One cannot stop a alcohol addict unless there is no alcohol in any part of the world. Tasmac is preventing illegal alcohol and saving deaths.. but good thing will be to keep the Tasmac outside city or well away from temples, schools etc. Interesting information that I read is.. Tasmac supply comes from a particular distillery (almost 75%) and it owned by DMK. That is interesting....

Twenty eight-year-old Parthiban stops by the local "wine shop", which despite the moniker sells anything but wine, in his autorickshaw.

He is in a hurry and asks for the "special" — two "cuttings" of a new brand of alcohol locally called Andhra Packet.

"One cutting is enough to make you fly like a rocket," he grins as he downs it. "I take two just for the kick."

Andhra Packet is a small pouch of spurious liquor costing Rs 20 each. It was once sold surreptitiously, but has found its way into alcohol retail outlets run by the state government.

That shouldn't surprise: Tamil Nadu loves its drink and consumes 17% of the alcohol in the entire country. Especially when this deadly cocktail of liquor and corruption is prepared by politicians.

The reginal language of this State being Tamil, though most of the customers are Tamil people, strangely brand name of top Whisky, Brandy, Rum, Beer, etc are named only in English. But for that matter all those who drink, don’t speak English.

We have Whisky with Brand name ‘Royal Stag’ and it is not known whether those who drink this whisky shed their ego atleast like the stag which is known to shed its antlers each year.

We have another Whisky by name Bag piper and it is not known whether those who drink will dance at least their to the tune of inner voice.

We have Brandies with Name 'Old Admiral’ and ‘Honey Bee’ and it is not known how those who drink these brandies behave themselves in a disciplined way or active.

And we have rum among other brands called ‘Old Monk’, a popular product and it is not known whether those drink will go in search of God or truth. lol

சிறுவர்கள் மது குடிக்கும் வீடியோ காட்சிகள், கடந்த வாரம் எல்லா அலைபேசிகளிலும் நிரம்பி வழிந்தன. கோவையில் பள்ளி மாணவிகள் சிலர் மது அருந்தியதும், அதில் ஒரு மாணவி மது மயக்கத்தில் நடுச்சாலையில் சண்டையிட்டதும் பரபரப்புச் செய்தியானது. மது என்னும் கொடிய கலாசாரம் நம் குழந்தைகள் வரைக்கும் நீண்டுவிட்டது என்ற யதார்த்தம், கடுமையான மன நடுக்கத்தை உண்டாக்குகிறது.

6,823 டாஸ்மாக் கடைகள் மூலம், ஆண்டு ஒன்றுக்கு 26 ஆயிரம் கோடி ரூபாய் வருமானம் ஈட்டுகிறது தமிழ்நாடு அரசாங்கம். இதுதான் தமிழ்நாடு அரசின் முக்கிய நிதி வருவாய். மக்களை மயக்கத்தில் ஆழ்த்தி, திருடர்கள் பொருட்களைத் திருடிச் செல்வதைப்போல, குடிமக்களை மதுவின் மயக்கத்தில் தள்ளி அவர்களின் பணத்தை வழிப்பறி செய்கிறது அரசு. 'சாலை வசதி வேண்டும்’, 'குடிநீர் வசதி வேண்டும்’ என மக்கள் கேட்டால் அவற்றைச் செய்துதர வக்கற்றவர்கள், 'எங்கள் ஊருக்கு டாஸ்மாக் வேண்டாம்’ என மக்கள் போராடினாலும் கண்டுகொள்ளாமல் கடைகளை அமைக்கிறார்கள்; அமைத்த கடைகளை அகற்ற மறுக்கிறார்கள். 'யார் குடித்துச் சீரழிந்தாலும், யார் குடும்பம் நடுத்தெருவுக்கு வந்தாலும் எங்களுக்குக் கவலை இல்லை; குடியினால் கிடைக்கும் வருமானம் மட்டுமே எங்கள் குறிக்கோள்’ என்றால், இதற்குப் பெயர் அரசாங்கமா? எனில், ஒரு கள்ளச்சாராய வியாபாரிக்கும் அரசாங்கத்துக்கும் என்னதான் வேறுபாடு?

I have a doubt; may be I am dumb. Several developed countries have no "prohibition" and all kinds of alcohols are sold there. But those countries do not seem to have this kind of problems, nor are their people so touchy about this.

Even in a small village in Kerala, it was historically famous for toddy of the best quality and I learned from a colleague of mine (who was born and brought up in that village) that even as young children they used to be given toddy at the dining table, but like sweeta or paayasam, parents used to control the consumption of toddy by the young children. Adults, especially those earning an independent income could drink to their heart's content, but since the drinking was within the house and the entire family (father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, and so on will be seated on the dining room itself) nobody would even speak a bad word!

Why can't our families, who have problems follow this example instead of finding fault with those who drink, etc?

The agitation, protest, rage, whatever term you call it are against a ‘social menace’.

There are lot of deaths due to consumption of IMFL and due to drunken driving, etc.

Have you not seen people lying down on the road after taking overdose of alcohol?

The point in question is does our Government need such revenue by making women widows?

What is the fate of the families that have lost their only bread winner??

Erratic behaviour of most people who take to heavy drinking as a reaction .... are all deliberate ,wilful and intentional behaviour of the drunkards to threaten others. I have not come across any drunkard misbehaving with his wife/ sister.

In this the difference in Tamil Nadu is that it is the poor who drink more and get poorer...Hence the need for curbing drinking

When there are unreasonable excessive controls , there is a mad desire to break free and run amok.

For eg. We can stay in our own homes all day out of free will . But if anyone locks us in , we would try our level best to break free..

There is no control here.

There are more than one thousand TASMAC outlets spread across Tamil Nadu, functioning during working hours. There is no regimentation or control. Everyone is free to procure and drink.

Hence even students reported to have started visiting TASMAC shop.

While people with social consciousness view this trend with more concern, a few come here to praise alcoholism.

Tamil Nadu Government may consider seriously distribution of IMFL products also freely along with PDS items.

So that poor may save the trouble of working hard to earn and spend on IMFL.

While other items are offered freebie why not IMFL??

They won't, bcos the beneficiaries are none other than the four IMFL suppliers.

It is their interest first and poor people interest pushed to the back seat.

And there is no one to protect the poor people's interest.

It is time that the poor should wake up and teach the politicians a lesson, unforgettable lesson.

சென்னை: சாலை விபத்துக்களுக்கு காரணமாக இருக்கும் டாஸ்மாக் மதுக் கடைகளை மூடவேண்டும் என்று மதிமுக பொதுச் செயலாளர் வைகோ தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

இது தொடர்பாக அவர் வெளியிட்டுள்ள அறிக்கையில்,

" தேசிய குற்ற ஆவணக் காப்பகம் கடந்த ஆண்டு 2014 இல் நடைபெற்ற சாலை விபத்துகள் குறித்த புள்ளி விபரங்களை வெளியிட்டுள்ளது. அதில் தமிழ்நாட்டில் சாலை விபத்துகளின் எண்ணிக்கை 1.5 சதவீதம் அதிகரித்துள்ளதாகவும், அதிக விபத்துகள் நிகழும் மாநிலங்களில் தமிழ்நாடு முதலிடத்தில் இருப்பதாகவும் தகவல்கள் வெளியாகி உள்ளன.

நெடுஞ்சாலைகளில் உள்ள டாஸ்மாக் மதுக்கடைகளை அகற்ற சென்னை உயர்நீதிமன்றம், பிப்ரவரி 21, 2013 ஆம் ஆண்டு உத்தரவிட்டது. இந்த உத்தரவை எதிர்த்து உச்சநீதிமன்றத்துக்கு சென்ற தமிழக அரசு, நெடுஞ்சாலைகளில் உள்ள மதுக்கடைகளை மூடினால் அரசுக்கு வருவாய் இழப்பு உள்ளிட்ட பல்வேறு நடைமுறைச் சிக்கல்கள் ஏற்படும்; சென்னை உயர்நீதிமன்ற உத்தரவை செயல்படுத்த கால அவகாசம் வேண்டும் என்று மனுதாக்கல் செய்தது.

ஜனவரி 15, 2015 இல் இந்த வழக்கில் தீர்ப்பளித்த உச்சநீதிமன்றம், சென்னை உயர்நீதிமன்ற உத்தரவை எதிர்த்து மேல்முறையீடு செய்த ஜெயலலிதா அரசுக்கு கண்டனம் தெரிவித்ததுடன், இந்தியா முழுவதும் அனைத்து மாநிலங்களிலும், நெடுஞ்சாலைகளில் உள்ள மதுக்கடைகளை அகற்றுவதற்கான கொள்கை முடிவை பிப்ரவரி 17, 2015க்குள் உச்சநீதிமன்றத்திற்கு தெரிவிக்க வேண்டும் என்று உத்தரவிட்டது.

உச்சநீதிமன்றத்தின் தீர்ப்பை ஏற்று, நெடுஞ்சாலைகளில் உள்ள மதுக்கடைகளை மூடுவதற்கு மத்திய, மாநில அரசுகள் இதுவரை எந்த நடவடிக்கையும் எடுக்க முன்வரவில்லை. தமிழ்நாட்டில் மதுவினால் ஏற்படும் சீரழிவுகள் நாளுக்கு நாள் அதிகரித்து வருகின்றன. வளரும் தலைமுறையினரும், பெண்களும் கூட மதுவுக்கு அடிமையாகி வருவதாக அதிர்ச்சி செய்திகள் நாளேடுகளில் வந்த வண்ணம் இருக்கின்றன.

I think people in India should be allowed to drink to their heart's content. How different is it from cigarettes or porn or movies or novels?

If we take the line of reasoning that it promotes rash driving, anger, drunken brawls etc, then, on the same token, we have to ban all the "bad habits" that are deemed unfit to be exhibited by an individual, and should attract the same penalty as any other crime; stuff like slapping, ill treating, abusing, cheating, dominating, etc., any individual (family or not) should all carry the same treatment. Are they not original vices?

Taking a cue from Freudian logic, it would be fair to say that the more we suppress a desire, the more forcefully would it surface... so drink, and the devil will do the rest.

The present rage over alcohol addiction is because of the growing population of Anandhi Ammals in Tamil Nadu.

"Call to unite for total prohibition in Tamil Nadu

“A woman, who works for daily wages, told us that she is hesitant to return home every day after work fearing abuse by her husband," she says.

C. Periyasamy (67) is a member of the ‘Youth Walk for Liquor-free Society’ organised from Kanyakumari to Chennai by the People’s Movement Against Liquor and Drugs (PMALD).

“The days I spent interacting with people creating awareness of total prohibition is what I consider the most meaningful period in my life,” Mr. Periyasamy, a retired regional probation officer from Ariyalur, told The Hindu on Thursday at the Gandhi Memorial Museum.
M. Anandhi Ammal from Chennai, who advocates total prohibition in the State, says that the team came across a large number of women, who are victims of domestic abuse because of liquor. “A woman, who works for daily wages, told us that she is hesitant to return home every day after work fearing abuse by her husband,” she says.

The team also encountered a 10-year-old boy who asked if there was any medicine to cure his father’s addiction to liquor, Ms. Anandhi Ammal adds. “Such incidents gave us more determination to fight against liquor and all the people should come together for total prohibition in the State,” she further says.

They also met a few families where the children had to drop out of schools to earn the bread after their fathers became alcoholics. R. Senthamilselvi, another member of the team, rues that a large number of school and college students are becoming liquor addicts under peer pressure.

இந்தக் கொடுமைக்கும், கொடூரப் பழக்கத்திற்கும் ஆண்கள் மட்டுமன்றி தாய்மார்களும், பச்சிளம் குழந்தைகளும் பலி ஆகிறார்கள் என்ற செய்திகளும் தொடர்ந்து வந்து கொண்டிருக்கின்றன.
