while you are in the usa still, it might be interesting to look at the usa with the critical lense, of one, like you, who has lived within your means all your life and saved some. the usa is just the opposite. i mean the government.

காலம் எப்படி மாறிவிட்டது! இக்காலத்தில்
நேரம் செலவிட, கட்டாயம் PC தேவைதான்!

இந்தியாவிலிருந்து இங்கு வரும் எல்லாத்
தந்தைகளும், ஹிந்து பேப்பர் செய்திகளும்,

விருப்பப்படும் மெகா நெடுந் தொடர்களும்,
இருக்கும் நாட்டிலிருந்து பார்க்க உதவவே,

'இன்டெர்நெட்' உள்ளது! Typing தெரிந்தால்,
இன்னும் வசதியே! எழுத்துக்களைத் தேடிக்

கஷ்டப்படாமல், எளிதில் 'தேடல்' முடியும்!
இஷ்டம்போல விஷயங்கள் சேகரிக்கலாம்.

கணினி என்றாலே என்னவெனத் தெரியாத,
இனிய என்னவரின் அண்ணன், இங்கு வந்து,

தானே Browse செய்யும் முறைகள் கற்றதில்,
நானே அசந்துதான் போனேன்! காலத்திற்கு

ஏற்றபடி நாமும் மாறுவது, நமது வாழ்வை
ஏற்றமுடன் இருக்க வைக்கும்; ஐயமில்லை!

இருபது ஆண்டுகள் முன், பலரும் அறியாது
இருந்த விஷயம் அல்லவா, Internet என்பது!

எம் மகனுக்கு ஒரு சந்தேகம் வந்தது; இனி
நம் உலகில் அடுத்த பெரிய மாற்றம் என்று

எப்போது வரும்? என்ன வரும்? இந்த வினா,
இப்போது பதில் சொல்ல முடியாததே ஆகும்.

Yes TBS Sir! Changes keep coming. I was amazed to see the I pad that my sister in law brought here, having so much

of kids stuff downloaded in that! It seems her two year old grandson plays with games and listens to bed time stories

from I pad... No books! But these are based on internet! And right now, it is difficult to imagine what will be the next step!

விலைவாசி வானுயரமான இந்த நாட்களிலும்,
சாலை வழிப் பயணம், சேமிக்கும் உபாயம்தான்.

விமான டிக்கெட்டுகள், சில வாரங்கள் முன்னே
சாமானிய மக்கள் வாங்க வேண்டும்! அழகிய

ரயில் பயணத்தில் ஒயிலாகச் செல்லவும், நாம்
ரயில் டிக்கெட்டுகள், சீக்கிரம் எடுக்கவேண்டும்.

எட்டுமணி நேரம் சாலை வழியே சென்றாலும்,
எட்டுபேர் வரை வாடகை Van இல் செல்லலாம்.

நெடுஞ்சாலைகள் நன்றாக இருப்பதால், இங்கு
நெடுந்தூரம் செல்வோருக்குக் குறைவில்லை!

பத்து மைல் சென்று சென்னையில் சந்திக்காத
பந்துக்களை, அமெரிக்காவிலே சந்திப்பதற்குப்

பல மைல்கள் கடந்து வந்து சேருவார்கள்! தமது
பல வேலைகளுக்கு இடையே, சமாளிப்பார்கள்!

பயண ஆசையால் வருகின்றாரோ, என்ற ஐயம்
பயணம் வருவோரைப் பார்த்தாலே தோன்றும்.

சென்னை இல்லத்தில் விருந்துக்கு அழைத்தால்,
'என்னை இழுக்காதே, இருபது மைல்கள்', என்று

மறுக்கும் அண்ணா, அமெரிக்கா வந்த பின்னர்,
இருக்கும் இடத்திலிருந்து, முன்னூறு மைல்கள்

அலுக்காமல் வந்து ஒரே நாளிலே திரும்பியது,
அலுங்காமல் செய்யும் இவ்வூர் பயணத்தாலே!

வெள்ளியன்று எட்டு மணி நேரம் ஆன பயணம்,
ஞாயிறன்று ஆறு மணி நேரத்திலே முடிந்தது!

தன் வயதைப் பாராட்டாது வந்துவிட்டார் அவர்;
தன் தம்பியைக் கண்டு சந்தோஷித்தார், அவர்!

'Home depot' வுக்குச் சென்றோம். A to Z என அங்கு,
நாம் வேண்டும் எல்லாப் பொருட்களும் உண்டு!

கடல் போல அது பரந்து கிடப்பதைக் கண்டதும்,
'தேடல்' எதுவாயினும் கிடைப்பதை அறிந்தேன்!

பெரிய washing machine, A C, Fridge, Heater எனப் பல
பெரிய பொருட்கள் ஒருபுறம் நிறைந்து இருக்க,

குட்டி ஊசி ஆணி முதல் பல்வேறு பொருட்கள்
கெட்டிப் Packing - ல் ஒருபுறம் கொட்டிக் கிடக்க,

தோட்டத்தில் வைக்கப் பூச் செடிகள் ஒரு புறம்;
தோட்ட வேலைக்கு உபகரணங்கள் மறு புறம்!

உரப் பைகள் அதன் அருகில் இருக்க, பல்வேறு
நிறப் பூத் தொட்டிகளும், விற்பனைக்கு இருக்க,

சுத்தம் செய்யும் திரவ பாட்டில்கள் பல இருக்க,
நித்தம் வேண்டிய கருவிகள் பலவும் கிடைக்க,

தரை மாற்ற வேண்டிய பலவகை Tiles, வீட்டுக்
கூரை அடியிலே இடும் Insulation என்பது வரை,

எது வேண்டுமோ அது கிடைக்கும் ஒரு கடை;
மெதுவாகச் சுற்றி வருவதே, ஒரு நீண்ட நடை!

எங்கள் பயணத்தின் முன், மாமரக் கிளைகளை,
எங்கள் வீட்டில் வெட்டிய அனுபவம் கேட்டதால்,

நீண்ட கைப்பிடியுள்ள கிளைகள் வெட்டும் கருவி,
நீண்ட செடிகளை வெட்ட, சின்ன வெட்டும் கருவி,

இரண்டையும் எனக்கு வேண்டி மகன் வாங்கிவர,
திரண்டு வந்தது மகிழ்ச்சி, அவன் கரிசனையால்!

குறிப்பு:
கரிசனம் என்று நாம் உபயோகிக்கும் சொல்,
கரிசனை என்று சொல்ல வேண்டியதாம்!

as a fairly frequent visitor to the local home depot, i should confess, dear raji, i never thought of that shop in such poetical terms.

i guess there is a beauty and order in everything, if we open our eyes and see it.

மரங்களில் அதிகாலையிலே பட்சிகள் பாடும்!

இனிய கானம் கேட்கவே, மின்விசிறி வேகத்தை,
தணிய வைத்துவிடுவேன் நள்ளிரவில், நான்.

குருவிகள் பற்றி ஒரு செய்தி உண்டு! அவை
அருகில் இருந்தாலே, அந்த இடம் சுத்தமாம்.

காக்கை, அசுத்தம் நீக்கிடும் பறவை அல்லவா?
காக்கைகள் உள்ள இடம், சுத்தம் இல்லையாம்!

சென்னையில் காக்கைகள் கூட்டமே இருக்கும்;
திண்ணைப் பள்ளிக்கூடம், மாலை அமைக்கும்!

குருவிகள் கண்களில் படுவது அதிசயமே அங்கு;
குருவிகள் பல கூட்டமாக இருக்கின்றன, இங்கு!

காக்கை சில வேளைகளிலே காணலாம்; ஒரு
காக்கை, தன் பொன் குஞ்சுக்கு இரை தருவதை

என் காமராவில் ஒரு நாள் சிறைப் பிடித்தேன்!
தன் உருவை மிஞ்சிய அளவில், பஞ்சு போன்ற

ஒன்றை அலகில் குத்திக் கொடுத்தது; என்ன-

எங்களை விடாது போல! வாசலில் ஒருநாள்,
எங்களை அழைப்பதுபோலக் குரல் கொடுத்து,

நடை பயின்றது, ஒரு நெட்டை வாத்து; பின்னர்
நடை பாதையைத் தாண்டி, எதிர் வீட்டில் உள்ள

புல்வெளியில் நடக்க, அதைப் படம் பிடித்தேன்;

குழம்பாக அது எதிர்வீட்டில் மாறி இருக்குமோ?
