to all new comers ignoring lower BJP cadres desire. well, we will have to see how the delhi govt is going to function. Kejriwal already has declared he is an anarchist - srinivasan

Being in delhi, one gets to see history being made on the streets of delhi.

the last time it was in 1977 when janata party swept to power and congress was thrown out.

now BJP has met the same fate.

the reasons
communal agenda
arrogance
high rhetoric with no change on the ground
no social inclusion of poorer sections
emergence of a cleaner alternative promising clean politics.

there is drum beating and celebrations right outside my home.

more a feeling of relief that we might get to see some law and order, policemen on notice, some relief in power,

water bills[ the relief could be about 2k per month] , better safety for women hopefully, end to inspector raaj and

corruption of govt agencies for traders, perhaps lower vegetable prices if the govt controls middle men who stock and

create scarcities. simple aspirations of general public matter more than 7 percent growth, bullet trains, smart cities

and fancy promises. delhi has spoken decisively . will others get the message ?

I fully agree with you krish44 - srinivasan

5 Reasons Why the BJP Got It Wrong In Delhi - Rediff.com India News

This is the most important one :

"How can we not trust a man who seeks forgiveness? The boy ( i.e Kejriwal ) has remained so simple. Still wearing that middle size, red-coloured, sweater and the light pants. He doesn't even have a decent pair of shoes! He wears thick socks and then over that he wears 200 rupee sandals. So much like one of us! How can we not give him another chance?"
"And what is Modi Sir doing? He changes clothes three times a day (I swear he said it) and wears designer clothes. He isn't the son of a simple chaiwallah we voted for. He has become a style icon!"

So in the end Modis Designer suit ( costing Rs.10 lakhs ) that had his name printed which he was wearing during Obamas visit angered a lot of people the same way the people of TN were angered by Jayalalithas foster sons marriage in 1996 .

I understand why people seem to be euphoric. And good cause too.

Now please read this - http://gulfnews.com/opinions/columnists/why-bjp-may-want-to-lose-delhi-1.1443516

Once a government led by Kejriwal is sworn in, the focus of national media and by extension national discourse will shift to his government and ministers. Kejriwal will have no honeymoon period, both media and voters will demand immediate results, at least on corruption, power tariffs, VAT (value added tax), health hotline and WiFi. A hostile government at the Centre will not help him either. This spotlight on Kejriwal will come as a huge relief for Modi. It will shift the focus from his government at the Centre. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is planning a radical budget and several unpleasant decisions are expected this March. The media spotlight on Kejriwal government will allow Jaitley to quietly to push through unpopular reforms — disinvestment of PSUs (public sector undertakings), budget cuts in health, education — in his attempt to cut budget deficit.

Secondly, away from media spotlight, the right-wing Sangh Parivar machinery can then unleash its foot soldiers to polarise voters with low-intensity disturbances ahead of the two big battles — Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Bihar. These two states are absolutely essential for BJP’s growth. Victory in Bihar and UP will complete the Parivar’s dominance in the cow belt. Moreover, UP and Bihar will shore up BJP’s strength in Rajya Sabha, an absolute necessity for pushing far more radical and unpopular reforms. Last but not the least, these two states will make Modi, Shah and Jaitley the most powerful political coterie in the history of democratic India.

BJP’s top brass is aware that even if the party wins Delhi, the state will remain a headache — partly due to intra-party bickerings and partly because of impatient voters who expect immediate results and good governance, something the BJP is unsure of delivering. BJP has controlled the city-state’s civic bodies for years but has failed miserably. Losing Delhi won’t be such a bad idea!

I talked to few Delhites and they talk high of Arvind Kejriwal. He is IRS, worked in Government sector, won Magsaysay award etc... his focus seem to be on health and schools.. Last time he made mockery and clueless on what he is supposed to do as CM. Now he cannot tell his minority government as excuse... hope to see him do something constructively.. if he has big plans to spread his party across India.. he should just put that on hold and focus on spending something good for Delhi for next 6 months before thinking much more.

LOL!

What is wrong having a PM who is a style icon?

He has to maintain an international image too...image does count.

This PM went on collecting votes saying he is a humble Chai Wala and everyone got irritated to see this Chai Wala coming daily in different designer costumes and the final moment of anger was the one he wore with his name printed during Obamas visit . Today on Indian TV Channels while discussing the Delhi election results this issue was discussed by many and some even said that it is the height of Narcissism for a person to have his name printed on his suit . When Manmohan Singh was the PM his dress was never a debating issue but Modis dress is being regularly discussed in the social media .

These are superficial items. I hope Delhi people are more smart when they went to the polling stations

You are right. People notice such things. India is not ready for an ostentatious person as politician, they are still looking for the simple Khadi clad humble person. Even the most corrupt person with Billions in black money pretend to live a simple life. Then only they have any chance. LOL

Mufflerman vs Rs 10 lakh suit man: Winning elections is a lot about managing perceptions. Wearing a suit with his name on it certainly did nothing to help PM Narendra Modi and the BJP in the Delhi polls. The media was quick to brand it as Rs 10 lakh suit. On the other hand, Arvind Kejriwal with his muffler was the quintessential aam aadmi. The BJP lost a crucial perception battle here.

You earned the wrath of Modi-loyalists. Watch your head. LOL

It is nothing compared to the wrath that Modi earned from the Delhi Voters LOL . BTW I never made Modi wear that Narcissist Costume . He wore it and is now getting the eggs all over . In Politics while you happily receive the bouquets you must also be ready to receive the brickbats .
I still admire Modi the Individual and wanted him to be the Indias PM and do not regret the same but at the same time I am happy that he got this slap which was very much needed to make necessary course correction in his and his party attitude post the Parliament Election Victory in 2014 .

Delhi Election Results:

After going through Constituency-wise results, I find "Aam Aadmi Party" candidates have won the seats by very good margins. This shows the vote is cast in anger against established Political outfits, which have not kept their promises. BJP should think about the real causes, without the usual rhetorics for public consumption. New voters, middle class and poor have rejected BJP for non-fulfillment of promises. Just advertisements in media will not satisfy the needs of people. PM and FM should take the views of people and give substantial relief to them, while preparing the forthcoming Railway and General Budgets this month.

hi

all national should learn from local state parties....just they can't ignore local parties....bjp and congress should learn and respect

regional parties....delhi electorates mostly educated and direct influence of centre....
It sounds right... now.

Now that AAP has got a massive victory to such an extent that they do not have any opposition in the Delhi Assembly and hence carry on any legislation they want in the Delhi Assembly without any interruptions from any Political Party . So all the best to them .Hope Kejriwal governs Delhi properly and avoid tamasha like the way he did last time . In a way it is good for Modi ,BJP to have this defeat and this will help them to introspect and apply necessary corrective measures . Just because AAP has won in Delhi with a massive majority , it does not mean the end of BJP , Modi or even Congress . Everyone wrote the obituary of AAP after their massive defeat in the Parliamentary elections in 2014 but now it has bounced back with a massive victory in Delhi Assembly elections in 2015 . So if any party is serious about bouncing back , they need to honestly introspect and apply necessary course correction .

Democracy has come alive. Delhi is turning a page and asserting itself. The march of juggernauts has been stopped. Is there a comparison between a frail Kejariwal and stocky Amit Shah?

AAP Victory - Sonia/Rahul

With Congress getting 0 at Delhi, is it now time for Sonia and Rahul to volunteer and leave Congress alone and giving chance for new leadership? It is not only Delhi they should look at, but on the 450+ MP constituencies they lost all over India!!
