COIMBATORE: Over 200 women from Perur Chettipalayam attempted to shut down a Tasmac-run liquor outlet in Coimbatore on Monday.

The women demanded the state government to immediately close down the outlet as men who visit to consume liquor there were posing trouble to the residents. "We have been fighting against the Tasmac shop for the past ten years, requesting the authorities to shift it elsewhere,'' said a protesting woman.

The residents said there was a school, a hospital, a temple and a bus stop in the proximity of the liquor outlet. "Men visiting the outlet create trouble in the locality and abuse the public. They are also found lying on the roadside in an inebriated state," said R Padmavathi, a resident of Perur Chettipalayam.

Even as they attempted to close down the shop, the protestors, most of them women, sat on the road raising slogans against the government authorities. "Many a times, men from the outlet have passed lewd comments on women. After evening, women and children are scared to walk by this stretch,'' said another resident S Barani. IMHO application of lesser of two evils principle will solve the problem.

The reginal language of this State being Tamil, though most of the customers are Tamil people, strangely brand name of top Whisky, Brandy, Rum, Beer, etc are named only in English. But for that matter all those who drink, don’t speak English.


We have Brandies with Name 'Old Admiral’ and ‘Honey Bee’ and it is not known how those who drink these brandies behave themselves in a disciplined way or active.

And we have rum among other brands called ‘Old Monk’, a popular product and it is not known whether those drink will go in search of God or truth. lol

Money is neither ‘good’ nor ‘bad’, neither white nor black. Just another shade of Grey.

when anyone tries top preach morality to others,it is wise to tell them to get lost.

If a poor man drinks to forget his misery , he is doing it of his own accord. No one can protect a man from himself.

if some ladies do not find it unpalatable, they can walk out of their marriages with habitual drinkers and not live with them.

Most slum people do not believe much in sanctity of marriage or walking out of bad marriages.

it is because ,most of the women are economically independant and are capable of earning their own living unlike many of the middle class

If some drunkards make a spectacle of themselves,they can be sent to some rehabilitation centres.

State should have no rule regarding consumption of liquor or deciding the personal lives of people.

In foreign countries also there are alcoholics. they are sent to deaddiction centres.

Manufacturing anything is not worthwhile as states have indicated that they might lose revenue if GST comes in. They want a levy of 1percent as compensation for

manufacturing anything for 5 years. no sense in getting into manufacture . very bad economics. distribution thru retail outlets thru monopoly is attractive. no

competition and easy money. most states do that

இந்தக் கொடுமைக்கும், கொடூரப் பழக்கத்திற்கும் ஆண்கள் மட்டுமன்றி தாய்மார்களும், பச்சிளம் குழந்தைகளும் பலி ஆகிறார்கள் என்ற செய்திகளும் தொடர்ந்து வந்து கொண்டிருக்கின்றன.

தமிழ் நாட்டில் காங்கிரஸ் ஆட்சியில் பல நல்ல காரியங்களை செய்தனர் அதில் பூரண மதுவிலக்கும் ஒன்று. ராஜாஜி சென்னை மாகாணத்தின் முதல்அமைச்சராக பதவி ஏற்றபோது பூரண மதுவிலக்கை அமல் செய்தார். அதில் இழந்த வரிப்பணத்தை ஈடு செய்யவே விற்பனை வரியை இந்தியாவில் முதல் முறையாக கொண்டுவந்தார். இந்தியாவிலுள்ள மத்திய மாநில அரசுகள் மக்களைப் பாதுகாத்து நல்வழிப்படுத்த, எந்தக் கோட்பாடுகளை உள்ளடக்கி சட்டங்கள் இயற்ற வேண்டும் என்பதே அரசு நெறிமுறைக் கோட்பாடுகள்(Directive Principles) ஆகும். இது பற்றிஅரசியல் அமைப்பு சட்டம் நான்காம் அத்தியாயத்தில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. எல்லோரும் போதுமான வாழ்க்கை வசதிகள், வயதுக்கும் வேலைக்கு ஏற்ற பொருத்தமான வேலை, தொழில் செய்ய ஏற்ற சூழ்நிலை, வேலைக்கு ஏற்ற வயது வரை இலவச கட்டாயக் கல்வி, பொது சுகாதாரம், மது விலக்கு, வேளாண்மை வளர்ச்சி, வரலாற்றுச் சின்னங்கள் பாதுகாப்பு, சட்டம்-ஒழுங்கு ஆகியன அக்கோட்பாடுகளுள் சிலவாகும்.ஆனால் இவற்றில் பலவற்றை அரசு இன்னமும் அமல் படுத்தவில்லை, அவைகளில்பூரண மது விலக்கும் ஒன்று.

இன்று குஜராத் மாநிலத்திலும் மற்றும் நாகாலாந்திலும் மட்டுமே பூரண மதுவிலக்கு உள்ளது. மணிப்பூர் மற்றும் இலட்சத்தீவில் சில இடங்களிலும் மதுவிலக்கு அமுலில் உள்ளது.

I agree. There are reports regarding rage, protest, demonstration, agitation, etc by the general public either demanding closure or to shift TASMAC outlets at some areas and for enforcement of prohibition too.

It is better late than never.



"When Rajaji pleaded against lifting prohibition

In 1971, he met Karunanidhi at his residence and argued that lifting prohibition would hurt future generations adversely.

When DMK president M. Karunanidhi proclaimed that his party will implement total prohibition if voted to power, many considered it a ‘U’ turn in his policy towards liquor.

The developments of July-August 1971, when the State first allowed suspended prohibition, were also recalled by many, including PMK founder S. Ramadoss, who hit out at the DMK chief’s new stand as an election gimmick.

In 1971, Tamil Nadu occupied a peculiar position as one of the two States (the other being Gujarat) where prohibition was still in force. Mr. Karunanidhi as Chief Minister decided to lift it, making an argument of economics.

He said he was for enforcement of prohibition across country. But in a situation where this was not possible, States implementing this policy should be compensated for loss of revenue. In the absence of such compensation, there was no option but to introduce liquor sales.

The decision was put through the DMK’s general council, which ratified it. But the government faced stiff opposition, especially by the Congress and the Swatantra Party of C. Rajagopalachari, who first introduced prohibition in Salem in 1937.

On a rainy Tuesday evening on July 20, 1971, Rajaji, with an umbrella in hand, met Mr. Karunanidhi at his residence and pleaded against lifting prohibition, which he, according to Congressmen, believed would hurt future generations adversely. The Hindu reported that the meeting took place for 20 minutes and both leaders were silent about the talks to the press.

மக்களுக்காகச் செயல்படும் எந்த ஒரு அமைப்பும், மக்கள் சேவைக்காக மட்டுமே செயல்படுவது தான் இயல்பு. அந்த வகையில், கள்ளச்சாராயத்தை ஒழிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற உயரிய நோக்கத்துடன் மது விற்பனையை அமல்படுத்த முன்வரும் அரசோ, அமைப்போ, அதற்குரிய உச்சபட்ச பொறுப்புடன் செயல்பட வேண்டும் என்பது தான் நியதி. அதிலிருந்து தவறும்போது ஏற்படும் ஆபத்துகளை தான், தமிழகம் தற்போது சந்தித்து வருகிறது.

மது குடிப்போருக்கான வயது வரம்பு நிர்ணயிக்கப்படாமல் போனதால், சிறு பிள்ளைகளும் மது குடிக்கத் துவங்கி விட்டனர்.
இதற்கென பணம் ஈட்டும் முகமாக, குற்றச் செயல்களில் அவர்கள் ஈடுபடுகின்றனர்.
*சமீபத்தில் பிளஸ் 2 மாணவி, போதையில் ரகளை செய்த சம்பவம் தமிழகத்தையே உலுக்கிப் போட்டது. எதிர்காலத்தை சிறப்பாக அமைத்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டிய வயதில், மது மீது நாட்டம் கொள்ளத் துவங்குவது, இளைஞர்களுக்கு நல்லதல்ல.
* மது குடிக்கும் பழக்கம் அதிகரிப்பதால், ஆண்மைத் தன்மையை இழக்கும் அபாயம் ஏற்படுகிறது.

திட்டம் 1: மதுவிலக்கை அமல்படுத்துவதை விட, மது விற்பனையை அரசு கைவிடலாம். மது விற்பனையை தனியார் கையகப்படுத்தும்போது, போட்டி அதிகரித்து, தரமான மது வகைகள், சந்தைக்கு வரும். 'செவுத்து முட்டி, 50 ரூபா' போன்ற, கலப்பட மது வகைகளை, கண்ணால் கூட பார்க்க முடியாத நிலையை ஏற்படுத்தலாம்.
திட்டம் 2: எந்த மது வகையாக இருந்தாலும், 20 சதவீதத்திற்குள், ஆல்கஹால் கொண்டவற்றுக்கு, குறைந்த அளவில் வரி விதிக்கலாம்.

நெல்லை: நெல்லை மாவட்டம் செங்கோட்டையில் பள்ளி மாணவர் ஒருவர் மதுபோதை தலைக்கேறிய நிலையில், தள்ளாட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்ட சம்பவம் பெரும் பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியது.

நெல்லை மாவட்டம் செங்கோட்டையில் அரசு மேல்நிலைப்பள்ளி செயல்பட்டு வருகிறது. அந்த பள்ளியில் பத்தாவது படிக்கும் மாணவர்கள் சிலர் நேற்று வகுப்புக்கு ‘கட்’ அடித்து விட்டு டாஸ்மாக் கடையில் மது பாட்டில்களை வாங்கிக் கொண்டு காட்டுப்பகுதிக்கு சென்றுள்ளனர்.

அங்கு ஒதுக்குப்புறமான இடத்தில் அமர்ந்து மது குடித்து, போதை தலைக்கேறிய நிலையில் அங்கேயே சிறிது நேரம் ஓய்வு எடுத்துள்ளனர். பின்னர், மீண்டும் சென்று மது பாட்டில்களை வாங்கி வந்து குடித்துள்ளனர். அதில், ஒரு மாணவனுக்கு போதை அதிகம் ஏற்பட்டதால் அந்த இடத்திலேயே தள்ளாடிக் கொண்டு இருந்துள்ளார்.

உடன் சென்றவர்கள் அவனது போதையை குறைக்கும் நடவடிக்கையில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளனர். ஆனாலும், அவனுக்கு போதை தெளியாத நிலையில் அந்த மாணவனை மட்டும் அங்கேயே விட்டுவிட்டு சென்று விட்டனர். தட்டுத் தடுமாறியபடி அங்கிருந்து வந்த மாணவன், போதையில் சாலையில் தடுமாறியபடி கீழே விழுந்து கிடந்துள்ளான். இதனைக் கண்ட அப்பகுதி மக்கள் அந்த மாணவனை மீட்டு செங்கோட்டை அரசு மருத்துவமனைக்கு அனுப்பி வைத்துள்ளனர்.

எது எப்படியோ மதுவுக்கு எதிரான தமிழகத்தின் உரத்த குரலுக்கு அது வலு சேர்த்திருக்கிறது. தமிழகத்தில் இன்னும் மதுவிலக்கு குறித்து முதலமைச்சர் ஜெயலலிதா பேசாதது ஒன்றுதான் குறை. அதுவும் விரைவில் நீங்கும் என நம்பிக்கைத் துளிர் லேசாக மனதில் அரும்பியிருக்கிறது.

In a historical flip, DMK announces support for alcohol-prohibition – but why?

In a mildly surprising move, and what is being seen as a major policy shift, DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi announced in Chennai that if the DMK comes to power after the 2016 TN Assembly elections, it will take steps towards the implementation of alcohol-prohibition in the state of Tamil Nadu. The former Chief Minister is reported to have justified the move stating the plight of young children and aged women who are suffering due to alcoholism.

Why the announcement is surprising and being seen as a major policy shift is that both the DMK and AIADMK are notorious for a series of flip-flops over prohibition.

அரசே மதுபானம் விற்பதை சட்டப்படி குற்றமாக அறிவிக்க வேண்டும்.. மனுவை ஏற்றது கோவை நீதிமன்றம்

கோவை: உடலுக்கு ஊறுவிளைவிக்கும் ஆல்கஹால் கலந்த மதுவை அரசே விற்பனை செய்வது சட்டப்படி தவறு என்று அறிவிக்க வலியுறுத்தி கோவை மாவட்ட நீதிமன்றத்தில் வழக்கு தொடரப்பட்டுள்ளது. கோவை போத்தனூரை சேர்ந்தவர் முகமதுரபீக். இவரது வக்கீல் கிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தி என்பவர் கடந்த 20ம் தேதி கோவை மாவட்ட நீதிமன்றத்தில் ஒரு மனு தாக்கல் செய்தார். அதில் "இந்திய தண்டனை சட்டம் 328-ன் கீழ் உயிருக்கு கேடு விளைவிக்கும் "ஆல்கஹால்" போன்ற போதை பொருளை வியாபாரம் செய்தல், இருப்பு வைத்தல் மற்றும் விற்பனையை யார் செய்தாலும் அது குற்றம் என கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது.
