Here is an assortment of
Indian cyber sweets for
my sweet cyber friends!
ENJOY your favorites!!!:)

Picture with a kesari color saree and in mid sixties is the only correct data! :)

Raghu Raman was just a figure of speech.

His name is Mr. Venkatramani.

We can still be a brother and a sister

even if we are not seen on the same family tree! :panda: :panda:

Dear Tmt VR

Sorry to tickle-up a sensitive issue. I just saw your post on vitamin M or the deficiency of it.

I too don't give a damn about such people. To me you have vitamin W - wealth of knowledge,
talent, smartness, sportive, up-to-date, with the right blend of modernity & conventionalism.

As I had said earlier, I am very much into Geni and located a Mrs Visalakshi Ramani in one
of our family trees! But my happiness was very short-lived as saw her profile:

Picture : That of a lady in a yellow saree - in early/mid sixties
Wife of : Ramani Jayaraman - you had mentioned Rahgu Raman, somewhere.
Mother of : Suba Ramani & Hema Ramani - you had mentioned 'two sons' somewhere.
Sister of : Lakshminarayanan Subramanian & Gurumurthi Subramanian.

Like one of those Naadi Josiyar's chuvadis - eleminated, not you. How sad !

I hope you will not consider it as my being too nosy / inquisitive / prying for the sake of
" Vambu Alandhufying ".

ref # 773.

Isn't wonderful and strange that
"M" is the ulta-pulta of "W"!

That may be the reason why
Money and Wisdom do not coexist!!!

Money coexists with Smartness! :)

They are just thoughtless and insensitive.

If I am told that someone came when I was away,

I will immediately visit the person or speak on phone

to find out what was the matter. :phone:

Minimum courtesy!!!

You mean to say people are actually so rude?
To ask someone to come back later even without finding out what the reason of the visit was?

What ever happened to Athiti Devo Bhava.

Out here we have foreign workers from Pakistan and Bangladesh who in their free time cut grass at houses.
So when they call at the gate ..we either tell them we want to engage their services or tell them its Ok next time.
Some even ask for some water sometimes and we give them too.
No one leaves without getting an answer.

You have weird neighbours.
I can imagine with your knee pain you still walked around to share your happiness with them.

Next time parcel it to me !!LOL

Are my neighbors
weird and wrong or
wired all wrong???

May be 50:50

We find weird and wrong things at times in people found to be good and mostly smart.
We find "wired all wrong" people, doing something differently good, to our much surprise..

Hardly we find people like you who are sensitive to the feelings of others/neighbors and even some xyz as a passerby, holding on the sense of respect and at least the basic minimum courtesy.

Sweets are tasty BUT can make you a diabetic patient
Sweet people are most preferred BUT can be fooled/miss used.

Anything in excess would lead to discomfort
Anything in less leads to dissatisfaction.

Sweets and sweet people are liked and are tempting
Ironically, both can be burdened with complaints.

Dear VR Ji,

I have this doubt I want to clear.
Ok you see those who learn Bharatnatyam have to honour Lord Shiva(Nataraja).
So my question is how about orthodox Vaishnavas who do not believe in acknowledging Lord Shiva..do they allow their daughters to learn Bharatnatyam?

Dear Renuka,

You have asked:

I have this doubt I want to clear.
Ok you see those who learn Bharatnatyam have to honour Lord Shiva(Nataraja).
So my question is how about orthodox Vaishnavas who do not believe in acknowledging Lord Shiva..do they allow their daughters to learn Bharatnatyam?

If I may answer:

1. Shiva is not an asura for Vaishnavites. So he is not shunned. Vaishnavites believe strongly, with sufficient reasons, that Sriman Narayana is the ultimate reality/god and he is worshipped with single minded devotion. They are to this extent strict monotheists. For them Shiva is an auspicious Devatha who deserves respect. When they offer their pranams to Shiva, Muruga, Ganapathy etc., it is to the Sriman Narayana who is the antaratman in them. If you are open to knowledge I can refer literature to you which will help you understand the position clearly. If you are already burdened with adequate knowledge there is no way I can help you. Once you understand this position of Vaishnavites belief system rest of the things like why they do not keep the names like murugan, subramanian, sivakumar, saravanan, senthil, sankaran, kamesham etc., why they do not visit the temple of Shiva etc will fall in place. Please understand that vaishnavites do not tell saivites to give up their belief system. It is peaceful coexistence in which each can keep his faith in tact is what they look for. Only when there is sniping they shoot back.

2. A brahma jijnyasa considers music as well natyam as distractions with potential to derail the quest. As far as the ordinary vaishnavites are concerned everything is okay in their continuous struggle to keep abreast with time and tide. I dont think a vaishnavite alone can be a brahma jijnyasa.

3. Orthodox as well as bigoted vaishnavites do not like their children to learn bharatnatya for the reason explained above.

Dear Renuka,

You have asked:

If you are open to knowledge I can refer literature to you which will help you understand the position clearly. If you are already burdened with adequate knowledge there is no way I can help you..

Dear sir,

I am open to knowledge cos I am still very much a Pamara.

Cos there is one Vaishnava priest I know here who covers his ears when he hears a Lord Shiva song.
That's why I asked.

கனியாத பக்தி.

“ஹரியும் சிவனும் ஒண்ணு ; இதை
அறியாதவன் வாயில் மண்ணு !”
என்று கூறுவார் முன்னோர்கள்;
என்றாலும் சிலர் கேட்பதில்லை.

கனியாத பக்தி உடைய ஒருவன்,
தனியாக சிவபிரானை மட்டுமே
கனிவோடு தொழுது வந்ததான்;

சங்கரனை மட்டுமே வணங்கினான்;
ஹரியை விடுத்து விட்டான் அவன்;

Dance is one of the Lalitha Kalaigal...Fine Arts.

Even kings and queens were supposed to learn all the
64 Arts-including Dance and music.

Bharatanatayam is not exclusive to Lord Siva. Shakthi performs Laasyam while Siva performs Thaandavam.

Krishna is called as "kudamaadi Govindan" since he could dance juggling mud pots at the same time.

Krishna's Kaalinga Nardhanam is well known. Our guru used to describe the dance thus.

Krishna would jump on the head of kaalinga which rises highest and then on to another head which rises highest.

The snake held precious gems in each of its head. The light coming out of that head would change as the different heads were stamped by Krishna.

The colorful light show must have been something similar to the lights used in the Discotheque in the modern days.

Home remedies with curry leaves (from a forwarded mail)

Curry leaves possess the qualities of a herbal tonic. They strengthen the functioning of the stomach. They are used as a mild laxative. The juice extracted from 15g of leaves may be taken with buttermilk.

The root of curry plant also has medicinal properties. The juice of the root can be taken to relieve pain associated with kidneys.
Digestive properties

Fresh juice of curry leaves with lime juice and sugar is an effective medicine in the treatment of morning sickness, nausea and vomiting due to indigestion and excessive use of fats.

One or two teaspoons of juice of curry leaves mixed with a teaspoon of lime juice helps in these cases. Curry leaves ground to a fine paste and mixed with buttermilk can also be taken on an empty stomach to treat stomach upsets.

Liberal intake of curry leaves is beneficial in preventing premature graying of hair. These leaves have the property to nourish hair roots. New hair roots that grow are healthier with normal pigment. The leaves can be used in the form of chutney or the juice may be squeezed and taken with buttermilk or lassi.

When the leaves are heated in coconut oil till they reduce to a blackened residue, the oil forms an excellent hair tonic to stimulate hair growth.

Burns and bruises
Curry leaves can be effectively used to treat burns, bruises and skin eruptions. They should be applied as a poultice over the affected areas.
Fresh juice of curry leaves suffused in the eyes makes them look bright. It also prevents early development of cataract.

Insect bites
Fruits of curry plant are edible berries. They are purple when ripe. Juice of these berries when mixed with equal proportion of lime juice is effective for external application in insect stings.

dear friends,
I have a sincere request.
The aim of this thread is to think,
to wonder and ponder,
to quote and to dote but
NOT to become vulgar.
Humor is welcome but not
revolting unpalatable vulgarity.
I do not wish to see red ink in this thread.
I hope all of you will continue to post here
without causing me concern!

Perhaps you have met the modern Ghantakarnan in that priest. There is a ghantakarn temple in Gujarat which you come across when you go by road from Dakore to Eklingji temple near Udaipur. The story you hear there is different from what VR has given here.

Cheers.

My story is based on Rama Krishna Parama Hamasa's teachings! :)

Can you please the other version also here??? :ear:

Dear VR,

This ghantakaran was supposed to be a jain digambar who was wearing the bells in his ear to avoid hearing anything which is bad.

Cheers.
